DeAndre Liggins Waived

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
TT an off-reb threat.. teams must always put a body on him if they want to get a rebound.. he's also a good receiver off the oop..

cautiously optimistic with liggins.. would love to see him against premiere guards (harden/westbrook/curry) to see what he's got defensively.. he did make derozan work for his shots last time..

but so far so good.. putting him with the starters and having jr and shump come off the bench would strengthen cav's bench production and would limit having jr and dunleavy playing..

He was completely in Lowry's head, that's how he got this start.

As long as he keeps shooting well enough that teams have to respect him. We can't have two non-threats out there on offense (TT).

I think he's a lot better of an offensive player than people think. He developed a nice jumper in the d league and can handle the ball. Shooting is one thing that translates to every league. As long as he plays with lebron and gets open shots he'll be successful. I just don't want to bury him on the bench and have him struggling to get good shots with others units.

True regarding TT, but teams don't have to guard him outside the paint. As long as Liggins can make threes, it will be fine. But if other teams start packing the paint then it won't give LeBron much room to operate, and Kyrie won't have the same lanes to drive.

Really impressed me today. Always made the right pass and didn't rush anything at all. He can carve out a nice role in the rotation for sure.

So far he hasn't missed one of his wide-open threes. As long as he keeps knocking them down with consistency and continues to deliver and be aggressive defensively, the Cavs will be more than satisfied with the kind of output they're getting from Liggins.

Dare I say keep starting him?

We could really use JR off the bench. His defense has been slipping this year. With liggins starting JR could be the spark plug off the bench that we need.

I say go for it. I rather he play with our best unit anyways. Makes most sense. We got plenty of offense between Love, Kyrie, and LeBron. They are scoring at an absurd rate.

JR doesn't need any help getting his own shot. Liggins is still only going to play 18-20 minutes a game with JR and Shump getting the bulk of the playing time.

when playing with the starters he fits really well as love lebron and kyrie can create shots for each other. Its a bit like people always thought the starting unti would be when the shump jr trade happened. Might be nice for JR to come off the bench and gun for a couple of games on a mins restriction just to get some sort of flow going

You can see it in his stats. I'm not saying he's a great shooter from three, but he's better than some may realize.

NBA career (before Knicks game) =====> 33% from TH in 68 games on 024 attempts
D-League career ===============> 38% from TH in 95 games on 445 attempts
D-League 2015-16 ==============> 43% from TH in 34 games on 143 attempts
Summer League 2016 ============> 46% from TH in 07 games on 011 attempts

Even if Liggins isn't a lights-out shooter from three, he certainly seems respectable, at the very least. And possibly even better than that. We'll just have to see if he can get that 33% NBA figure up as the season (and his career) goes on.

Of the five newer bench players we have right now (Felder, Liggins, McRae, Dunleavy, Andersen), Liggins might finally be the guy who is ready to come through for us on a more-consistent basis.

That would be great. We need that, especially with Dunleavy struggling and JR hurting.

If Liggins can be a rotation guy, then we might just be (only) a legitimate backup point guard away from being pretty much whole/complete as a squad. Not counting a potential luxury like a rim-protecting big.

I really think we should consider starting him long term if he keeps hitting the Open Three.

With Love playing like an All Star again we have so much offense and shooting in our Starting Five that even a healthy JR gets kinda wasted a bit. Also JR's defense has declined even though that could be in part because he wasnt really healthy so far..

I would like the idea of Liggins starting getting around 20 Minutes with Shump getting most of his Minutes at backup PG. This would really bolster our Wing rotation.

And if we dont start him at least give Liggins 15-20 Minutes off the bench to bring in defense and hustle.

If he keeps hitting the open three he is exactly the 3&D guy we need.

starting him long term would be a total popovich move by lue

One of the reasons JR has been so effective on this team is b/c he starts with the offensive weapons you just named. He has never gotten so many wide open looks in his career.

Putting JR on the bench bunch with Shump as the PG would be a disaster, IMO. Teams wouldn't leave him like they do when he starts. He would be one of the main focus points for the opposing team when the Cavs have the ball.

JR looks great when he's hitting shots but you don't have to go back that far (last year in NY) to see how he looks when he is relied upon to create offense on his own.

Now, if you include him with the LBJ-led bench bunch, that's a different story but i'd be hesitant to relegate him to the bench just b/c Liggins has proved an effective defender in a small sample size.

I think this is the solution if starting Liggins becomes a viable option. Playing JR off the bench with LeBron and Frye means a) he'll still be guaranteed wide open looks while being under control with his shot selection b) we don't have to be so reliant upon Dunleavy, who's still struggling c) we'll shoot opposing 2nd units out of the gym.

I'm not one to hop aboard the "Start Liggins" train just yet....especially when our sample size is really just one game against the execrable Knicks (sorry ACisKing.) But if possible it definitely allows us to get more creative with our lineups than previously possible.

But JR is not defending, and I think the point of starting Liggins is he takes the most pressure off Kyrie, or LeBron defensively. If we can save those two from having to tangle with the tougher assignments, I'm all for it.

And JR doesn't need open looks. Frankly, I think he shoots the ball better when he's covered.

And it's not like he won't be playing with LeBron anymore. Liggins isn't going to get starter minutes. He's what I call a spot starter. He starts, but he still isn't going to play 25 plus minutes a game every night.
