Looks like I was wrong about Zeller. I thought it was a strong move by Grant to move up to get him but strong is the opposite word to describe him. He's getting pushed around by almost every summer league C. It got to the point that he couldn't even rebound an opposing team's missed FT in the last minute of the game tonight. At the least you have to be able to grab those kind of boards.

Wait, what? His ability to shoot is his one redeeming quality. Without that he's not playing in the NBA at all.

I posted this in the summer league thread, but he does does not have a mean bone in his body. Some guys are made that way. He for sure does not have that dawg in him. He makes Chris Bosh look tough. My God even Chris Mihm wasn't this soft. Cavs need to do something about this, perhaps a sports doctor can work with him. He just can't be out there if people are literally going to take rebounds out of his hands and push him to the ground. It is tough to watch!

I dont get the hate for Zeller.
He had a decent rookie year, picked up 17th overall which half the time ends up being not even a nba player. I think Zeller has shown to be a capable center. Good one? No, he isnt going to any all star games, but for a mid-late first pick, a solid 7 foot back of the rotation guy is a damn good pick.

Tyler Zeller will never dominate a game of basketball. It doesn't matter if it is an inter squad scrimmage, a pickup game, summer league, NBA game or whatever. He is a role player. Nothing more nothing less. We didn't pick him because he had a high ceiling, or that he would turn into a strong starting centre as his career developed. They took Zeller as he could be a steady rotation center for a long period of time. Legitimate seven footers with decent touch and overall fundamentals are not that easy to acquire, so I completely understand the move.
Am I disappointed that he struggle today, well kinda a guess. You would like anyone to put up better numbers and so on. But I couldn't give a stuff if he doesn't dominate. He's shown already in the previous games that he has the ability to rebound and score. As long as he continues to work hard and strengthen that body, we'll have a dependable center ready for whatever minutes are thrown his way. Just don't expect anything great.

At this point, maybe he just is what he is: a potentially good 5th big/decent 4th big in this league. His jump shooting and overall skills should improve, but I don't know how he'll ever manage to gain more assertiveness and physicality. At this point I'm way past the anger stage and firmly settled into accepting his limitations.
