Dion Waiters

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He's had 5 in 5 years. Each one tried to make him a starter, but eventually realized he was best off the bench.

To take this a step further...

Coach #1 is an all-time college great who is also an assistant for the U.S. national team.

Coach #2 is a multiple time NBA champion at Dion's position who both Chris Paul and Kyrie Irving greatly credit for their rapid development.

Coach #3 had been to the NBA finals and got LeBron James himself to start caring about defense and hustle.

Coach #4 has as deep a knowledge of the game as anyone in the world, is a European legend, and coached the Russian national team to a bronze in the last olympics.

Coach #5 was a guard in the NBA who stuck around because of his defensive grit, basketball iq, and sheer hustle/work ethic.

It was easy to say Jim B. simply favored his older players because of loyalty. It's easy to claim Byron was here to collect a check (and in some ways he was, but he didn't fail willing players in a mentorship role). It' easy to claim Mike Brown and Scott Brooks are awful X's and O's coaches who only got by on superstar talent. It's easy to claim David Blatt is a rookie who doesn't understand the NBA and the players within it.

The common denominator is Dion. It took me until this year to believe it.

Byron was definitely in "collecting dem checks" mode during Dion's rookie year, though.

I've always thought the problem lies with Dion's overconfidence. Had he transitioned in and filled a smaller role, letting his game develop, he could be a bigger cog as we've seen with a Jimmy Butler or Kahwi Leonard. But he felt like he was this big piece from the start and his game had too many holes to step in as such. Rather was more of a sixth man as his mindset was to carry a team offensively, which due to his talent level as well as the structure of the team was best served off the bench. I guess that's what makes him him though.

Realistically, how much does everyone think Mr. Waiters will fetch in his next contract extension?

If there aren't real signs of growth over the next year and a half he'll get less than what his rookie deal was worth.

He's worse than Evan Turner at the end of his rookie deal.

That's Dion reading from a script!
I was afraid of that! This just confirms for me that most professional athletes get through school simply based on their athletic talents and actually are on par with most middle school students in terms of education.

I don't think this is an education issue. I just think Dion is uniquely awful at voice acting.

Wasn't to bad, Cousins and Jefferson are the worst though. Al Jeff sounds like he doesn't know how to read at some points.
