Cavs interested in Aldridge

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
saw the title of this thread and immediately thought "this better not be from that absolutely stupid article by wojo, where he just randomly threw out the thought about aldridge"......

sigh

yeesh, I like LA but i'm so excited about what Thompson could become.

While I would still be open to trading a package built around Tristan for Aldridge because Aldridge is such a good fit, we have to keep in mind that Tristan was putting up a ~18 PER after he broke out last season, and Aldridge put up a 20.5 PER last season. It's a significant difference for sure, but it's also likely to shrink further if anything in the next few years.

Isn't this the same Aldridge who had hip surgury this last offseason and to me frankly wasn't the same guy this year? I love the guy...always have but i don't know if i'd pull the trigger when they ask for Tristan.

Risk versus reward. I think the risk with his injury history doesn't equal the reward.

He gets out rebounded by Byrd Shyt.

Here's what I'd be willing to give up:

Tristan, 2013 Lakers pick #19, future Grizzlies pick AND Kings pick. I almost feel like that's too much, but who knows what will come of the Grizz and Kings pick. I also don't place too much value on the 2013 Lakers pick, as that will merely be a role player.

I would not be willing to give up: Varejao and Thompson, or any future Cavs pick. It is essential to keep the Cavs own draft picks in case anything miserable happens. Varejao and Thompson both getting dealt leaves the frontcourt too depleted.

Don't poke the Drummond fans!! :chuckles:

I wanted Drummond as much as the next guy after MKG was off the board.. but I'm not letting my personal preference from 11 months ago cloud my vision. Dion has stud written all over him and Wojo is ignoring that.

Not saying it's going to happen but Windy mentioned on KNR today that Aldridge and Kevin Love are some of the guys that Cavs could try and trade for.

If Minny would listen to a trade for Love, why would we go after Aldridge. Aldridge is so overrated and we'd have to give up a ton to get him. All he can do is shoot. Yeah, it's difficult to stop him, but he doesn't play defense or rebound. If we gave up TT alone for him I'd be disappointed.

What are you talking about? Drummond was better than Dion and is 19 years old. Even the biggest Dion fans should be able to admit that if the draft was held again Drummond would be the clear number 2 pick.

I really do get the sense that the Cavs are going to make their move this year. I think the pressure is on Grant to start winning and we certainly have the assets to make a big trade. I think adding an all star type talent who is respected around the league is a good place to start. It provides energy to the team and we need veteran leader to push Kyrie, Dion, Tristan etc to take the next level.

Except you're probably going to have to give up either Dion or Tristan to get that kind of player.

Yea, ok. Woj just threw a name out into the darkness in that article. It doesn't mean much. Also, the Blazers are basically where we're at. Trying to go from rebuild to playoffs next season. They believe that LMA is a franchise player who they can build around. They aren't trading him, at least not this season. I happen to disagree with them. I don't think LMA is a franchise player, but that's me. They do.

That is a lot of talent to give up for someone that will be an unrestricted free agent in two seasons. He would have to extend as part of the trade, and I'm not so sure I would even do that. Tristan is a very good young player.

Trust me, as someone that places a premium on collection and acquisition of draft picks and assets, I didn't present this easily.

The Cavs have a lot of young talent and at some point, they HAVE to cash out some of these assets and reel in a big fish. I think Aldridge would be a tremendous fit here. I hate to give up Tristan, but he's the second best young player we have (other than Kyrie).

The other part of this trade is that Tristan is going to need extended the same year as Kyrie. I don't see us being able to afford Kyrie, Tristan, Dion, and our high pick this year. It's not feasible. Kyrie is going to get max money. Tristan will command big money too because bigs usually get more money because of their size premium. One, if not two, of those four guys (KI, TT, DW, and this year's pick) will be gone due to the CBA.

I'd rather cash out while TT has high value and go after a big fish. I want to push hard for the playoffs this year.

They'd trade him for TT and 1st round picks. We might have to throw Andy in there to since the want a vet at C
