Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm still blown away that you think human beings who cheer for a team that's located in one state are somehow vastly different in intelligence or have more or less valid reactions than fans who cheer for teams that are located in other states.

All fans are stupid. Being a fan in itself is stupid.

With all that said, you'd have to be a complete moron to think Johnny should play a single second the rest of the year.

Can't wait til he's cut and Farmer is fired.

Perhaps I'm about to go on a tangent over semantics, but I'm proceeding anyway.

There is a very important distinction between a "stupid fan" and a "dedicated fan". Not all dedicated fans should be labeled as stupid, and not all stupid fans deserve to be categorized as dedicated.

I believe Cleveland Browns fans have been wildly dedicated since the team came back. You can't question that. Some were stupid, and the ones who blindly bought into the Manziel hype could sure fall into that category. But there are a lot of football fans who know the game, and they are dedicated too.

For example, Golden State practically sold out their crappy arena in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s with an overwhelmingly shitty product taking the court. Sometimes that was because Golden State fans were paying to see the star opponent, but they filled that arena in bad years, and if the product was good, they were loud as hell. I considered them dedicated, not stupid. They knew the game and followed the game. I see the arena culture changing when they move to San Francisco in a new arena and the prices shoot up to astronomical levels. Blue collar Oakland fans are going to get priced out. The product on the court will be very good, but the fans might actually be higher educated, higher in the tax bracket, but less dedicated. In many ways, they will be stupider about basketball than their blue collar counterparts.

I hope the Cleveland Browns fans eventually get their moment I saw Oakland fans get this past summer.

I just hope that prices don't skyrocket and turn the lower bowl of the stadium into the lower bowl at Cavs games... Sometimes I think there's glue on the seats at the Q.

Speaking of California...

Do you agree with my hypothesis that if Cleveland was to increase its gay population and become excruciatingly PC, that its teams would get better out of fear of offending and discriminating against fans that feel they're receiving a lesser product than fans in other cities?

The internet has already created a PC culture. What you type will be available for somebody with an axe to grind against you. If someone hates you enough, they will be able to read a 2007 comment you made about animal cruelty. So, anyone using the internet has already inched closer and closer towards the standard of general acceptable opinions.

...And your 35 thousand plus posts have already acclimated to it.

...And that is how you take a thread about Cleveland Browns quarterbacks, go off topic, and make it even more depressing.

Manziel will start at least 3 games before the season is out.

1st he already earned the starting job
2nd he was removed from the starting job not because of his drinking but because he lied to cover up the drinking.
3rd. If i could see that Mccown wouldnt last a game (just by reading his injury updates) there is no way Pettine thought starting Mccown was gonna keep for the rest of the season. anything but just a short term band aid (supported by Manziel being active on MNF).

This situation wouldnt of even occurred in any other organization. the media relations would of been handled completely different.

Even Pettine realized Manziel learned more from playing than he did sitting on the bench.

Manziel was drafted to be developed. He showed he wasnt ready just as the team thought at the time he was drafted. However after a solid preseason and time on the field. Manziek is ready as he ever will be. so he needs to play.

The sooner the better.

If Pettine wants to play the tough Love role then so be it but Austin Davis wont have near the leash Hoyer and Mccown did.

Roethlisburger, Bret Favre, Jim Mcmahon,Kerry Collins,Jack Treadeau, Terry Bradshaw, Donovan Mcnabb(make sure you have a designated driver if he offers you a cough drop),Warren Moon,Bill Munson. Sebastian Janikowski , Steve Mcnair etc

Sure you have your Ryan Leafs, Todd Marinovichs, Art Schliecters , Brien Grieses

Hell raisers who probably did more than diving on Swans during their party heydays.

Manziel went to rehab he chose goto rehab and he may not have stopped drinking but he was alble to put football as his priority and be a professional.
rehab isnt a miracle cure . people are who they are and while Cleveland wanted to treat Manziel like someone under NFL conduct policy. Manziel wasnt.

but going out and clubbing doesnt determine whether a quarterback can lead a team.
never has never will.

People and teammates used to call Jim Kelly a locker room cancer for the "Bickering Bills" yet they got it together and ent to 4 straight Super Bowls.

"act like a backup QB Manziel"
"dont goto the clubs on the bye week Manziel"

People can have different opinions on QB without being Stupid Fans.

I was told on these forums that Manziel was a scrambling, run first qb with no arm, This years Manziel doesnt fit that description. He has shown he can connect on the bomb with mediocre receivers and hardly tucks the ball until the last moment.
I was told Manziel wouldnt be able to go through his progressions then the coaching staff critisizes him for bypassing his first read in favor for his 2nd or third read.

Manziel didnt help himself by missing practices, almost getting a DUI and domestic issue as well as lying to the team but the lack of leadership doesnt start and end with Manziel.

I say good luck to Austin Davis but dont be surprised to see Manziel out in the field within the next two games.

Brutal that people still have the hook in so deep.

You feel bad after a while.

Oh god.

Just start Manziel now. Possibly going into the off-season with Manziel still being somewhat an unknown would be disastrous. It might cost us our QB.

what about him is unknown?

At this point, nothing about Manziel is unknown.

False. We have no idea what his penis looks like. Not one snapchat leak. Just that lawsuit involving the small world ride at Disney World.

Given Johnny's track record, I'd wager we find out sooner rather than later though.

I stand corrected

Im as nervous about releasing any young player as anyone due to them potentially tearing it up on another team.

But I have zero fear of that happening in Manziels case.

He will have another off field incident. You can't count on him and you certainly can't hitch your franchise too him.

Many people saw this before the draft. Hell, even the Browns own expensive, thorough report said that he wasn't the best ranked prospect.

He needs to go, along with Gilbert. Until they are gone, the Browns front office has zero credibility in my eyes, not that they were working with much credibility to begin with.

I do find myself feeling kind of sorry for Pettine. We asked a first time head coach to come in here and develop a culture. As with players, coaches need to develop as well. I've seen small growth in him and a decent sense of leadership, but of course we will fire him before his 3rd season all the while forcing players on him such as Manziel that you know he doesn't want.

It starts at the very top, and this is the greasiest of grease fires right now.
