- Knowing who our opponents are makes the preparation clearer. No easier, but clearer.

- Chicago has been one of the better teams and one of the real contenders since day 1. They have great players, they are well coached, they have continuity and experience.

- We are neither the hunter nor the hunter. Everybody is hunting and everybody is being hunted.

- They are a deep and talented team. But nothingunexpected.

- Coach is not thinking about how we did against their bigs, but rather how we did against their whole team.

- Us not being with our normal lineup requires us to be creative and smart. We have to compete at the highest level.

- We've grown as a team and individually, and learned how to be winning players.

- Everybody is healthy and ready to go.

- Blatt thinks Noah should say the things he said ("I'm excited to go to Cleveland" etc.). He doesn't have any problem with those comments.

- To put everything on one or two guys would be a mistake. We need to step up as a group. We're missing some guys, and we prepared for that, but everyone will have to step up.

- We've played TT and Timo together before, and we will certainly do it this time as well.

- When you're off for 8 days you're running the fine line between resting and being unprepared physically but you have to be cautios, because we can't afford to lose another guy. We tried to prepare in the best possible way without risking everyone.

- JR is an integral part of the practice, we don't want him to lose his game shape.

I thought Blatt was very vanilla against Boston.

Chicago will force him to show his hand more.
Miller didnt play. Marion was rarely used. it was rather conservative how they approvhed Boston.
Thiboduea on the other hand threw out everything and the kitchen sink to put away the Bucks as chicago Offensive sets and ball distribution were things the Bulls hadnt showed in their playoff series and the Defensive rotations were brutal.
Thers alot of stuff we havent seen from the Cavs that their more than capable of doing. I think we start seeing some of those things this series

First of, I can't wait for this series to begin..!

Judging by Blatt's career, when he succeeds - it's in this kind of moments, when his team is not the favorite, and the players feel they have to follow him to win.
Then he usually pulls a few tricks, especially in the 2nd half, and is able to change the opponent's game.

Don't be surprised to see the Cavs playing very differently from the rest of the season.

I think Blatt truly does not coach for the best ratings or the most highlights - he makes his decisions so the team can win with the highest chances.

It's interesting to see that in the beginning of the season he tried to imply one system, which looked very good and in many basketball aspects really is excellent, but it seems he felt like some players can't 100% buy into it, and that although it looks better - that system might would not get the best results.
So he chose to play differently, also because of the trades of Jan, and the Cavs resulted much better ever since.

It would be very interesting to see how Blatt decides to play now, since Love was a big factor in the Cavs offense, and we just might see more of the ball movement that we have seen in some parts of the season.

I agree. It will be a great opportunity for Blatt to show his skills. Maybe now after the upcoming series some people will understand how great a coach he is.

If there was ever a moment in time that defines a NBA Head Coach, this is that moment in time.

Go David Blatt. Go Cavs.

David Blatt cites 'concern' as Cavs prep for return to play

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- By sweeping the Boston Celtics out of the first round of the playoffs, the Cleveland Cavaliers saved themselves the stress that comes with an elongated series but gave themselves a new challenge to think about: How will they respond as a team to having eight days off in between Game 4 against Boston and Game 1 against the Chicago Bulls on Monday?

"It's a concern," Cavs coach David Blatt said Sunday after his team's final practice before it opens up the second round, "and I'd be lying if I said it wasn't because that's a long time, and our opponent obviously played games during that time."

Milwaukee Bucks by 54 points in a close-out Game 6 on Thursday, should be coming into the Eastern Conference semifinals with some semblance of game rhythm. The Cavs, meanwhile, practiced five out of the seven days they've had to wait since finishing their first-round series.

"I hope we respond well," Blatt continued. "Exactly what that's going to look like initially, it's hard for me to say. I don't know with this group. The only source that I can draw on is that we had a six- or seven-day layoff during the All-Star break and we came out fantastic against the Wizards, and I hope that we can do the same."

Cleveland actually had an eight-day window without games because of February's All-Star break and blitzed Washington in its return to the court, winning by a whopping 38 points.

Part of the Cavs' practice time in the past week, of course, was devoted to preparing a new rotation to account for the two starters in Kevin Love (season-ending shoulder surgery) and J.R. Smith (two-game suspension) they lost since the Celtics series concluded. However, and perhaps just as important, part of the practice time included live-action, five-on-five scrimmages to try to stay sharp.

McMenamin: Shumpert is Cavs' X factor
How well Chicago-area native Iman Shumpert does on both ends of the floor could be a major factor in the Cavs' chances of getting past the Bulls.

"Not overwhelmingly so just because we can't afford to lose another body," Blatt said. "But we did mix in some."

Iman Shumpert, expected to start Game 1 in Smith's place, said the time off was welcome but acknowledged the tricky balance of sitting back while simultaneously staying ready.

"A gift and a curse," Shumpert said. "It's a good time for us to get a lot of rest, but at the same time, we want to stay active. I think we've had a couple days of practice where guys were really geared up. We got some intense scrimmages in. So, we should be all right."

Kyrie Irving said "you can never really simulate a playoff game in practice," but added that the Cavs picked up their intensity this past week, nonetheless.

"We've been going pretty hard in practice and sometimes we've had to stop it a little early, because guys haven't played in so long that even any type of live work that we do, guys are getting hit and ready to go out there and compete for playoff basketball," Irving said. "So for us we've tried to stay ready for these eight days and our days of preparation have been vital, and we're ready to play the Bulls."

Ready to see Blatt coach this series...I truly feel he will excel
There is so much talent, depth and experience on the Bulls. I am viewing us as the underdog in this series, which I realize many will disagree with. In my mind, if we win this series, Blatt will be deserving of some of the credit, and will hopefully have assured himself another season with the team to see what they can become next year.

I agree. If we aren't actually the underdog, it is still close enough that there is no real margin for error. Blatt will have to outcoach Thibs, or at least coach every bit as well as he does, to win this series. This will be the first true measuring stick we have seen for whether Blatt really belongs among the elite rank of NBA coaches.

Why was there no defensive adjustments ? The open weakside threes (Dunleavy in 1st, Butler in 2nd) killed us. Throw in the Gasol free throw jumpers and it's goodnight Cleveland.

Consider another starting lineup that doesn't include Miller + Shumpert ? Shump picked it up in the second half, but in the firs,t he was just unable to take advantage of Noah from the perimeter.

I don't fault him for playing Delly down the stretch, he was easily our best "spacer" for the night.

Also, I said the defense we played in the Celtics series wasn't gonna cut and that still stands. These guys are all shotmakers, if you don't get in their bodies and keep giving them space, they will score.
