Just rewatching the Finals. I still think we could have won with proper rotations. I hate the argument he had no choice, but to play 6-7 deep. umm once we lost game 4 and it was obvious dudes were gassed we had no choice, but to play the bench. This series was just so winnable and I can't believe we let 2-1 lead slip.

You are wrong though, like, completely wrong. We wrung every last bit out of our players and managed to beat gs twice with probably the second worst team lebron ever carried to the finals. The fact that we actually made it competetive is fucking insane when you consider how hobbled we were as a team and Blatt's rotations and adjustments throughout the playoffs were a Big part of it.

So, we still lose that series with Greg Pop? Not saying Blatt had to be perfect, but when starters are gassed I don't care who is on the bench rest these guys. I thought we should have conceded and rested guys up for game 5. No starters should have played because guys could barely run and come with a rested group for 6.

You really think we would stand any chance playing a lineup of Mike Miller, Marion, Joe Harris and Perkins/Haywood?

I would take LeBron playing with a blindfold, after a marathon, alone against the GSW 5 than that pile of shit.

Well it certainly didn't look good, but right now, Perkins is starting for the Pelicans, Miller got another contract with the Nuggets. So they aren't quite the D-Leaguers we've been watching all preseason... Marion, who knows what the story was with him and why Blatt wouldn't play him. maybe he was toast, but he looked good those two minutes (producing two steals) he played against the Celtics before he was nailed to the bench.

(Is it really Marion's fault that Blatt played a 37 yr old man who'd never played SGs at the 2 -- 52% of the time? Even the term "shooting" guard doesn't fit Marion.)

You're acting like Pop has never lost a series. Just last playoffs, Pop lost in the first round with a healthy SAS team to the Clippers, who are inferior to GS. So yes, Cavs still lose with Pop as coach.

Sorry, Chris, I usually agree with 95% of what you write, but Marion, Miller, and Perkins were part of a squad that was responsible for some of the most embarrassing basketball ever played by a professional team, let alone a contender (I'm thinking about the 1-8 stretch when the Cavs had a ton of injuries and had to use those guys as key rotational players, or the Clippers game where they nearly blew a 30-pt lead in the 4th quarter, among many other examples). To insinuate that using those guys would've made any sort of difference is simply a huge stretch.

Insinuate is probably right. I'm certainly not saying it. But I think that maybe Blatt had closed his mind on them, and that, they may have a little bit left in the tank (which we generally didn't see)

I love how Miller's obvious demise has auto-translated to the other 3.

I think Marion might have had something in the tank, based on just the springiness he showed at the end of the season when he came back from injury. It seems inappropriate for Blatt to just write off a potential hall of famer given that we were so thin we had team members collapsing from exhaustion.

We wouldn't be having these conversations if Smith had stayed as hot as he had been. Blatt has shown time and time again he goes with what works at the time, something i have commended him for tirelessly. He is the anti-Brown, which couldn't make me happier.

Perkins? GS beat us because they went small. Perkins would've looked like a fool out there. Don't get me started on Miller. We kept telling ourselves "just wait till he gets in game shape" He looked no quicker at the end of the season than he did in the beginning. It's been reported Marion and Blatt butted heads quite a bit. In his first year as an NBA coach, he could've caved or stood his ground. He chose the latter, which i think will pay dividends this year. He's beginning to gain the respect of our players, which is huge to overall team success.

Injuries and tired legs lost us the series. The fact we even had a chance was a shock to me. Throwing Miller, Marion, and Perkins would have maybe helped with the exhaustion but don't act like they would've actually contributed in the +/-.

Well how could have Blatt made decisions based on what Miller and Perkins would do 4 months into the future?
We've seen Marion, Miller and Perkins play throughout the season, and those are the things I base my opinion on, and I would guess Blatt as well. They were awful most of the time. Marion showed SOME quality, and I will concede the point that he shouldn't have been a SG, but I have SERIOUS doubts that his old legs would do any good against a fast team like GSW.

In terms. Blatt insisted in some fucked up doubling Curry as soon as he approached the 3 pt line. He would quickly pass the ball, and basically every possession was a 4 v 3 possession, while guys ran like madmen to get back to position. Every shot was an open shot.

That strategy in particular was an absolute disaster, helped gassing out the team, and Blatt never changed it.

That was decisive, despite a lot of good stuff shown from him, like the great defense that surprised everyone during playoffs.
