Cavs Summer League (starts July 10)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I would rather have a guy like Prince as a vet min than Harris.

I'd be careful about just throwing away Joe Harris.

Summer League/Pre-Season isn't a good time to evaluate because you have a bunch of guys who have practiced about 3 times and who have a lot of individual goals. Guys are fighting to make teams, get noticed, etc.

Joe Harris is capable of being a good shooter. He had some good moments last year.

Just be careful about replacing a guy because of those kind of impressions. Playmaking in meaningless games etc.

We tried that at one time. Remember when Manny Harris had outplayed Danny Green in almost every part of the game ?

I'm not saying Joe Harris is Danny Green. But I am saying throwing away Harris after two Summer League games is not the best idea.

Can't believe the judgements people are making after two summer league games.

Summer league makes one on one players look good. Guys who need to operate in the flow of an offense or defense will look like crap. Remember how bad Delly looked last summer without legit players around him?

Christmas has shown he's not Anthony Davis. Great, but we already knew that, and we don't need him to be that anyway. We need him to be our 5th big. It would be tough to prove you can't be even that after two summer league games.

Isn't he 24 years old? He should be looking a lot better than he is. He should be the best player on the team.

Also, PPG and all the other stats won't show it, but Sir'Dom looks like our best player so far. Just looks like he belongs, especially on the defensive side of the ball, has surprised me with his ball-handling and how easy he can get to the hoop...still waiting to see him attempt an outside shot, though.

Haven't read any of this thread, but I just wanted to say that I don't believe Joe Harris deserves to be on our roster this season. For a guy who has played and practiced with an NBA roster he really has trouble asserting himself and is having trouble literally doing anything noteworthy in both games so far.

I only saw part of the first game, but looking at th box scores I was surprised by his lack of production. I know he's a guy that is best used when someone else is creating for him, but he put up good numbers in Canton last year being the primary scoring option.

Neither. We aren't carrying 4 PGs on our team next year, so let's just let it die that either of these guys have a chance to make the 15 man.

They signed Sykes to a partially guarenteed contract so he has a chance to make the team.
Also, Delly is not a pg imo, so yes, another PG is fine.

Unfortunately the outside shot is his worst attribute according to the draft reports. He'll have to work a lot on it.

Partially guaranteed deals on an undrafted rookie wage mean jack shit. Do you really think they are hard to get rid of? He probably got ~50K in guaranteed money. It's table scraps compared to a real contract. He's not making the team. Move on. What he is doing is auditioning for the other 29 teams, though, but the Mo Williams signing killed any chance he had at making the Cavs.

Christmas looked way better than yesterday, but still nothing to write home about.
His D was much much better, but still he found himself lost many times, and offensively he has nothing, I'm sorry.

Sykes played well and I wish we'd see more of him.

Xmas seems to have a nice ft stroke and he knocked down an 18 footer yesterday. Showed some nice athleticism which should help in him do work in the picknroll as well as in transition.

Only question is can he hit the midrange enough to play PF offensively, and is he quick enough to guard PFs. I'd like to see him guard some face-up guys. Tristan and Moz are our longterm options at C so I'm looking for him to maybe possibly replace Andy eventually as backup PF.

The partial guarantee is given for two reasons.
1. to get the player to come to you summer league team vs. another teams
2. to get the player to commit to signing with your D-League team vs. other D-League teams.

So obviously, it does indicate the Cavs have some interest in Sykes, but it's not a sign that he will make the 15 man roster at all.

I felt the same, mostly because I also know we won't take the time to develop him either. I probably wouldn't just cut him. I'd at least try to trade him or include him in a trade.

Joe Harris is a scrub, I can't deny that. For a guy that sat and watched a championship calibur team perform and put in the work, he didn't get the memo. Hell, he's lucky to be in the league.

He looks so awful on a basketball floor, for being decent in college but damn does he suck in a Summer league full of men trying their ass off.

He had one moment for me and that was when his 3 rattled in that game we made 11 straight 3s or something.

You already hitched yourself to the "he sucks" bandwagon. I guess there is no going back for you.

I don't know why I let it get to me every year. It's always the same. People just can't wait to rush to judgment about players based on Summer League play. It's always stupid but it will never stop.

You like to keep the hope alive on below average players. He doesn't have it, count him out. We're going into year two trying to upgrade his position, he's not even in the Cavs plans, but carry on.
