Cavs sign Kevin Jones

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If you haven't gone to a Charge game its a real blast. Not a bad seat in the house and you get a great show for a quarter ...

Where do I sign up? :)

or is that for only 12 minutes...... ;)

I was at the game too last night. It really is a good time.

I'm not going to get over-technical or anything, but I like having Jones on the floor, rather than Walton/Leuer/etc. He seems like he's working on defense, he doesn't over-dribble, he has shown a nice 15-footer at times. He needs to get stronger, keep working, and hopefully offer a little more threat on the offensive side of the floor. Just grow, basically.

Walton is a lot more experienced and has a far better basketball IQ but I'd rather see more of Jones learning on the floor. I'd like to know if he might make it all the way to next year's roster or if he's just filler.

It seems clear to me that he'll be here next year, if not part of a trade. Cavs are patient with young guys as we've seen over the years, they really give them a chance. I've seen plenty of Manny Harris, Donald Sloan, Alonzo Gee, and I still can't believe Samardo was hesitating on shots after all his years here.

Under Grant, I'd say if there's a guy you want to see more of you likely will, until either he pans out or until you want to see less of him.

Things were kind of opposite under Brown/Ferry.

That has less to do with the front office thinking, and more to do with during the Ferry years we were perennial championship contenders, and under Grant we are not. There's no time for patience and waiting for young players to develop when you're in "WIN NOW" mode.

Looking back though, perhaps the WIN NOW mentality created the monster we had on our hands back then. Easier to say now but it was always the truth, we needed to figure out a way to add young talent back then and meld it and we couldn't.

Regardless, i like what i've seen out of Kevin because he seems like a man made role player. He plays within himself, can rebound and is a solid defender. I hope Scott continues to give him some floor time. I could see him making that jumper more often as he settles in.

Kevin Jones, Cavaliers

In the past week, Jones appeared in three consecutive games, a first for him this season. He made the most of his opportunities with some key plays late in the Cavs' game against Houston. I have studied Jones numerous times, sometimes in person, and found him to be a terrific and charismatic teammate. Perhaps that will inspire his Cavs teammates to help him play his best basketball when he gets minutes, so that he can become a permanent rotation guy.

I still feel he hasn't gotten much of a chance to show his game. Most impressed by his defense so far. I was worried he would not be able to hang, but he can stay with his man. I haven't seen him in the post at all except for put backs.

He definitely knows how to play the game. Good body language. Not explosive at all, which is fine, but he does need to get a little quicker/stronger in order to be a really good defender. Could be great for a 4th big man.
