His ESPN profile picture is like something out of a horror movie...

Presumably, he'd come here and be our 4th big man behind Andy, Love, and TT. Is that really something in which he'd be interested long-term, or would he just leave after the season in the hope of getting a starting (or at least 3d big) role?

I think you would likely see him starting with andy and tt coming off the bench.

I like Koufos, and think he would be a good fit in our starting lineup, but I would be hard pressed to trade Waiters for him straight up. Feels like a third team would need to get involved, possibly sending a backup center to Memphis, while taking on Waiters.

If we got Prince or Pontdexter with him I make that deal 10 times out of 10.

Marion is 36, we're playing him like he's 26. Just make it two guys' job and distribute those minutes between the two of them. Tayshaun can do what this team needs, and that's play smart defense, communicate on D and fill the lane.

If we keep running Shawn like this, he'll be worthless in the playoffs, I think he's got just enough in the tank to make a difference in a series, but we've got to cut his role down a little bit.

If Kosta is as good as advertised, and we get that second defender, shit; let's do whatever if it gets us to the finals.

Can we toss their draft pick back to them if Tony Allen is included? Or we keep their draft pick, get Kosta as the C for the foreseeable future and actually use the Memphis pick to draft a solid 7 footer.

Either way, it seems Memphis might make sense as a trading partner.
no he can't. prince is seriously not good at all (and has negative value anyway because of his contract).

and no, memphis is definitely not including tony allen lol

It's pretty telling of Waiters' value around the league if the Nuggets wouldn't trade Mozgov for him despite their overwhelming depth at C.
not really. i mean, i agree that waiters' value around the league is not particularly high and certainly not as high as a lot here assume. but mozgov has a ton of value and denver isn't really hard pressed to get rid of him asap. mcgee isn't that good - especially at $12M/yr - plus he expires next season and is very unreliable. nurkic is a rookie with essentially zero experience. it's certainly believable they prefer to keep mozgov long-term, and if not, he should net more than dion waiters.

I've seen some proposals that have us sending out the Memphis pick as well and have Dalembert going to Memphis and we get Shumpert

There's a few other pieces but that's the main gist of it.

Do it. TPE/Dion for Koufos and Prince. That would probably be the only move we need to be a true contender.

I know people aren't high on Prince, but he may have to come to get a deal done. If he can still play some defense and gobble minutes, I'm ok with it. But I don't know how long his contract runs. We don't need him for any real length of time.

As others have mentioned in the thread, my only concern is who does Memphis have to back up Gasol? If they can find someone, then I think there is a good chance this deal gets done. But if not, then it probably won't get done.

shump and koufos would be insane for our team, too perfect

I met the guy at ohio state, he was a total prick. That said he seems like a solid add and gives us some defensive presence at the rim.

You guys are funny. This is Kosta freakin Koufos ya'll are talking about right? The guy would be our 4th best big and we want to give Dion up for him?

I can't stand Dion. Absolutely hate his game. But even I wouldn't do that. Koufos is a decent backup Center. He is not the defensive presence we need at C.

The guy I want from Memphis is Courtney Lee... but that's obviously not going to happen.

So this proposed deal would look something like...? (Sorry in advance for posting a fake trade in this forum, but we are discussing this scenario here.)

Cavs out: Waiters, Memphis pick
Cavs in: Shumpert, Koufos

Knicks out: Dalembert, Shumpert
Knicks in: Memphis pick (via CLE), Prince

Memphis out: Koufos, Prince
Memphis in: Waiters, Dalembert

Trade machine says this deal works and you don't even need to use the TPE. Maybe you could structure it differently so that the Cavs use the TPE (to absorb Shump) and the Knicks pick up a trade exception, but I don't know how you do that and still allow Memphis to jettison Prince.

All depends on whether Memphis wants to take a chance on Waiters. Seems unlikely for a team in their position to do that, but maybe they prefer to switch Dalembert out for Koufos and Waiters is just a bonus? Or maybe a 4th team could be found for Waiters? Sending out Prince would keep Memphis out of the tax, and I think this is a key for a small market team like Memphis which has made financially driven decisions in the past.

I'm thinking Memphis may need to include some minor asset like the Toronto second round pick in 2016 or something.

New York fans will complain about this deal, but they have to face reality, and part of that reality is that, as we saw with Philadelphia last year, you can't expect to get a decent pick for players like Shump (who will be an RFA) or Dalembert (who is expiring). The Memphis pick is a decent asset, though it won't convey this year. This deal also clears Shump from the Knicks cap next year so they can overpay another free agent or two (I realize they could just renounce him, but this way at least they get something for him).

Are Shump and Koufos the ideal fits for Cleveland? Maybe not ideal, but if the Cavs could pull this deal off, I'd be thrilled.

A tiny prick to accompany that large body and tiny head? This guy's more awkward looking than I thought.
