Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

for anyone that wants to look at his advanced metrics, they are pretty impressive. His PER is second only to Davis (though its a huge fucking margin) and beats out mkg and beal by a small margin generally in most stats (ortg, drtg, ASSISTS, ts% is close). Honestly he looks right in the mix wtih those dudes. Doron lamb also put up incredible fucking numbers except he looks like a liability on defense. not that it matters

Favorite stat; His steal per adjusted 40 was three a game. It was something like nearly a full steal or two above Barnes. And his assist to turnover ration was nearly 2, which I couldn't complain about.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

At this point its obviously all speculation. One thing I love is his confidence. This guy thinks he is the best player in the gym at any time but he does so while seeming to play in the team concept. I watched several of their games and he was not scared of passing the ball to the open man. Hopefully this translates to the NBA level

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

I'm really starting to like this pick a lot. I like his confidence, his built and his style. I was blinded before. Hopefully he comes out blazing!

I can't figure out his build yet. He looks like he could be a monster physically (middle linebacker type monster), but in most clips I have watched he looks chunky to me. I know he is "thick," but I think I saw a little gut there in his NBA Workout video.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

Keep in mind the NBA Workout Video was well after the season had ended. A healthy dose of Byron Scott, a professional S&C program, and a 82 game season will have him playing at optimum weight and muscle tone

Neon Dion.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

I think this guy is going to be a ROY candidate. He can flat out ball.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

This belongs more in the general 2012 Season discussion, but once Dion gets 30 games under his belt and proves to Scott he can play D and give 100% at all times, I hope to never see a minute of the 48 game minute were both Dion and Kyrie are not on the court. Get a rotation going that has at least one playmaking, break you down offensive stud on the court for every minute of the game to score and create for others.

So happy to have playmaking Sg vs a catch and shoot SG. All the better is that Waiters shooting percentage and jumpers and 3's is not bad at all

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

He strikes me as a blue collar guy much like Cleveland. Gutsy, tough, and hard working. Can't wait to see him next to Kyrie.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

Definitely hints of Wade and Harden in him, both in play style and body type. Could easily be the best offensive player in this draft. He really is built like a tank. Love his attitude as well. Always good to have at least one of those guys on your team.

For those who haven't seen it, Grant said that he watched Syracuse's practices during which they play man to man, and Waiters was their best man defender.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

Positives:
Mentally strong (should have that "killer instinct" you can't teach)
Physically pretty strong (has naturally strong body)
Fluid and fairly quick shot release
Seems to have good instincts and B-ball IQ on both sides of the ball
Except of course not having a post-game or seeing him use one...no big deal as a undersized SG, seems to be able to score and make a play "anywhere" and in "anyway" (this should improve even more with time)
Shot off the dribble and off balance, which will make up for his short size

Negatives:
Concerns of being streaky offensively
Short length for SG, will have some mismatches at times defensively
May come off as too cocky, this may hurt when playing with a starting unit in the NBA? (I'm personally not too worried about this though)

Overall, maybe I'm being over optimistic, but not bad probably drafting a player at 4 that may be able to spread out and move/scatter around the opponents defense more than any other player in the draft. Irving should be excited now that he won't have to do that all himself nearly as often.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

Crazy how many people went nuts on the chat when we picked Dion.

I was surprised but honestly I think it was the best decision. I never wanted Barnes and TRob conflicts with thompson.
I think the reason so many people were outraged was because the media didn't put him on the map until recently. To most cavs fans it seems like the cavs bought the last minute hype and took someone whom, to us (since we only have media coverage) was a reach.

Fact of the matter is Grant and the organization probably spent hundreds of hours watching tape on this kid, for months. Once I looked him up I was very excited; hes a better penetrator than any other person we were looking at (find a video of beal or MKG splitting a double team) and has a good shot.

For a while, for me, it was like you can have one or the other. Mkg with good step but questionable shot and Beal with his .. good shot.. but questionable driving ability (no point in arguing about this the past is the past)

I think we got the best of both worlds. The only knock I see in this kid is a possible lack of effort and size, but thats just because he looks a bit chubby to me.

The reaction on the chat was disgusting. Definition of knee jerk reaction when half of them had no idea who he was. True fans know this was not an out of bounds pick and could end up being a very good one. Hind sight is a funny thing. I told everyone to look back on the draft thread from last year where half of the forum thought we were stupid to take Kyrie. Give the guy a shot and THEN make the decision on him.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

Very happy with the waiters pick given the situation we were placed in ( MKG and Beal gone). However, seeing players like PJ3 and Q miller avaliable at our later picks makes me a bit hesitant on the Zeller trade. But it will be good to finally have a legit 7 footer who knows how to tie his shoe laces ( yes thats you semih)
Not sure why we kept andy when he cannot be a part of the bigger picture but we will see soon enough
