Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
GM Ray Farmer: Browns could make trade for QB during the draft

With the Browns destined to find a starting quarterback, general manager Ray Farmer told reporters on Thursday that he's done a cost-benefit analysis on trading up for a quarterback, reports the Plain Dealer. The Browns have the No. 12 overall pick in this year's draft.

"Coach (Mike) Pettine has articulated that he wants a starter, so we have to find him a starter," Farmer said.

Farmer was noncommittal when asked whether he believed Johnny Manziel could be the No. 1 come next season. Farmer has spoken to Manziel twice by phone since Manziel checked into rehab.

Farmer wouldn't reveal if he has met with Brian Hoyer's representatives, as well. Hoyer beat out Manziel as the starter last season, but lost his job late in the year. He is expected to become free agent in March.

"Just because a player didn't succeed in one place doesn't mean he won't succeed in another," Farmer said, when asked of the free agency pool.

Insider Buzz: Browns Will 'Take a Real Run' at Trading for Rams QB Sam Bradford

The Cleveland Browns may look for a new quarterback this offseason as that situation is still unclear moving forward.

Will the Browns try to trade for St. Louis Rams signal-caller Sam Bradford? Who else could the Browns consider?

Watch as Stephen Nelson and Bleacher Report NFL Insider Jason Colediscuss Bradford's future in the video above.

That's CLE opening up the doors for Bradford.

That is me confused as shit and just running away from the Browns.

I can maybe see our second and a conditional pick in '16, but would they actually give up 19 for Mr. Glass?

Edit: The closest comparison I can think of is Alex Smith. The Chiefs gave up a 2013 2nd rounder and a conditional pick that turned into a 2nd rounder in 2014 for him. The argument can be made that Bradford has more upside than Smith, but Smith didn't have the injury concerns.

16.5 million dollar investment for 2015, and the only two seasons he was healthy he seemed average for a starter. I'd hope reworking his contract is part of the trade.

FUUUUUUUCK him. He is better than any QB option BUT that is me not factoring he is made of a combo of glass and sticks.

Jameis just said he's winning the Super Bowl next year. We should trade the rest of our draft for him. Somebody text Farmer.

I'd listen to trading for Sam Bradford.

Tony Grossi said it'd involve the 19th pick though? Not with that whale of a contract...

Chris Carter reached out to Manziel and he listed.. my source is Chris Carter. He said as much on the Mike and Mike show.
It sounds as if Manziel is really committed to addressing his issues and the Browns . If Manziel has finished rehab and is ready to play. Then you go with Manziel regardless of who they trade for or sign at QB.

otherwise just trade him and be done with it

His rehab means nothing to me considering his issues extend far beyond lack of preparation and immaturity.

Bradford will be 28 this season. 49 games played in 5 seasons. 2 acl tears. Huge contract number, but he is tradeable now, unlike in previous years. He's 16.5mil on the Rams cap right now. Cutting or trading him would result in the Rams having roughly 3.5mil in dead cap space. That would free up 13mil in cap space for them in total. If he were traded, the team he would be traded to would bring on that 1yr 13mil deal, or rework the contract as a part of the trade. Not sure exactly why a 1st rd pick would be discussed. 28, injury-prone, and a lot of money on a 1yr deal. Plus, the Rams clear a lot of cap space. Maybe some kind of pick swap. A mid-first would make no sense at all for the Browns.

I would offer them a 3rd that could turn into a 2nd for Bradford. The 19 pick is too much for a possible 1 year rental.

Grossi is a clown. Bradford has played in 7 of 32 games the last 2 years, is coming off a torn ACL that he's now torn twice, has been pretty mediocre when he's played and is set to make $13M while being able to bolt after the season. Whoever gives up a mid-1st rounder for that should be fired on the spot.

I'd be willing to deal for him simply because he's better than the other garbage out there in FA at QB but I'd wince if we dealt a 2nd for him let alone a 1st.

No he said he thinks it'd be for that and he said he'd do it

there's no way I'd do that for a guy with 2 ACL injuries in as many years on last year of his contract....plus he isn't worth the 13 million he's making
