Farewell to Sergey Karasev

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Shotmaker!

He needs more burn so the game can slow down for him. He's a far better option than Delly...and I love Delly. Sergey had some stupid fouls tonight, but he's not getting enough minutes. He's very developed for a rook and he'll make his teammates better. His passing is fantastic and his stroke is outstanding. Let he kid play...

In a way, Karasev is kind of a microcosm of this team. Its obvious that he's not ready. As you stated, the game sometimes moves too quick for him, and physically, he's just not ready to handle it... yet. But then you see the flashes. Those two corner threes he buried in the second quarter. The quick release on all his shots, essentially rendering the defense pointless. The ability to make the scoring pass. Not necessarily an assist, but a pass that makes the defense react (I'm referring to the pass he threw to Andy as the roll man, rather than swinging it back out top).

Similarly, I think what we saw tonight, at least for stretches in the first half and fourth quarter, is some of what this team is capable of. When Bynum is in, the ability to treat him as the hub of the offense. Throw it to him in the post, use him in the PnR, cut off of him, find open spots. That was working well for a little while... but this team isn't quite used to it, so it comes and goes. I still don't think they trust Tristan enough in space, even though he really holds his own. We saw Dion attacking and being aggressive. Jarrett Jack was actually moving the ball a little bit (he had one pass to Earl Clark that made me throw up my hands as if to say, "he can't make a simple swing pass, but he can throw that???). Alas, Kyrie reverted back to some old habits toward the end and tried to do it all himself. That wasn't necessary, and hopefully he can use it as a learning experience.

That got a little off-topic and long-winded, but the point is this: much like Karasev simply needs more time (like all rookies) to get acclimated with the speed, this team needs time to learn how to play off one another. Hopefully everyone can calm down a little bit and just enjoy the ride.

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Shotmaker!

It's time to start Karasev at SG. The guy can shoot lights out, still score in a variety of ways, and he can pass extremely well. If there's anyone I'd be willing to see take the starting SG spot from Dion, it's Karasev since he could be looked at as a long-term solution at the 2. The new problem is that we would then have two sixth men JJ and Dion.

I want Karasev to play with Waiters. Waiters will find him in the corners. Not sure Kyrie will. And that's not "bashing" Kyrie, but I am honestly starting to think Waiters has better court vision. Start Jack or something and let Waiters dominate the ball when Karasev plays.

Definitely makes sense. No point starting Delly seeing as how he'd only be a short-term solution. If MB isn't going to give the Kyrie/Dion backcourt a shot, the next best pairing is Kyrie and Sergey. Long-term development should trump short-term success, but I doubt this happens as MB thinks backwards and illogically.

Karasev really has more of a starting 2-guard skillset, though. If Kyrie doesn't have an eye for him, he'll find an eye for him once he sees how easy it is to get assists with him.

More like Karasev will be getting easy assists for Kyrie...the kid has fantastic passing ability and court vision. Even better than Kyrie's, dare I say.

I'd rather have him get his feet under him against second units and with someone who will pass him the ball when he's open.

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Shotmaker!

Kara also surveys the floor before he passes the ball. He does not simply pass to somebody open but to somebody who is in the position to score.

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Shotmaker!

Really wish he wouldn't have picked up those quick fouls in the third quarter. I'm really beginning to like what I'm seeing out of him and I really hope he gets significantly more PT in the coming weeks.

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Shotmaker!

My only knock on the kid is he is not busy off the ball. He often plants himself in the corners (where he love to shoot) and doesn't show much initiative to find an opening. He is only 19 and MB needs to do some coaching to help him out. If he can find open shots the Cavs will kill a lot of teams. Such a smooth stroke. Awesome.

Not hard to say after Kyrie "amassed" 2 assists (and 4 TOs, pretty sweet 0.5 assist to turnover ratio there) and completely ignored his teammates down the stretch. 22 shots, 2 assists. He's not a point guard. We'd be better off letting Dion run point. Or Jack. Kyrie doesn't have the vision.

What is up with all of this shit? Chris Paul couldn't average 10 assist on this team. The way everyone is bashing Kyrie on his "vision" you'd think we had other all star players on this team.

Paul is a great floor general. Irving isn't a bad passer but his vision is limited. He can find cutters and the roll guy when he drives but he is terrible at the Euro game which teams like the Spurs and Warriors play. He just doesn't get the ball to open shooters off drives nearly as much as he could

lol yeah he could

And if you put Kyrie on the Clippers instead of Paul, the Clippers are the joke they used to be.

This is so off base...Chris Paul could EASILY average 10 assists on this team.
There's no one better in the NBA at controlling an offense.
