Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's not like Rosen is a lock to be a FQB either though. You can make a very strong case that he isn't.

You can make a very strong case that he isn’t the type of human being you want to hitch your franchise to in general.

Every QB coming out of college since Luck has had some kinds of flaws that people pointed out as potential problems. If you play that game too much you'll never draft a QB, always passing and waiting for Mr. Perfect. So it comes down to identifying what you're looking for in a QB, what warts you're willing to accept and try to correct, and which flaws are deal breakers.

IDK how serious or how well verified all the stuff is about Rosen. He is easily the college prospect that meets the standard eye test for what an NFL QB should be, very similar to Goff IMO. The personality issues need to be evaluated by Dorsey and see if those are legit deal breakers. I can assure you that is something nobody posting here is informed enough to know for sure one way or the other. All reports are potential pre-draft smoke and mirrors to get teams to pass so another team can get their QB. Dorsey should be well equipped to figure it out so I'll wait and see what he chooses.

How does he meet the standard eye test after having shoulder surgery and two concussions this year? Do those things not matter or??? Like I can tell you CB1 meets the eye test but fail to mention that he's had hip surgery and two concussions. Is he still your CB1? He shouldn't be when there are other guys available at the position who have the potential to be just as good if not better and don't come with those concerns. Please don't get hooked on what NFL people call the eye test. It's usually code for "Same ol Same ol"

The Browns' QB selection in the upcoming draft unfortunately is developing into a conundrum, with the top prospects not looking like a fit, due to mentality, durability, stature, or pass-first nature.

It's almost surreal, when you compare this group with Goff, Wentz, Watson, Trubisky. It's looking so 'Browns'.

I find myself hoping that Darnold balls out against OSU, declares for the draft, and comments that whatever team drafts me, I will do my best to win for that team and eventually win a SB.

This might present the only clear chance to draft a QB at No. 1. Other situations will likely result in a trade down or unlikely selection of another position at No. 1.

If Darnold doesn't declare, Dorsey's job is going to be harder than I'm sure it first appeared to him.

I find it interesting to see people not blaming Rosen for not wanting to be here but also trashing the FO for not trading for Jimmy G who along with NE did not want to trade him here. So Jimmy G, BB, Don Yee, and NE didn't wanna trade Jimmy G to Cleveland and our FO sucks but Josh Rosen doesn't want to get drafted by Cleveland and it's "Can you blame him" ????

I see you....

Also, a huge difference in that we'd own Rosen's rights for five years if we draft him. So even if he is unhappy, we'd have a lot of leverage over him.

Garrapolo could only be held by successive franchise designations, which would become unaffordable pretty quickly.

There was just as much question marks surrounding the Trubisky/Watson class. Shit, there still are. There was a shit ton of questions about Wentz as well. Don't come here with "that's so Browns" shit.

I disagree, and go where the fuck I want.

You must have a fleeting memory because this happens. every. year.

Wentz - Unproven, played at a tiny school, minimal starts, minimal experience as a quarterback in general
Watson - Extremely low throwing velocity, skinny/frail, injury prone
Trubisky - Laundry list of question marks

Off the field personality concerns are nothing new either... Jameis Winston, Cam Newton, Eli on draft night, Rivers being a bit of a hot head... Heck - even Mariota was considered too introverted.

TLDR: This isn't "so Browns." This is the evaluation process. It happens every year.

Don't come at him with facts, he'll just disagree and push the woe is us narrative

I am giving MY opinion of the QB classes, not that of the media analysts. For a variety of reasons, I do not see QB clear choices for the Browns at number one in this class (Rosen, Mayfield, Jackson, Allen), and hope that Darnold turns into that. I DID see a clear choice of Watson or Trubisky last year and advocated that position in the forum. Although I agreed with the trade down at the time, Goff and Wentz did arrive at as consensus No. 1 and No.2 choices after the 'evaluation process".

If you don't see a "so Browns" phenomenon after watching Wentz get to potential MVP level, Watson's performance prior to injury, drafting Manziel over Garrapollo, then I don't know what to tell you. Rookie and NEO native Trubisky executed a solid performance against the Browns that, IMO, if it has been seen in CLE this year, would have resulted in multiple Browns victories (lets start with zero turnovers).

"So Browns"?: shit is real. The number one need of the franchise is QB, they have had more first round draft choices over the past six years than any other team and still have not gotten the job done.

Let me break it down for you: the real point of my post is obvious: at this point in the evaluation process, Sam Darnold looks TO ME like the best, and perhaps only option at No. 1. That's my opinion right now and I am sticking to it--until and if I decide to change my mind based on the 'evaluation process'.

Just saw Darnold's comments in the other thread; just what I wanted to hear!

CommD was beating the Trubisky #1 drum incessantly for months warning everyone that he WILL be the pick at #1 and the Browns weren’t actually interested in Myles with that pick

Then just last week he said Watson was the best player in the entire draft and we fucked up not taking him at 1 even though he was on the board at 12

The heat of his QB takes are genuinely dangerous

CommD = Hue Jackson with a blonde wig on.

The only part I’m guessing about is the blonde wig.
