During practice today:

Reporter - "Why'd you get rid of him (AJ Price) in the first place?"

Blatt - "We didn't 'get rid' of him.. We just waived him [smiles]."

I seriously could watch this guy talk all day long.

I am Mike Miller fan and i were Coach Blatt, he wouldn't be sniffing the court either. He needs to defend better and make shots. I think looking at Miller, something isn't quite right health-wise. Blatt knows it is a long season and that he'll be punching the Mike Miller ticket when needed.

Looks like a Doritos problem. He along with his friend "Bron" both showed up out of shape. People keep saying that Lequit lost all that weight so he was in shape. As has been noted before I think he lost lean muscle mass and also didnt play any basketball. He was definately huffing and puffing in our f irst few games.

Hey Blatt! Get your rotations figured out! Lebron plays 15 straight minutes?!? Takes a minute and a half break and plays the rest of the 4th?!? smh...

Granted, if Miller gets in shape, Marion can slide into the relief role for LBJ but there's got to be something else we can do then run him into the ground this early into the season.

Marion getting moved to the bench I think will be key to reducing lebron's minutes. LeBron had been playing fewer minutes recently.

It's not even the minutes i am concerned that much about...just the fact that there is no rhyme or reason to who goes in, goes out. I understand we are still working on team roles and developing chemistry but playing consistent minutes with consistent players may just contribute to, oh i don't know, developing CHEMISTRY.

it is incredible that there is such a vast difference between Mike Brown and David Blatt and they can both get jobs coaching in the nba.

This is my only problem with Blatt. I really like him and the team has obviously shown a lot of progress.

But I can't wrap my head around his sub patterns at all. Maybe he is still getting adjusted to the 48 minute game, but it's all over the place.

And how he subs Lebron makes no sense to me either.

I assume it will improve with time.

Their paths are so different as well. One guy got it by working his ass off and coming from a successful coaching tree. The other guy got it by simply winning in every environment he's been in - setting trends along the way.

Really funny moment tonight in the Blatt post-game interview. He had a little back and forth with the reporters RE: Mike Miller:

Blatt - "Mike Miller's a pro. And has been a pro for.. 16 years? [looks over to staff] Is that correct? C'MON guys this is your moment, you know, I'm calling on you! Is this his sixteenth season, does anybody know?"

Reporters in unison - "Fourteenth."

Blatt - "Alright, well good. You know, he's been a pro for 14 years.. You sure about that? [looks puzzled]"

Allie Clifton - "He just told me it was his fifteenth [giggles in her cute Allie Clifton voice]"

Batt - "Yeah, see, none of you guys know what you're talking about [shakes head]." :chuckle:

And to follow up, Blatt's favorite Chinese reporter at the end asked, after Blatt refused to end the press conference without answering one of her questions:

Reporter - "Kyrie Irving has a nickname of 'Mr. 4th Quarter' as he always puts up a big performance. Tonight, a lot of Chinese fans commented that he was the MVP for the game. What's your opinion on that?"

Blatt - "Ugh.. I'd beg to differ, I'd say it was Mike Miller. With all due respect to the billion and some odd people in China [winks and blows a two-handed kiss] See ya! [leaves like a rockstar!]"

I want me some David Blatt merchandise! Dude is a charismatic God!

One of the things we heard, and we were excited about, when we learned about blatt is there would be no more robotic substitution patterns like we had seen with brown.

He was known to play guys who were hot, different players for different situations, and guys might not even get minutes some nights depending on the matchup.

Last night our offense and our lead fell apart when dion came in. There might have been more factors, but mike miller made winning plays and stayed in.

I'm sure once the starters look better, the bench will, but I'm not sure we will ever see set rotations with blatt.

27. No one is going to openly complain about it, but some of the bench players are privately admitting it’s difficult for them because no one has any idea who is going in when and how long they’ll be out there. There is no rhythm or consistency to the rotation and that has an impact on guys over the long term.
28. Even Byron, on some of those dreadful Cavs teams, would stick with a certain lineup or rotation for about 10 games to give everything a fair chance. Guys on the Cavs’ bench would like a similar chance. That’s what James was alluding to Monday when he said Miller needed consistent minutes and that’s what Miller was hinting at when he said a shot here or there does not constitute a slump.
29. Blatt said Dellavedova’s injury threw some things into flux. Now that Delly is nearing a return, we’ll see if Blatt can settle on a rotation. We’re 16 games into the season. It’s well past time to pick nine guys and stick with them for at least 8-10 games and see if they can develop a rhythm.
30. Speaking of Blatt, he amuses me with the way he spins things and expects us to believe him. Here is just a short list off the top of my head. I’m sure I’m missing a few…
31. On removing Waiters from the starting lineup and making him a bench player: “We didn’t move him to the bench. I never saw guys that play as many minutes as Dion played as bench players. To me they’re just second starters.”
* When he was asked why they got rid of A.J. Price: “We didn’t get rid of him. We just waived him. That sounds too extreme.”
* Then tonight on Miller’s prolonged absence from the court: “Mike was never out of the rotation. He just took a little break, that’s all.” I’ve taken vacations that weren’t as long as that break.
32. In fairness to Blatt, his point about Miller was the Cavs were winning big their last few games, so why stop a good thing? But it’s disingenuous to say Miller wasn’t out of the rotation. Of course he was. He’s barely ever been in it dating all the way back to the preseason.
33. Blatt also didn’t seem to like reporters asking who he was starting tonight. He had fun with it and joked around a bit, but he made it clear that type of question would’ve never been asked in the Euroleague. It’s a fairly standard pregame question here. Little adjustments everyone has to make.

I take this thread to be the one about rotations, etc. Joe Harris had a nice little run there, but he should only be playing in the 4th in blowouts. He has become a total liability, which is to be expected from a second round rookie. It is looking like a good pick so far, but he needs to develop in non pressure situations.

The Cavs have a tough run of 6 games in 9 days with 5 on the road. It will be a necessity for Blatt to use the bench regularly during that stretch of games. It will be interesting to see how he sets up his rotations.
