Cavs Interested in Kosta Koufos

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Maybe I'm out of the loop but I have never though of Koufos as a defensive center. Why is he being thought of as a defensive center now? He certainly does not seem like a shot blocker, or rim protector, which is what we need. He is averaging nearly a block in only 14 minutes, which is not bad at all, but I'm not sold. I like his youth, and he could get better playing alongside the big 3. That's a positive. How is his mid range jumper?

I know Dion has really been struggling but I am not yet sold on the idea of trading him for Koufos. Someone sell me on this.

I suppose he's a true 5 with the ability to guard the restricted area. He's not a weak side rim protector but in modern NBA defense he alters shots and takes up space

I found this highlights video of his for the 2013-2014 season:

Some nice stuff there: He is pretty ;) quick for a 7 footer, I especially liked the quick spin he did at 2:28 vs Kenneth Faried. He runs quick the court from side to side.
This is really a small sample size video and I haven't seen him playing but I don't see any mid range shots there, but I guess those are not "highlight" material...

It's pretty telling of Waiters' value around the league if the Nuggets wouldn't trade Mozgov for him despite their overwhelming depth at C.

you could say the same about their PG and SG situation, they have a pretty deep team and don't really need Dion. the Nuggets are one of those teams that has tons of role players but no stars and Dion won't solve that problem.

i like Koufos but it's really hard to come to grips with the fact that that's all they can get for Dion especially given Koufos' contract situation (him being an unrestricted FA after the season should lower his value imo)

He's a Buckeye- always a plus. If I recall he can shoot a bit so spacing would be aided.

He also would start here, Andy is better suited coming off the bench, and is a better long term prospect than TT (IMO). He's only 25 so would be with this team for quite some time.

Would be a good trade for this team.

Cavs need a presence in the middle.
Dion is inconsistant which has little value to the Cavs..they need a consistant 2guard and a defensive presence.

Just don't see a reason for Memphis to give him up when they're contending out West thus far and losing him would leave them barren behind Gasol at the center position.

I will say, if the Gasol goes down for them for any significant length of time, that Koufos will not be salvaging anything. That said, Memphis would have to like Waiters to make the deal. I don't know if they do or not. They are, in all likelihood, losing Koufos for nothing this offseason, but that also mean we would probably lose him too unless we overpay him. That means we are essentially losing Waiters for nothing. I'm underwhelmed by it and Memphis playing great could demand more than what he is worth.

The only way I want Koufos from the Grizzlies is if Pondexter is coming with him.

I'd rather have Tyler Zeller than Koufos. Trading for a guy like Koufos is a lateral move.

Would be great. My guess is though; we end making a move for a lengthy 3d wing.

I'm down with it as long as he shaves his head and let's us call him Z
