Cleveland Indians Spring Training Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Canzler, Duncan and Lopez are all playing really well. Those bench spots are going to be interesting - with Cunningham out of options and Pie playing decent as well.

I hope Donald isn't on the outside looking in.

I think Donald makes the team before any of those other guys you mentioned. His versatility and bat are going to be valuable coming off the bench.

I have to admit that I'm intrigued with Shelley Duncan. He keeps hitting those big blasts. Yeah, yeah, I know it's just Spring Training, but he changed something in his approach at the plate at the end of last year and ended on a high note. Canzler has options and can start in AAA, but I give him credit for his nice ST so far as well.

I remember reading at the end of last season how Shelley was always talking to Thome (getting tips for at bats and all those kind of things). Maybe Thome had a good effect on Shelley? I don't know, but it is possible that he helped make something click for Shelley.

Random:

@robneyer: I have heard Mark Shapiro talk about Brandon Phillips before, but never heard him say Wedge didn't want Phillips on roster. #SABRanalytics

Cross Johnny Damon off the list of potential Sizemore replacements.

MLBTR:

The Indians are looking for a leftfielder but have no interest in Johnny Damon because of his lackluster defense, a Cleveland front office executive told Jim Bowden of ESPN.com. In an interview with Bowden on MLB Network Radio this week, the veteran said that he plans to take his time in choosing a team as he looks for an everyday job.

I wouldn't mind giving Russ Canzler a chance to start in LF. I know his natural position is 1st base, but still, he can't be too bad in the outfield.

heard that Kotchman was having back issues.

wouldn't mind Canzler getting an extended look to start the year if Kotchman isn't ready

Hope we can find a place for Jose Lopez given how he is swinging the bat .he may be back to his 26HR 95RBI form

If we are worried about defense, then why in the fuckiest of fucks do we have Brantley in CF?!

Praying Jose Lopez is back to 25/95...and you're complaining about a lack of competent baseball discussion?

Lopez won't go back to 26 and 95, but getting himself out of the hell hole that is Safeco was a great idea. If his BABIP can start to rise now, I could see him being a .260 hitter with some good pop, definitely a good player off the bench/in the minors to have.

exactly the situation at Safeco was not ideal for him after they acquired Chone Figgins

he has the potential to be a decent bench player

for those who don't overuse the word "mediocre" in every post, Lopez has better career numbers than Hanrahan!

Jose Lopez his last year in Seattle in 622 PA hit .239 w 10 HR and 58RBIs

Jack Hannahan last year his .250 w8 HR 40RBI in 366PA

an off year from Lopez in 2010 rivalled the career year of Hannahan in 2011

Oh goodie, spring training stats!

Those are super relevant.

more relevant than most of your whiney posts

Lopez is having a good spring .529 BA 2HR 1.000SLG 1.600 OPS, lets see if he sticks

most people who know anything about baseball know that Lopez has more upside than hannahn ever did ,is 3 years younger and can play all the IF positions

Most people who know anything about baseball don't give a fuck about 10 games worth of spring training stats.
