Cleveland Indians Offseason News, Notes, and Rumors

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The payroll was always going to end up around $65-70 million. It depends if you counted that $9 million as part of that final number or not.

I realize that the payroll will have to go up due to arbitration. I guess what I am saying, do you think that they will spend an extra 9 mill or more on a free agents? I'm worried that they wont address the needs and give us the "we have good young talent already here" speech when we obviously need some established vets.

You honestly think nobody is going to pay him as a starter?

And who said anything about him getting 9 million from someone else, because it certainly wasn't me. Although he'll get more than he would here.

How delusional can you possibly be?

Are YOU delusional? If I am a fan of another team, (lets say Washington) and they need a CF or LF to get them over the hump and they sign Grady for 9 mill or even 4 million I would be pissed. You said we shouldn't call him an a-hole for not taking less than 9 million. No way anyone signs him for 9 when he has only played a total of 104 games hitting .218 the last 2 seasons.

Of course YOU would be pissed.

But most teams realize those numbers are skewed because of injury. And he's a low risk-very high reward signing for 4 million.

There will be a number of teams in play for his services.

In order to be his old self he would need his elite speed back, which will never return.

Elite speed was never really Sizemore's whole game. Never stole an exhortation amount of bases.

Power and OBP at a non-power position. That is Sizemore's game.

He can get that back IMO.

I think Seattle will be a great landing spot for Grady.

That team needs offense in a bad way, and he's a Washington native.

It's not his whole game but it was a pretty big part.. He could still walk some, but I don't think we'll ever see his power return to form. He could probably hit like 20 bombs in a healthy season now, but I don't see much more.

that would make Wedge's stache hairs stand up for joy.

I believe this shows we are very confident of picking up some good players. I originally thought we would pick up Sizemore's option because his surgery went well and is expected to fully recover. We aren't picking it up. We have big plans now.

B.J. Upton = acquire him via trade.
Michael Cuddyer = we will be all in for him now.

Fall backs:
Josh Willingham

I do really believe we plan to be very active starting now. I think we know our time to go for it is now.

MLBtraderumors.com said this a few weeks back:

"The Indians have just $17.7MM in guaranteed contracts for 2012, but that figure will rise to the $40MM range if the club retains all of its arbitration eligible players, as expected. If the Indians pick up the options for Sizemore and Carmona, payroll would be over $55MM before accounting for minimum salary players or potential acquisitions. Antonetti says he expects the Indians to exceed this year's $49MM payroll and accommodating both Sizemore and Carmona without a substantial increase would be difficult."

Since it looks like the Indians are declining Sizemore's option, that puts the payroll at around $47 M after they pick up Carmona's. That gives the Indians around $23 M to play with this offseason. Let the rumors begin.

My wish list:

Get a starting outfielder + retain Shelly Duncan
Get a 1st baseman
Get a 3rd starter.

Go in that order and you have a solid contender.
