Commentary Thread - 2020 RCF NFL Mock Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If Hamler could catch, I'd agree. Really hate Hamler's hands.

Bills getting Weaver at 54 is a big win.

With 2019's team sack leader Matthew Judon almost certainly finishing up his Ravens career in 2020 on the franchise tag, we needed to go hunting for a replacement for 2021.

Enter Josh Uche. Don't envision him playing a huge amount as a rookie, likely just as a situational pass rusher, but this the kind of long-term play you can make when you've gone 14-2.

Give Uche a year of NFL coaching and weight training and we are quietly penciling him in as the starting weakside EDGE in Wink Martindale's 3-4 defense in 2021.

Pretty happy to get the best RB in the class at pick 56.
There is always a legit question about how much tread remains on the tires for primary Wisconsin running backs.
Miami might get good value or they might have picked a lemon.

We will know more in a few years.

Whoa, Harris off the board in the late 2nd. He is a guy I had hoped would be a 4th round target for the Browns next weekend.

Best ZBS center in the draft. I could not afford to let another team draft him. I got my top two interior linemen, which was my key goal going into the draft.

I think the mileage concerns are ridiculous, to be honest. If he was a guy who was constantly hurt or hobbled in college, that would be one thing. But this is a guy who has never missed significant time in college despite NFL workhorse touches and he's an absolutely elite athlete. If anything, he's proven that he's NFL durable, whereas a lot of other backs have not. He's basically Nick Chubb minus the knee injury, and Nick Chubb minus the knee injury would have been a prospect on par with Saquon Barkley. He was also only in college for three years, although I suppose he probably got about four years worth of touches in that time.

Beyond that, in my opinion you're really only looking to get three to four years of top-tier production out of a day two RB before moving on. Unless this guy is a generational talent, which to be fair he might be (he's the best RB prospect since Barkley imo, although obviously they do their damage in very different ways), he's probably not getting a second contract with the team that drafts him. So you're looking to use him early and often and then let someone else sign him to his second deal.

The same philosophy leads me to believe the Browns should invest a day two pick in a back either this year or next. This year is probably too early since we've got both Chubb and Hunt, although the class is very good. I think it's far more likely the Browns take a day two receiver this year since RBs can typically produce at a high level right away but receivers often take a year to get adjusted.

tl;dr - Any team that signs a RB worried about if he'll be durable enough to play on his second contract is doing it wrong. The way you use this position is to invest in guys almost yearly, sometimes on day two, sometimes on day three, and make sure you have your next lead back on your roster before your previous one wants his payday. Then you sign that first guy to a deal if you can get a good value or let him walk if you can't and let the next guy take over.

That's a helluva draft so far. All 10 Dolphin fans would have to be ecstatic with that.

I'm just glad no one took Taylor before me because then I would have had to spend like half an hour researching which guards are left. Akers would be my next RB choice, but I'm pretty sure I could have gotten him at 70.

I posted a video from a Green Bay site about Harris about a month ago. He is undersized, there's no getting around that. Teams would have to worry in short yardage situations because he will get pushed backwards at times. However, in space he is outstanding. I also think he has elite balance to help him in pass protection. He is a great player, I just thought a few other "physical specimen" type interior players would go before him. If someone took Ruiz before me or the trade fell through I would have taken Hennessy from Temple at #46.

I did PM Bimbocoleshair, he is reliable in these mock drafts. I will pick for him if he still hasn't picked by the time I'm hitting the sack tonight.

As much as the Uche pick was a BPA scenario for the Ravens, the decision to select Robert Hunt is very much out of need after the relatively unexpected retirement of 7x All-Pro Marshall Yanda at age 35. We hoped to get another year or two out of Yanda who was still playing at an absurdly high level, but alas it was not meant to be.

Hunt played all over the line in his four years at Lafayette, with his final two years coming at RT.

But for our purposes in Baltimore, he's going to get the first crack at replacing Yanda at RG.

If he can't handle it (we think he can), then he'll provide much needed depth in 2020 at both guard spots as well as right tackle.

Ravens 2020 Selections
28. Kenneth Murray, LB, Oklahoma
55. Josh Uche, EDGE, Michigan
60. Robert Hunt, OG, Louisiana

We must stop this Bengals Draft from happening in real life. Burrow, Baun and Pittman Jr? Goddamn...

This draft is deep on #2WRs, but I stop being excited about the big time #1 WR game changers after Lamb, Jeudy, Ruggs are off the board. At that point, waiting until another round seems smart.

It's going to be fun analyzing this thing when we finish the third.

I am glad I did the right thing and added (2) extra 3rd rounders the Bears desperately needed, but damn do I want to pick again :chuckle:

Hope I can make both of my next selections

Stark says he will have the pick in about three hours when he gets home from work. If you have a pick coming up, log on tonight after 8pm EST.

What else you doing tonight? Seriously. My wife is so sick of my shit she would love for Thursday's draft to start tonight so she can drink rose wine with high school friends on Zoom.
