Cleveland Browns New Head Coach Search, 2014

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Whatever the excuse, Gase did get crushed in the game where he had the most prep time. Ya, he's definitely well liked and seems to have a nice path into being a head coach.

Is he an Alpha, though? I don't think so; Alphas would sell themselves in a job interview.

The Seahawks also cracked Manning's hand signals code.

So there's that.

I won't let that get in the way of basing his future prowess as a head coach off one game though. Getting shut down in a Super Bowl is only more important because that's what people want to believe. The offense was ineffective and made mistakes, it happens.

Gase is still a top notch coordinator and a future head coach who has earned the respect of everyone at every stop along the way.

It's true Peyton choked, and was throwing flutter balls, some in which I probably could have picked off. That's not on all on Gase at all, but they still have the best offense ever, and they couldn't make any adjustments to counter a little bit? Seahawks defense is great obviously, but if Gase was ready to win a lot of top jobs, it might have taken a back seat after that. I never wanted him so I don't care either way.

You got two weeks to prepare for the biggest game ever, and they displayed the shittiest display of offense ever in a SB, with the greatest offense of all-time. So Peyton's hand signals and audibles were the secret? If that's the case (not disagreeing by the way), then what hell did he do so great to justify having a coaching job?

Romeo was well liked and respected across the board before he got the job, and we know how that went. Maybe he's not a bad offensive coordinator, but he sure as hell couldn't get his team prepared for the biggest game of the year.

I'm absolutely terrified that you're serious.

:chuckles:

I'm far over the Gase balking. Never interviewed, never was really in contention. If they wanted to interview him that bad, they would have taken their chances and waited. Clearly, they weren't trying to wait any longer/let everything pass them by.

My snark simply sources from your insistence that you have a fullproof one of these invented:

They were taking their chances and waiting, until Gase told them no.

Or are we still not believing that because it was only confirmed by the media?

Nah, fuck him. Going to keep making fun of him. He got his shit wrecked.

People make fun of Cleveland non-stop... even when it's a stretch to do so. So, Gase is a turd sandwich.

Always grinds my gears too, especially when it's obvious the front office has shown all the signs of building a winner and having a direction we as fans can be confident in.

You took that out of context. I said even when it is a stretch to do so. People will take even the smallest of things and try and embarrass Cleveland sports. Like if a light when out at Progressive Field, SportsNation or some shit would tweet, "LOL! TYPICAL CLEVELAND!" So therefore I am going to laugh at this guy regardless of logical thinking.

Curious as to how the front office was so tight-lipped about dropping an atomic bomb that was the Trent Richardson trade - to the point that we still don't know who executed it - but somehow allowed so much legitimate/verified information to leak to the media regarding the coaching search? :eek:mg:

Well, color me shocked. Reports weren't accurate?

Who reported that he gave them an ultimatum?

Who reported that he gave them an ultimatum?

Looking back for it. Can't find it.

I do recall, though, that Marrone was pissed at how long it was taking and Pettine supposedly told the Browns he needed to know sooner rather than later. I must be imagining it, but I could've sworn that I saw something about how the Browns "hired Pettine because they didn't want another candidate to pull out".

Could be wrong, but I really don't feel like going back and finding it.

There was a tweet some people found amusing that the Bulls were demanding we pick a head coach. Pyro posted a comment that he would find it funny if Pettine did that. I thought I recalled something along those lines too though but can't remember where it was.

They hired Pettine almost immediately after Gase dropped out.

The only thing remotely similar to an ultimatum was Pettine telling people during his press conference that the wait caused him to "Almost get to that point."

But nothing was ever remotely reported about Pettine giving them a deadline.

Essentially, the Browns got at LEAST their third choice for this position. Whether that's a good thing or not remains to be seen, but you trying to spin the process as anything other than a clusterfuck has been pretty bad thus far.

It was a clusterfuck, we'll see if it works out though.
