Farewell, Timofey Mozgov

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Never said it was old but it is expensive and the team is already at the cap apron after one offseason. Again, we will see what he is able to do but having one draft pick a year is going to make that hard. They will not have that flexibility once they go over. And don't expect the other owners to reverse course and make exceptions for Dan in the next round of negotiations since he was one of the owners who pushed for these restrictions in the first place.

Max Players are expensive. You have three of the top 20-25 players in the league on the CAVs; that doesn't come cheap.

But name me a team that would pass that up? Not even the Spurs, who are as much a function of Pop's brilliance as individual players, would pass this trio up (LBJ, Ki and KL).

Favorite under the radar play of the day...

Perkins laid JR out with a dirty blindside screen near half court and knocked Smith for a loop as he laid on the ground for minutes. No foul was assessed, crowd was pissed.

Good to know...I vaguely remember the retaliation. If someone doesn't mind looking it up, when was the original play (Perkins on JR)?

My point that Mozzy will need backup still stands though. Very uncool that no one stepped up for the newcomer.

EDIT- I'm not suggesting we burn assets to get an enforcer...there's a lot easier places to fill that role than internally drafted talent. The point is we need one.

Less than a quarter later, Mozgov set a screen on Durant, planted a shoulder right under his chin, and knocked him back on his heels. You could tell KD was shaken up.

He was called for a moving pick, but I couldn't have been happier with it.

We aren't going to take that shit lying down.

That was not dirty though unlike his head smack on mozgov. Guys do that all the time to give their guard a little space pushing up the ball from the backcourt. We were just not mentally aware or communicative enough to let Jr know, risking injury.

Not sure how you can blame perk for a heads up play. You can blame him for that flagrant that went uncalled.

Have you seen the play? He lowered his shoulder and leveled a guy half his size.

This in addition to the fact that he was moving his feet. A clean, stationary screen wouldn't have resulted in a guy struggling to gasp for air from the floor.

Dirty.

Me Kendrick..go back home now..

Strength of the screen does not relate to dirtiness of the screen.

This kind of play happens all the time, although rarely does someone do so with as much commitment as perk. This is kinda why he has a job in the league

Agreed. Had it been a Cav setting that screen, we would've been cheering the big for putting a (relatively) hot shooter on his behind. Austin would've been seeing his doctor today for a wicked case of priapism.

When was the Perkins hack and tear down on Mozgov, that led to Mozgov's T. I think it got pretty chippy after that. Mozgov got a charge call on the next set, then was called for a moving pick on the return up court.

Although Perkins certainly leaned into that pick with his shoulder, it was a clean pick and that's on the bigs to communicate that it was there in the first place to JR Smith.

I'm in agreement, though. I love how chippy Mozgov has been, and I think it's starting to rub off on the other players on the team, too. He's exactly what the Cavs needed - a big, physical enforcer in the paint that will either reject your shot or make you earn it at the line with a hard foul, and therefore make you think twice before driving the lane on the next play.

Those fouls were all good fouls and I have no problem with him taking them at all. If anything, I hope the Cavs are able to pick up a backup big via free agency to have a few extra "good fouls" to throw at teams every game.

Perkins foul on Mosgov's dunk was much more questionable and simply hitting his face has caused players to get flagrant fouls. Personally, the part that bothered me more was it looked like Perkins pulled Mosgov down from the rim intentionally. I'm not sure that type of play is specified in the rules but it surely doesn't seem right or safe for the player holding on to the rim.

I know everyone wants to win this year and such, but this is yet another role that a successful team fills via draft and development. This team has sacrificed a ton of assets to fill these roles that, for nothing more than cap purposes, need to be grown internally. Any fool GM can deal assets for vets who help in the short term. Billy King proved that. Can Griffin actually hold onto his draft picks, though, and find the young guys for these roles? He can't keep dealing away without stocking that cupboard asset least a little. Late 1st rounders do not become stars but they sure as hell can be backup big men, 3D defensive wings, etc.

Hopefully they can find a FA C to fill this role or a D leaguer they feel can be used in this kind of role. But dealing what is left of limited assets to add even more payroll, well, that is going to bite them in the ass really soon.

Any fool GM can deal assets for vets to help in the short term? So, MozGod and Shumpert are only vets who help in the short term? Moz is only 28 and Shump is 24. They do not qualify as short term vets--Matrix and Miller are short term vets. There's a big difference. We traded one draft pick and Dion Waiters for two starters on a contending team and one former 6th man of the year (who looks to be in top form still).

How many young players are enough? We still have plenty of draft picks in the upcoming drafts--more than enough. In fact, there's no way we have the space to develop more than two new young players at a time. And we have plenty of picks and cash to keep one or two young prospects coming in every draft.

I am so sick of hearing this baseless argument. We have PLENTY of youth, and we will have as much opportunity to add more youth in the future as any other contender. This is the cost of contending in the NBA. If you don't know that, then go find another bottom feeder with youth and "potential" to root for.

The reason why Perkins got into it with Mozgov and why he laid out JR Smith was because Mozgov shoved Westbrook after Mozgov fouled him when Westbrook drove to the hoop. This made Perkins mad and so he wanted to get back at Mozgov and the Cavs.

What I love about Mozgov is that he's a guy who will deliver the first blow. He takes it personally if you drive against him. He's an intimidator. It definitely looked like he shoved Westbrook after the play and I loved it. We need a guy like that.

This is one reason why we need a real back up to Mozgov when we can get one. The Thunder have two intimidators in Perkins and Adams. We only have one, with Mogzov. And as soon as Mozgov went off the floor Durant is dunking over the whole team and we look lost.

Mozgov is our Perkins, but he's a better athlete and more skilled. Thank goodness we have him. Now we just need one more such guy and our big men rotation should be set.

Dexter Pittman would be a nice addition for 15 minutes of hard fouls.

I missed the game. Why did Mozgov play so few minutes?
