Damon Jones is a Cancer

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The whole team had a crap night. Early in the game when we were moving the ball and running the offense we were GREAT. After we started chucking we sucked. It seems that this team is ok as long as we are ahead. get behind and we panic and get stupid on D.

As far as Jones goes his teammates like him.....it doesn't matter that WE think he's a "showboat". The TEAM obviously thinks he is the class clown and like him. As long as the TEAM likes him he is NOT a cancer.

It still amazes me that people thought this team was going to be a POWERHOUSE this year. It is exactly what I thought it would be. A good team....that still is not GREAT. Maybe by the end of the year we'll be closing in on great....but I think it will take another player.

We have the tools to be a powerhouse.
On offense:
We have a huge post presence and the offensively talented Z
Two of the best penetrators in the game: LeBron James and Larry Hughes
Outside shooters to spread the floor: Damon Jones and Donyell Marshall
Good post scorer and great rebounder in Gooden
On defense:
Shotblocker... Z
Defensive system to lock down opponents and cover any weaknesses.. Mike Brown
All defensive 1st team: Larry Hughes
Solid defensive vets: Alan Henderson, Donyell Marshall, Eric Snow, Ira Newble

The problem? We're not utilizing our pieces to their maximum potential, because we need to get the defensive system down first. It's a tough, slow approach, but it's slowly growing on our boys. If we get the defense down, which will take some time, but once we understand it and are comfortable with it, then we will be a powerhouse. Then, we'll be allowed to work on the offense and we'll be unstoppable on both ends of the floor.

My main complaint with DJ is his ego seems a little too large for the team. Yet i realize a shooter has to have confidence in himself, even if he seems cocky, i accept it. He's tight with LeBron and that cannot be undervalued. No player is perfect, and I like Damon Jones.

As far as criticizing his defense, you have to consider his physical stature. He's thin, short, not too quick. He at least seems to try IMO. Perhaps needs to give more effort on D, but you could say that for the whole team.

He won the game for us in Chicago, and i think if he was in more @ NJ down the stretch, we may have won.

Damon Jones is cool. I support DJones. I believe in DJones.

here we go again. the Cavaliers go on a win streak and everyone is talking power rankings and championships but lose a game and everything is wrong. remember this is an 82 game season and this group of guys have played 27 games together with a rookie head coach trying to get his footing.

i do think the one spot on this team that a glaring weekness is at PG. like it was said in an earlier post Jones is what he is a shooter and very little more. some of us tried to tell people that coming into the season but some just wouldn't listen. still for all his weak areas i still see his shooting on this team as more valuible then anything Eric Snow brings. people talk about his leadership and defense but i don't really see much of either on the floor. for as much hype as he gets on D to me he isn't much more then average, he just looks good because he puts more effort into it then others on the team.

i hope Ferry is searching every option to upgrade at PG. the problem is it is early and many teams don't fell they are out of it but maybe they could get Speedy Claxton from the Hornets. the Kings look really bad to this point maybe they would listen to an ofer for Bibby. yes i know neither is great on the defensive end but both bring more to the table then Snow.

as for Gooden, i think as soon as AV is back he becomes trade bait. i don't think he has done enough for the Cavs to bring him back at the end of the year so why not see what you can get for his expiring contract.

This is not a reaction to a loss. This is an ongoing theme for me. I dislike the guys attitude. It is not team oriented. Its about him proving to everyone that he's the man from outside so he could do his showboating to impress the mob. He shows disrespect if things dont to his plan. It wore thin on me the first week of the season let alone after 2 months. This thread wasn't really about performance. It was about his head. He has issues period. He can try and cover it up with humour as much as he wants, but its very transparent. If you guys think its cool that he disrespects the coach at any time, not to mention during the game, then thats a sad state of affairs.

Why was Donyell Marshall brought up? If we have gripes about him start a thread on him and fire away.

Damon Jones can go and hit 4 3 pointers straight against Detroit and win the game, but he wont be no hero to me. It'll only take one small thing to go against him and the real Amon Jones reappears.

According to Cavs fans, Jones abusing the Coach and kicking the opposition is a good thing.

If only this type of attitude would rub off.

Know it sounds funny
But I just can’t stand the pain
Girl I’m leaving you tomorrow
Seems to me girl
You know I’ve done all I can
You see I begged, stole
And I borrowed
Ooh, that’s why I’m easy

I’m easy like sunday morning
That’s why I’m easy
I’m easy like sunday morning

Why in the world
Would anyboddy put chains on me?
I’ve paid my dues to make it
Everbody wants me to be
What they want me to be
I’m not happy when I try to fake it!
No!

Ooh,that’s why I’m easy
I’m easy like sunday morning
That’s why I’m easy
I’m easy like sunday morning
I wanna be high, so high
I wanna be free to know
The things I do are right
I wanna be free
Just me, babe!
That’s why I’m easy
I’m easy like sunday morning
That’s why I’m easy
I’m easy like sunday morning
Because I’m easy
Easy like sunday morning
Because I’m easy
Easy like sunday morning

To get back on track of the thread..

This came out of Sports Illusrated NBA preview. It was a scouting report on Damon Jones and the Cavs.. Here is what an opposing scout had to say about Damon Jones...

"They might regret signing Damon jones if he winds up taking too many shots. People remember the big three he makes, but look at what he does with the 20 most important possessions in a game, and you might find that the negatives outweigh the positives..."

I think the same could be said about Damon in all facets of his game. The possessions on the defense side of the ball and negatives that are there will always stick in our minds over him doing something good. He is a cocky player who really doesn't belong on a NBA court, but a playground court instead, jacking up threes..

Much preferred the Faith No More version Pip. Again sorry for "misinterpeting" your comments yesterday.

My feelings for Damon Jones have no wavered. Whether it comes off a win or loss, my opinions have yet to be changed as Damon has not changed his damaging ways. Why should we accept a player who disrespects the coach for not playing the minutes he believes he should get. Imagine Alan Henderson or Sasha Pavlovic doing something like that! We would be all over them like a rash. The fact remains he is consistently outplayed by Eric Snow, jacks up shots out of the offense, and is beaten time and again by mediocre guards.

I dont understand how a player of his standard is allowed to behave the way he has.

This thread is completely bogus. Damon Jones is born on August the 25th making him a Virgo, cleary not a Cancer.

No problem Karma....

I agree if someone else does this, they get ripped for it... Keep in mind, DJ's mentor is Sam Cassell...

DJ just takes it to another level... But like Chief said above, he's a virgo (like myself,) we don't take much serious and find alot of things funny... :chuckles:

It is sweet though when he starts to catch fire... Too bad we get "JackAss Damon" a little more then we get "serious Damon" on the court.

I go by Thief, not Chief thankyou.

Personally I dont care if Damon is all relaxed and stuff. I just want him to get over that nervous twitch he has when dribbling the ball. As he dribbles over half court, the brain has a spasm forcing the leg to kick out for no apparent reason.

Does Damon get to park in disabled spots?

Valid points there Karma. He does seem to think 'me-first' instead of 'team-first'. His attitude is questionable. Yet i like his confidence. It does seem to go towards cockiness, however.

For NOW, I support DJones. Remember, he has never been with a team for more than a season i think. Perhaps due to his attitude. Yet if youre shipped around every season, all you got is yourself to rely on. We got him for a while now. If this is an ongoing theme, i will object. But now i must believe in DJones. Thats just me.

Perhaps a month in the Deep Outback will get his attitude straightened out...
