What about Emeka Okafor, he says he wants out of charlotte.
Good defense, rebounding , above average offense

I saw somewhere this morning that he was definitely not going to be returning. I guess it depends on who offers him money out of the teams that still have some. I don't understand why Jordan is alienating guys like Felton and Okafor. Seems odd to want to deal the future of the team.

A source with knowledge of the negotiations says Emeka Okafor is ready to move on, rather than accept what the Charlotte Bobcats have offered long-term for his services.

The Bobcats can hold on to him for next season, but perhaps the best way to preserve value is to arrange a sign-and-trade.

As things stand now, Emeka Okafor will be an ex-Charlotte Bobcat by the end of next season, if not sooner.

Negotiations between Okafor and the Bobcats are at an impasse, an informed source told the Observer, with the team offering less now than the $12million-plus annual salary it did a year ago. A restricted free agent, center-forward Okafor now wants a sign-and-trade to another team, the source said, and is not inclined to remain with the Bobcats long-term.

Okafor's alternative would be signing a one-year qualifying offer with Charlotte, worth roughly $7million, then becoming an unrestricted free agent in July 2009.

If only we could trade AV to them, we might have a shot. Otherwise, we dont have enough to trade for him.

I like the guy, what worries me is he most definently will be looking for a Bogut-esqe extention, which I don't know how attracted I am.

while I would love to have Okafur inn Cleveland....not being able to include Varejao in any potential deal makes me think nothing can get done.

Would Larry Brown be interested in Zydrunas? Ben Wallace? I highly doubt it, but bringing in Wallace would change the culture there, which I'm sure is high on the list of things to do for Brown. Yeah, it is too bad AV can't be traded there, maybe if Okafor takes the 1 year tender they can be traded for each other come December (Okafor would have to approve of the trade)? That might be the most realistic option (but not very realistic, mind you)

Sorry we aren't trading Z for Okra..not happening.

While Emeka Okafor would be a good addition -- it would require a third team to bring him to the CAVs since our assets are largely expiring.

i read on hoopsworld.com that charlotte may try to keep okafor and then maybe trade him for av after dec. 5. dont got a link. sorry

Remember when the Bobcats signed Anderson Varejao to that offer sheet last season? Predictably the Cavaliers matched it in an instant. But now Varejao’s agent, Dan Fegan, is interested in moving his client to a team that would prioritize re-signing Varejao.

The Bobcats need an athletic, energetic big man, but here’s the rub: Under league rules, the Bobcats couldn’t trade for Varejao until a year has passed from the time of the offer sheet. That means after Dec. 5. It’s possible the Bobcats could wait that long to resolve the Okafor issue, but that’s a long time to sit in limbo with an unhappy star.

I think Danny is going to wait for 2010 when the Big fish are available...Wade,Bosh,Amare,Melo.

Okafor is a nice player and would be a very good addition but a big question would be is he worth approx. $13 million a year? He's turned down $12 million so it would very likely require a higher yearly salary to get him. I'm not sure I'd pay him that much. Okafor is a very good player but that's all star caliber major star player money. He's not really at that level.

I wouldn't be at all upset if the Cavs got him but they would have to be certain he's the right piece long term with the type of investment it would take for him.

I wouldn't mind waiting for Dec. 5th to acquire him, but I don't know where that leaves us to deal for a guard if we save AV for the Bobcats.

pretty sure I read that if Okafor (or Deng, Iggy, Gordon, West, etc) accepts the qualifying offer he can't be traded without consent because the player would be giving up their Bird Rights. Therefore the team acquiring them couldn't go over the salary cap next summer to re-sign them.
