Farewell, Timofey Mozgov

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Looks like Mozgov is going to be playing for Spurs next year, after Cavaliers committed almost 40,000,000$ for the power forward position.:banghead:

Mozgov isn't a PF... he's our starting C and he's not going anywhere. The salary cap and lux tax threshold will be up significantly next year and AV's contract for 2017-18 is nonguaranteed so we can cut him and save $10 million. We might have to pay him and AV both for 1 year but I think we can manage that. Or, we might be able to move AV next offseason as his contract will essentially be an expiring.

How will the Cavs find a way to keep Varejao around in some fashion?

No, Dan Gilbert is probably just going to pay him too. And pay whoever we trade Haywood for.

He obviously has no spending limit in order to win. He has proven this with his actions over and over again. We will pay and retain Mozgov next year undoubtedly. Anyone thinking different is ignorant and doesn't know what they're talking about.

So, I'm way jumping the gun on this, but what do you think Mozgov is worth when he hits free agency? Will the Cavs pay it?

Asik just signed a 5 year $60 million deal. And while asik may be considered better defensively, he offers little to nothing on offense and definitely can't run the floor like moz. If moz builds on what he did in the playoffs, I would imagine he's going to be looking for a deal in line with what Thompson just got.

Moz will be 15MM a year if he plays like he did last year.

Something to remember though, if the Cavs win...1 or more titles, hell if they go on a Jordan like run, the franchise will be world famous and an all time legendary franchise. The value will skyrocket. Dan knows this and will pay the piper.

Haha. Guys look around the NBA today at what was done on this seasons 69 million cap.

Next years cap is 89 million.

So whether by us or by someone else, unless he gets injured, $15 million per year is Mozgov's floor. His ceiling could be $20 million.

Crazy times in the NBA.

I'll disagree on the $15 million number.

I think given his age and his short time as a starter, he's more in line with what Chandler got.

Moz will be 30 to start next season. I think the market for him is not going to be what everyone thinks it is.

I'd put my money on 4 years, 52 million range. From an age perspective, Asik is signing his deal 2 years earlier than Moz will.....so that obviously has an effect.

Agreed. If he continues to protect the rim and develops more offensive chemistry in the PnR, the TT contract is his floor.

Little quibble - value of a franchise doesn't matter when it comes to revenue. You only realize a team's value when you sell the team, so Gilbert can still lose a ton of money even as the team's market value goes up.

Unless Moz vastly improves this season, taking the rising cap into account I’d set his max worth at $16.5 mil per year. If he gets any more than that I’d seriously cringe.

I am not at all worried about Moz. LeBron loves him. Coach Blatt loves him. We love him. Dan the man will pay and Mozzy would be back in Cleveland next summer.
