Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If they are giving up on Manziel, like I have, I would prefer to go with Locker or Sanchez. If the Browns still think that Manziel can be a starting QB, which I highly doubt. Than McCown or Shaun Hill are the two guys that would best fit into what we are trying to do.

Phipps did another drop on OBR

To follow up on some news I brought to you around a month ago...

The Browns and Manziel's team have both been working hard, behind the scenes, to secure his final plane ticket out of Cleveland. It's a delicate process because it's illegal at this time.

I was told today that the Browns "have a buyer" and everyone on board will sign off on the move.

Expect a new little QB in the NFC South next season, with the move likely being made on March 10 or shortly thereafter.

Sounds like Johnny will likely be a Buccaneer. Everyone else is pretty settled at QB in the NFC South, unless he is being traded to the Saints to be Brees's understudy. He can resume the "Fuck it, chuck it" offense with Mike Evans.

That's what I'm thinking, the price is cheap enough I think this is the Saints

Johnny and Teddy both struck me as dome QBs in last year's draft so if this is true both will get their chance in one starting in 2016

Definitely see Saints if this is true. What good would the Bucs do in trading for a QB who we don't even know if he should be in the league? They've got the #1 pick. Can't see them trading for a QB. They're going to let Glennon bridge the gap if necessary.

Calling my shot: Browns will take Bryce Petty, QB Baylor, in the 3rd round.

How reliable is the guy from the obr? Is he another (MFJones?)
At this point I would not cringe if they went after Shanchez as a stop gap for a year-2. Not ideal in any sense, as he is an average starter and solid backup, but I do think he is an upgrade over Hoyer. There looks to be 3-5 Qb;s next year that could have first round grades .( I know waiting another year is not exciting to get your qb of the future, but it is the position the Browns are in.)
Realistically, I dont think we get our Qb of the future unless they take a gamble on Petty in the 3rd round/ maybe second and get lucky.
I dont love Petty, but he seems like he has enough talent to work his way into a starting NFL qb who is which at least slightly above average ( which would be utopian in Cleveland )

I'd like to see more of Petty, but I'm a quiet fan. Quiet only because I haven't seen enough to be more confident about him. Unfortunately, I don't see him being available in the 3rd.

Yeah, Petty is going earlier than the third.

I'm totally on board with bringing him in, though.

I'm curious about this as well, how reliable is the source of this news?

I just scanned the scout board and the guy seems to have some kind of credibility. Not a ton, but some. He seems confident in his "source", but some of the veterans over there are skeptical (reasonably) and less than convinced that it's happening. It hasn't been out of the norm for posters to nail stuff the insiders didn't have.

THERE IT IS!!!

This seems like a typical Cleveland type of signing right here. He perfectly fits the role of career backup for the inevitable yearly "career backup vs. shitty draft pick vs. undrafted guy" Browns QB competition.

It just makes too much sense not to happen.
It also ensures the name 'McCown' appears twice on that jersey that has 16 years of QB names or whatever.

I want Hoyer back as a backup/spot starter/bridge QB and I want him to be paid as such. I think the Browns would be ok with him coming back as that but they want to pay him backup QB money which I'm not sure Hoyer would take. Therefore, I don't have a lot of hope that Hoyer will be back.

I'm not sold on Petty or Hundley. Both are intriguing and I'd be ok with taking a shot on them later in the draft (3rd round on) but I don't have a ton of hope they can be the guy for the future.

I'm not sure the future guy is on the roster now, available in the draft, in free agency or via trade.

If they want a competent short term QB I think they take a stab at Josh McCown and kick the can down the road for 1 more year until they can find another QB. He's not the answer but he can stabilize the position for a season.

If they want to take a shot at a future starter they may go after Ponder, Locker or Mallet. The odds are low they pan out but there is a chance at least. I would put Glennon in that list as well but with McCown released, I think TB wants to keep him as Winston's backup. There is risk with this strategy because they can, and odds are they would, fuel the raging dumpster fire we've had burning at the QB position since 1999.

I've written off Manziel completely (big shock there I know). I'd be 100% ok with them cutting bait this off season.

He had Shanny and the WR coach leaving December 30th

Some rumors floating around Shanny is about to leave over on OBR

Might be complete nonsense but figured I'd toss it over here as well

Then January 10th he dropped this

Nate Fitch recently approached Browns

The wheels could be in motion to end the Manziel experiment in Cleveland. Handlers want him in the south-southeast, away from toxic situation. Many voices in Browns brass insisting Manziel is the toxic situation. Both sides seem motivated

This comes from a very reliable source, and yes, he is still employed with the team. And he stresses this is "a March move" meaning its likely going to happen in the coming weeks and hang there until the new league year kicks in early March.
