Fastlane Tonight - in Cleveland!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I still think they should have ended the streak with that Triple H rematch. I remember there being a ton of hype for that one and people legitimately thinking Taker could lose. There was almost no buzz for this Lesnar match, and I don't think anyone thought Lesnar would actually win (judging from this topic that seems accurate). I mean, I guess that makes it a bigger twist, but at the same time it kind of devalues it because I'm sure most people went into the match not giving a shit.

Fans would be even more outraged if HHH would have ended it, that's for sure..

I'll give them this, the build for this match, while it still could have been better, sure was pretty damn good considering the result they were going with.. No doubt they wanted the shock value that they got from it. Nobody expected it. It having almost no buzz made it that much more shocking..

The only reason people thought it would end is because HHH has a habit of inserting himself in big matches to cement his career. The guy is Top 25, but thinks he belongs in the top 5. People believed he could pull backstage around and get them to write him in as the winner. Taker lost, the streak died...only to become mortal and face Sting. :D

Doubtful, but I can dream. In all honesty he pretty much just gets beat up all match only to bail himself out at the end. He has worked with some pretty good talent the last 5 matches, and that covered up his age. Lesnar was all about pure brute force.

Side note: Does anyone else think Taker is legitimately sick? He looks so thin last night it was eerie, & that was even before he stood next to Brock.

Disagree. Not saying it had to be Roman Reigns, but an up & coming heel (Bray Wyatt, for example) could have ended it.

I know Taker might be a different animal altogether & there's different circumstances, but Shawn Michaels stayed a face for the rest of his career after "retiring" Ric Flair..

1. See Matty's permaheel post. Brock Lesnar is the only person who can be a permaheel that Taker wanted to lose to. You ruin a young guy's career with having to burden ending the streak.
2. Shawn Michaels stayed a face because that match was face v face. Retiring, and streak are two different things. Taker has been, for a while, a permaface. You can't go face v face versus Taker because the person trying to end the streak becomes heel on the notion alone.

Never said you could go face vs face with Taker at Mania, just pointing out that wrestling fans forget eventually, and the real wrestling fans who come out around WrestleMania time care about 1 thing only, guys who can actually wrestle & guys they appreciate.

Put a young up & coming heel out there who can talk vs Taker and have him end the streak & he is instantly made & instantly a top heel in the company. If you ever want to turn him face, his good mic skills come in handy.

There's always ways around everything in wrestling. Hell, just a couple months ago, people were talking about hijacking Raws because of them letting Punk walk. Now, there's been maybe 2 or 3 short "C.M Punk" chants over the past few weeks combined, and only 1 short one at the biggest show of the year.

If it was Taker's call, I have no problem with it, even though I disagree that it should've been Brock.

No way should a part timer have ended it. Brock is already made, already established, and is barely around.

It was Taker's want in 2010, before either of the HHH matches, before Punk dropped a pipebomb. Brock Lesnar is a star for a reason. Him versus Daniel Bryan wouldn't be insane, but incredible. Don't forget he went 60 with Angle. On Smackdown.

I would pay infinite amounts of money for Bryan v Lesnar in an Ironman match.

I understand it was Taker's intent back in 2010, I'm the one that posted the article :chuckles:

No doubt, you let Taker get what he wants.. I'm just saying I disagree with him.

Nothing against Lesnar at all, I know how talented he is & how awesome a program with Bryan would/will be, but he didn't need to end the streak to have an amazing program with Bryan.

You said it yourself, he's already an established star. Between that & Heyman talking for him, the program with Bryan would be amazing without him ending the streak. He didn't need to.

They could've used this to build another star..

That being said, again, you give Taker what he wants, no doubt about that..

Beating the streak wouldn't build a star, though. It would legitimately hinder a new guy because he'd ALWAYS carry the baggage of ending the streak. Lesnar can handle that. Not a single new guy could.

I would also argue that it almost had to be an established guy to end the streak. Not because I don't think Wyatt or Ambrose or whoever couldn't handle it the rest of their careers, but what if they flame out?

If they flame out and never get as over as you thought they would, then you look back in history and you have the Undertaker's streak being broken by some nobody. Now, this is a different situation, but remember when they were pushing Fandango last year, and he faced Jericho at Wrestlemania? He's not doing anything now.

It was important for Taker's legacy to lose to a guy that will for sure go down as one of the most dominant guys in WWE's history.

I just watched Punk/Lesnar at Summerslam. Wow. Amazing match.

I want to see Lesnar Bryan. And I want Lesnar to toss him around like a rag doll for 30 minutes. Suplex after suplex after powerbomb after F5. Fuck a title match. I want Lesnar to beat the streak and destroy the Champ. Shit all over the WWE and take the belts on your way up the ramp. They (Authority) didn't give him a title shot so he destroyed the cornerstone of Wrestlmania. Finish it and destroy the champ.

Best moment for me during the Bray/Cena match was the whole crowd singing "He's got the whole world in his hands" and Bray joining in.

Also, Fandango during the battle royal doing his dance on the outside gave me a good laugh.

Fandango. Lol. That was brilliant. He was so proud of himself .

Forgot about Wyatt being a maestro. That was great as well.

Kofi's spot was pretty cool. Like always. I wish Ziggler had a better elimination. His best was 2 years ago when he spent most of the match on the apron. Tries to hit Shaemus(?) With a jumping DDT and gets tossed out.

Cesaro tossing out Big Show with ease was the best thing I saw all night, that was amazing

People thought Shawn would forever be known as the "guy who screwed Bret". He did ok after that. Same with him retiring Flair. Then there's the Punk example. There's ways to manipulate the fans without them knowing it. It happens all the time. Fans forget.

And how is giving the guy legit, real heat "hindering" them?

If it's a guy who can talk well enough & work in the ring well enough, the fans will end up loving him in the end.
