Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Shotmaker!
In a way, Karasev is kind of a microcosm of this team. Its obvious that he's not ready. As you stated, the game sometimes moves too quick for him, and physically, he's just not ready to handle it... yet. But then you see the flashes. Those two corner threes he buried in the second quarter. The quick release on all his shots, essentially rendering the defense pointless. The ability to make the scoring pass. Not necessarily an assist, but a pass that makes the defense react (I'm referring to the pass he threw to Andy as the roll man, rather than swinging it back out top).
Similarly, I think what we saw tonight, at least for stretches in the first half and fourth quarter, is some of what this team is capable of. When Bynum is in, the ability to treat him as the hub of the offense. Throw it to him in the post, use him in the PnR, cut off of him, find open spots. That was working well for a little while... but this team isn't quite used to it, so it comes and goes. I still don't think they trust Tristan enough in space, even though he really holds his own. We saw Dion attacking and being aggressive. Jarrett Jack was actually moving the ball a little bit (he had one pass to Earl Clark that made me throw up my hands as if to say, "he can't make a simple swing pass, but he can throw that???). Alas, Kyrie reverted back to some old habits toward the end and tried to do it all himself. That wasn't necessary, and hopefully he can use it as a learning experience.
That got a little off-topic and long-winded, but the point is this: much like Karasev simply needs more time (like all rookies) to get acclimated with the speed, this team needs time to learn how to play off one another. Hopefully everyone can calm down a little bit and just enjoy the ride.
He needs more burn so the game can slow down for him. He's a far better option than Delly...and I love Delly. Sergey had some stupid fouls tonight, but he's not getting enough minutes. He's very developed for a rook and he'll make his teammates better. His passing is fantastic and his stroke is outstanding. Let he kid play...
