Second guessing after knowing the outcome such a beautiful thing

Fucking Liggins shut his ass down. He had one job and he got it done, deny Kyle the ball and stick to him like glue. But Korver was a little off as well. Shit happens.
Biggest footnote everyone needs to remember about Kyle is that over the years in the postseason, teams haven't exactly found it difficult to shut off his waterworks. We managed this in 2015 with JR smith on him and the Warriors did similar last year.

Not raising this to downplay his impact but as a note of caution not to go into the postseason overly relying on his contribution.

yeah I agree , don't expect to much from him in the playoffs. especially if we face the warriors

That’s unfair. The Cavs had an entire scheme devoted to shutting down Korver. The Warriors do as well. Him being on the court opens up the floor for everyone else when teams scheme like that. LeBronand Kyrie yooo advantage of it well against GS but unfortunately nobody else could.

It's really just one guy you end up sacrificing so I wouldn't exactly call it a scheme, the rest are basic defensive principles. And yes he does open up the floor for others because his quick release makes helping off him a hard choice for the defender

I think you are right here. Establish the 3 and then let TT come in if you want. The same thing allows Wade to play closing minutes with Green

Also Korver has won so many games already this year. No biggie tonight. They threw him off rhythm with great d. LeBron lost the game with that lost turnover anyway. Hard to criticize him either. Also TT lost the game too when he broke the bench's amazing rhythm by not going hard at the rim.

Wade is a different story. He can hit the 3 and has been shooting the 3 the best in his career at about 40%. I think having such wide open shots has helped Wade a ton. Sure he played with Lebron, but this offense with shooters everywhere just brings another level to how open they have to leave Wade.

And that said, I am not sure TT is in the rotation at all come playoffs with the way Frye has been playing on offense and playing adequate defense. That bench unit with him, Wade, Green, Korver is just been a beautiful thing.

Ehh, it was more than one guy.the two Defenses you mentioned altered their screen roll coverages too. The Warriors often helped extra off Tristan and the Cavs did similar things usually helping extra on Korver off of Teague.

This is bizarro world. Korver is literally one of the best 3 point shooters of all time. He is a better shooter than Ray Allen, Larry Bird or Reggie Miller.

He isnt the all around player that Ray Allen was, but he is one of only 2 players in the history of the league in the top 10 in makes and shooting 43% from 3 while doing it. The other is Curry. Teams have to scheme to stop him. Like have a player chase him around screens or switch around screens just to prevent open shots.

Also this has been Korver's whole career. He is basically able to shoot 43% on contested 3's. It is insane.

So the other night we found out Korver is human, so what, he missed a few shots he normally makes. Move on. Wow this board is crazy sometimes.

Having the screener's defender playing a part is a basic defensive adjustment in the modern nba.

The obvious counter is what the Warriors do on a regular ie have the screener be a dynamic cutting threat (Lebron) and the passer an intelligent player that can find a needle pass (Wade).

Till we start doing more advanced stuff with Korver's runs, he will be contained in the postseason when good defensive teams employ basic defensive adjustments.

Credit to Lue who is using Korver smarter this season tho

Honestly, I don't know if it's the increased space. Don't know the numbers off the top of my head, but the eye test says Wade is making a majority of these threes off the dribble.

The bottom line is if a team sells out on a scheme to shut down Korver then they must leave a soft spot somewhere else and it's up to Lue to scheme plays to attack those soft spots and make the defense pay with open three pointers coming from somewhere else on the floor. If we trade 2 pointers for Korver's threes then the Defense wins and their scheme to stop Korver can be considered a success.

We failed to do that against the GSW in the finals and we failed to do it at times this season like the Bucks game. Teams learn that if they can make life tough enough on Korver then he can get out of rhythm and miss open shots in crunch time. When Korver is being shut down the Cavs need to make it a point of emphasis to get him some easy buckets and some open threes earlier in the game, and if that doesn't happen then maybe you don't rely on him come crunch time.

He is hitting the corner three off a pass allot too.

Its the increased space, i see no other reason for him to be at 40%
