Cavs Media Day (Friday, Sep. 26)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Isn't McDermott a wing player?
I think some teams regarded him as a SF, some as a stretch 4. If the Bulls want to give him minutes down the stretch playing SF against us defensively, we should welcome that with open arms.

And that's sort of my main point, in crunch time, it starts to boil down more to your starting five or your five best players. All that PF depth isn't going to help the Bulls in the final 6 minutes against the Cavs as only one guy can play at a time. I've even heard they could play Gibson at three in crunch time, but with Rose, Gibson, Gasol, and Noah on the floor at the same time, you'd literally have only one guy capable of hitting above 33% from beyond the arc in Butler.

I don't mean to downplay their excellent team(provided Rose stays healthy), but if the Cavs don't win a championship this year, i think its a WC team that beats us in the Finals, not the Bulls stopping us from getting there.

Even a healthy Bulls team seems vastly overrated to me. Derrick Rose to me, has always been a borderline chucker, that dribbles the ball too much, and doesn't really make anyone around him better. Pau Gasol isn't an all-star caliber player anymore.

I don't even like them as the second seed team necessarily. I think a lot of people will be surprised how good Washington will be. I don't seriously think they'll challenge us, but I wouldn't discount them from being the second best team.

The Bulls really haven't warrant all this notion of being a serious contender.

I wouldn't discount them from being the second best team, but for anyone to seriously think they'll win it all is crazy.

If we are healthy, they're not beating us. Not to sound like a homer thinking no team can challenge us, I just don't see them being one of those teams.

All our competition is in the West.

After finally getting the time to watch the full Media Day stream from beginning to end, you know who I've decided the true MVP of the day was? Fred McLeod.
His sit downs with the players were way better, insightful, and more in-depth than the actual "press conference" interviews. You can also tell Fred is just genuinely excited to talk to these guys.

Fred, is that you? You understand the difference between a press conference and I staged interview by an employee of the Cavs, right? Your comparison is elementary.

Fred, is that you?

Everything on media day is press stuff by definition, but McLeod did well to get players to open up and enjoy themselves in a 1-on-1 setting. In other words, he did his job. He's so much better in that format than he is when he serves as MC at other events.

I was really impressed by Blatt at the press conference, especially the anecdotes where he took the opportunity to complement his veterans for buying in to the program already.

Blatt's part was nice to hear. I love hearing a competent coach. Its crazy to think that he maybe the best coach weve had in a while and he hasn't even coached an nBA game

I'm happy Isaiah Thomas picked the Bulls and thinks they can win it all.
His career as a GM has shown he is a poor judge of NBA talent.

Rose still rusty, Gasol on the wrong side of 30, McBuckets and Mirotic are unproven.
They can't play Gibson, Noah, and Gasol all at once.
And has Thibs learned that you don't play your starters enough minutes to run them into the ground like he did Deng yet?

The Bulls will be good but I'm blown away by all of the media love for them as the favorite in the East this year.

And Griffin may not be done yet or its likely he makes a move before the trade deadline if we need to shore up C or another position for some reason.

Isaiah Thomas might be right about the Bulls. It's not a totally ridiculous prediction.

But he is also a total and complete moron. Probably one of the dumbest people in broadcasting. Nothing he says should be given any weight.

Yep it was perfect... except for the times it wasn't working. ;)

The Heat media day reminds me of the Cavs' before LeBron came back. Less crowded and overly optimistic.

The Bulls talk of them being the best team in the East by media means nothing. I honestly don't get it Derrick Rose hasn't played a significant game with their new core. They remaining core is Noah, Butler and Gibson as pieces who have playoff experience with each other so this whole they know how to win together and play together stuff is overrated. I honestly think they are looking at the coaching staff being in place for multiple years as the advantage for the Bulls while Blatt remains unknown to them. I do know and notice that Thibs seems to run his players into the ground and they have little to nothing left come playoff time they honestly reach their potential in regular season because they play hard defense and teams don't usually put that much into scouting into the playoffs.

I sit back and think in my life how important certain factors were for time and place.

I couldn't help but think of Mike Brown today during all of this madness. It's amazing what the right place and right time can do for a person. I was one of the people that thought bringing MB back was a great idea. Now that I reflect on his Lakers and 2nd cavs run I've started to think that he was nothing more than a glorified hard worker in the right place at the right time during the first LBJ era.

Match point is a great movie. It is amazing how much in life can be utterly dependent on luck. I have no doubt MB has a good basketball mind, but he has none of the people skills or intangibles needed for a head coach. The fact that he was able to go so far with Lebron leaves me incredibly hopeful for a guy like Blatt who in terms of "getting things" is the complete opposite.

That would involve a healthy Bulls team. More specifically, a healthy Rose.

That shit ain't never happening again.

Why don't you think Rose will stay healthy though? His past injuries weren't connected in any way if I'm remembering correctly and before he initially tore his ACL he was a pretty durable player.

Apart from Derrick Rose I don't think the Bulls have any other injury prone players. If healthy, specifically talking about D Rose, I see that team as being elite and I have no reason to assume that Rose will get hurt again.

He has to be healthy before he can stay healthy.
