Daniel Gibson: Thug Angel

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Really, none of those things are anything like each other.

It's like you putting a picture of yourself with Marcia Clarke, John Cougar Mellencamp, and Dave Thomas.

Weird....last months twitter background.

Kristen Wiig could have played a helluva Marcia Clark.

[h=1]Daniel Gibson doesn't want to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers after his worst season
[/h]Jodie Valade, Plain Dealer

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- It's possible that just three games remain for Daniel Gibson's career in Cleveland. And if that's the case, the Cavaliers guard would like to apologize.

This season has been, to say the least, a disappointment.

"With all the injuries and playing hurt . . . I wouldn't want to leave Cleveland this way," Gibson said. "It would hurt me to leave that way. I feel like the fans have always shown love to me, and this is home, basically. I apologize for the product I put out there on the floor."

This season -- the final one in his Cavaliers contract before he becomes a free agent -- has been the worst of Gibson's career, statistically, and also one of the most difficult when it comes to injuries.

His shooting percentages of 34.6 percent on 3-pointers and 33.9 percent overall are career worsts. He's played in just 45 games as he's battled elbow, toe and ankle injuries, a concussion, and simply trying to find a way into Byron Scott's rotation.

His most recent right elbow injury came when he simply was doing push-ups in the weight room recently. He heard a pop, and felt immediate pain. The elbow swelled to the point that he still can't extend his arm fully when he shoots.

Still, he is making himself available for the Cavaliers' final three games, starting with tonight's contest in Philadelphia.

"It hurts like (crazy), but I just told them I don't want to finish the season on the IR, so whatever I can do to help, I'll be out there," Gibson said.

In the past, Gibson's long-distance shooting ability off the bench has been an uplifting feature for the Cavaliers. He has shot as high as 47.7 percent from 3-point range for the Cavaliers. He has tried to redefine himself this season, going from the kid who once surprised the Detroit Pistons in Game 6 of the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals with 31 points, to a veteran defensive presence for the Cavaliers this season. Scott has often referred to Gibson as one of Cleveland's top one-on-one defenders.

Still, if Gibson is to return to Cleveland next season, it will be at a significant pay cut from the $4.8 million he's earning this season.

And Gibson said he'd be willing to look at any offer from the team and the city where he grew up. He doesn't want it to end this way.

"I would love to be here when we go into the playoffs," he said. "Because I think we are. I think we're like a year away from being a real playoff contender. And it would do so much for me to be a part of the team that after everybody broke up, to still be a part of the team that made the playoffs. That would mean a lot to me."

Daniel Gibson getting another contract with the Cavs? This is why we can't have nice things.

Just gotta stay prayed up Daniel and you will get that damn contract.

Ugh, now that kind of makes me want to bring him back. He just isn't very good anymore - but if he would take an absolute minimum one year deal, I guess I wouldn't care that much...

Maybe a new contract will recharge his batteries and get him re-focused? Probably asking too much

Yeah I'm thinking the same thing. He couldn't really hurt us in this case, could he? If he still sucks, then just let him ride the bench. At least he can still hit threes in 2k :chuckles:

I just don't see any need for a 6'2" guy who can't play PG

Sorry Daniel. You may want to come back, but I really don't see it happening.

No way do you bring him back. It's time to move on. That would benefit both sides too.

Gibson has shown little improvement as a player since he came here and has pretty much the same weaknesses that he had when he was drafted. He's also actually regressed the last few seasons and all his shooting numbers have continued to drop.

I do not see any reason why the Cavs would even consider bringing him back no matter how much less a contract might be.

This man need to go to a team be somebody's 10-12 roster spot and get his 3s back

So with all the lakers stuff. I just remembered that the Gibson era is over

Will always have fond memories of game 6 and the playoff run despite the lack luster career

Crazy how he has been with the Cavs this long, hopefully his time is truly up in Cleveland.

One bad year doesn't condemn a guy. I think Gibson, at the right price ( a small price), could still make an impact with the team. He could play with Waiters on the second unit and really add an offensive punch and defensive point of attack if he gets back to form. The only concern is size, he can play with Waiters but probably not with Kyrie for long stretches. We still need a bigger two guard on the roster that can come in a defend and shoot.

I'm not changing my name either way though :D
