Cavs sign PG Ben Uzoh to 10 day contract

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What's with guys like this not going in the 2nd round? Is everyone stashing players over seas? Seems like a lot of undrafted talent is making its way into the league these days. I feel like I hear more about undrafted guys than 2nd round guys. Doesn't appear that many 2nd round euro's ever make the NBA. I am sure I am biased since we have so many undrafted guys on the Cavs.

Uzoh appears very strong. His length is very nice too. Can't wait to see him.

I hope we see some action from him tonight! Go Cavs!!!

Z's first scouting move is to bring in a guy with Z in his name. Impressive find.

My guess is he won't see the court.

No. 2: BEN UZOH
Guard, Rio Grande Valley (Tulsa)

10 for 10: Physical specimen; can defend nearly anyone; proved himself last year.

When Uzoh joined the Nets as an undrafted free agent in 2010-11, he spent the season proving that he can run with anybody in the NBA. That doesn’t mean score, mind you – but it does mean most everything else, especially defense. He’s been all over the court for the Vipers this year, filling up the box score in points, rebounds, assists and steals, and although he’s not a great shooter, he’s absolutely perfect in terms of a prospect. Count on him to come up and keep up with all but the very best point guards across the league.

Its all about the D .

Ben is a talented offensive player, who has a very, very, VERY (did I stress this enough?) high up-side. One thing that I saw someone post, was that he was a good ball-handler - well, if you mean he can dribble the ball, then you're right. If you mean he is a good creator, etc., then you are mistaken. Ben isn't even a point-guard really. He has played the position, but at-most he is a combo guard... Think Gibson, with much better defensive capabilities, higher BB IQ, but not quite as good of a 3-pt shooter - Oh-yeah, and he is about 500X more athletic than Daniel Gibson. Actually, if you want to compare his athletic ability to someone, then think (forgive me for this) LeBron James. Ben has about 50X more ability than Manny Harris (who I like, but don't see as anything more than a end-of-the-bench guy), and with a coach like Byron, he may have a real shot!!! Ben Uzoh may end up being the steal of this generation if he can wrap himself around coach Scott's philosophy, and show enough progress in the time he is given to warrant keeping him longer.

I *think* the Cavaliers' thinking here is that if Ben can do what he needs to during this 10-day, then the Cavaliers will have a guy that could possibly be a perfect running mate for Kyrie (and I do mean "perfect") down the line, and allow them to feel more comfortable about moving Ramon sooner, rather than later.

I love assessments like this that are clearly based on facts.

I like this kid and it is nice to know that he has some NBA experience. Great athletic ability, length and a strong NBA body. Point guard skills are raw but so were Russell Westbrook's. If he can impress, it will make it easier to trade Ramon Sessions...especially since Ramon is showcasing himself very well lately. Nice move.

I can't believe there's 9 pages on Ben Uzoh.:shakehead

^Yeah, I have it set to 10 per page so the mouse wheel scrolls thru a thread the fastest.

Which is useful for threads exactly like this.

Anyone else think for a moment that we signed Beno Udrih?

Hey, if the Cavs' brass can pluck Alonzo Gee out of obscurity, I'm willing to keep an open mind with this kid. And I'm not saying Gee is going to be a world beater, but the progress he has made from last year to this year cannot be overlooked.

Nonetheless, I have faith in our front office in obtaining talent and in our coaching staff for bringing quality out of said talent. Gotta give props to Chris Grant and Byron Scott. I really believe the two men can work well together as we move towards the future.

Agreed.
I love the approach of bringing in raw, athletic kids, like Eyenga, Gee, & now Uzoh, and trying to coach them up. It's paid dividends with Gee so far while Eyenga is a work in progress. Let's see what happens with Uzoh.
Gotta admit he looks straight NASTY in those videos.
While he's a shade over 6'2" Uzoh looks to have the length & athleticism to also play some SG.

I love how long he is, and it looked like he can handle the ball. That pass over the top to Hollins was great, and his vision seemed pretty good. I would not be upset if he was Ramon's replacement from what I have seen so far. Definitely long enough to guard the 2.

He measured in at 6'2.75" according to DraftExpress, so he should be listed as 6'4. His big wingspan and athleticism should help him play like a 6'6 guy though.

I liked what I saw tonight. Had some jitters and over-eagerness on defense, but that's expected. Probed the defense well. Handles the ball well. Two nice assists and a few nice offensive rebounds (followed his shot!). His court vision seemed adequate enough for a combo guard.
