I understand why if you're David Blatt you don't make that comment, regardless of context, but is he really wrong? I cant be the only one here who watches Kevin Love and feels underwhelmed, game in and game out. The guy puts up numbers, but the impact he leaves on games is minimal. I mean, him and Kyrie alone should be enough to go out there and score a couple wins against the Kings and Sixers of the world with LeBron out. This is just fucking embarrassing.

Completely embarrassing and shameful.

I would start by firing Tyronn Lue. Not sure if it would be a huge improvement, but it would send a message to the players, who have been said to gravitate toward him. Also, the defense has been terrible so if he is in charge of the defense, in no way will he be missed - especially if it was his idea to double Cousins immediately everywhere on the floor leaving wide open 3 point shooters.

There are really three ways you could interpret the comment as I see it:

1. A shot at Kevin Love not being worth a max contract. This is obviously the angle the media is running with.

2. He was being literal and thinks Kevin Love isn't on a max contract. I'm pretty sure Love's contract is basically the four-year max he was eligible for, but maybe Blatt was thinking like a LeBron-level max deal, which Love wasn't eligible for due to his time in the league.

3. Blatt confused the concept of a max contract and a guy being on a long-term deal. Thus, Kevin Love being a free agent this off-season means he's not on a max contract.

I see a ton of posts bagging on Blatt for his poor substitutions and rotations, these are ridiculous right now. Blatt isn't doing a great job right now, thats a fact. But what kind of rotations do you guys want when your bench is made up of a bunch of fucking scrubs.

There isn't a single way to make a rotation look good when your bench is Miller, Jones, Tristan, Delly and Joe Harris. Every combination of these guys is going to suck donkey dick

I thought we traded for a guy like Mozgov to handle monsters like Cousins. So what happens? Blatt pulls Mozgov from the game, sticks Tristan or Love on him. They dump it in the post, Cavs double immediately. Cousins kicks it out, they swing the ball twice, wide open shot wherever they want it. That's not smart coaching.

Your roster is absolutely terrible and has no one can score. At no point in the game, should Kyrie and Love be on the bench at the same time. Brown did this last year with Kyrie and Dion too. You can't stick 5 guys out there who shouldn't be in the league and not expect bad things to happen. You can point to Blatt and you can point to the lack of talent. Nobody is doing a good job, from Gilbert to David Griffin to Blatt to the players.

People are also underestimating the loss of Andy...that was a huge hit.

People(including myself) also overestimated that this group of players wants to win...

They don't have a attitude/will to win games.
They play like they're incapable of winning.
It's evident when they are up by 20 then seems like they mentally shut down.
Too many loses have been blow-outs,not close games.

Losing mentality ..no fire, anger , nothing.

it's even worse than that - miller's a starter now...

fwiw - i've finally seen the postgame interview myself and can comment on it -

as stupid as it was to make that comment, it is UNQUESTIONABLY CLEAR that all blatt meant to do was joke himself out of the alligation that he still has 2 max players/superstars on his team.

you can even see the smile when he says it.

all it was, was an attempt to use a technicality to deflect the question using humor.
a bad attempt, ill-advised for sure, but I can't believe anyone who actually watched it thought it was anything else but that.
definitely not any type of shot at love.

media will do what it does, but anyone here who has seen it has got to have better perspective than that.
or so I expect.

Look at the lineups he's throwing out there. No wonder the attitude is bad. Mike Brown is light years ahead of Blatt in rotations and adjustments, strictly because he had a rotation. As previous posters mentioned his lineups are head scratching.

You're getting beaten by another teams athleticism. Blatt's response is a lineup of Dellavedova, Jones, Miller, Marion, Love. The other teams big man and shooters are killing you. Take out your monster center and stick Tristan at the 5, then put the shortest, and or slowest defenders possible with something like, Kyrie, Dellavedova, Harris, miller.

This is worse than Mike Brown. With Brown you at least knew a crappy lineup was coming in because of his rotation. Blatt seems to make the wrong adjustment everytime.

You can say it's an effort to manage minutes, but our guys are still getting too many minutes and being put out with awful lineups.

If you can't see the puzzling adjustments and lineups there's no saving you.

if he put a lineup on the floor that included marion - even though marion was on the bench in a suit - then he really should be fired...

I wasn't just addressing last nights game. It's every game.

Blatt needed some better or more carefully selected assistants - Lue worked FOR a guy who is a great coach but he hasn't proven anything and of course was aspiring for the same job.

The other guys were basically failures as head coaches (Larry Drew nice enough guy but the Hawks basically played ISO ball when he was there and the other guy was an interim head coach of the Bucks I believe when they were a lottery squad).

We didn't do him any favors there.

"every game" ?

well, it couldn't have been the one before that - because marion wasn't available for that one either.

and before that game - there was no mozgov so who would you expect him to play at pf/c when thompson sits ?

Regardless of the lineup, I can watch and see whether player(s) want to win their battles , or if they are soft mentally .
I know some on this team are not athletic enough to compete against some of the others in the league but mentally they don't show me anything.
I look for pride and a attitude and I don't see it.
I know Blatt is having a problem with matchups and key subs, but I don't see any of them playing with desire .
Once a team starts a run on them they surrender.

Who on this roster right now is the answer to other team's athleticism? We have the least athletic roster in the league without Lebron, Shumpert and *gulp* even Marion.

Just about every rotation player outside of Mozgov is a guy you would typically try to hide on defense. When the other team is more athletic at every single position there is no rotation that makes sense defensively. The Cavs are always at a disadvantage from that respect.

I want someone to explain to me the rotations Blatt must use with the current injured roster to make this resemble a decent NBA level defense. Keep in mind that rotation by necessity has to included several of the following:

Kyrie Irving
Kevin Love
Matthew Dellavedova
JR Smith
Tristan Thompson

Mike Miller
Joe Harris
James Jones
Brendan Haywood

Bad/Below average NBA defenders are in blue.
Non-NBA level defenders are in red.
