Four Team Deal Sends Howard to Lakers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

the poison pill $15 million 3rd year really kills teams in the Luxury tax. The bulls would be paying $20 million + in tax by keeping He, Boozer and Noah together in 3 years. If the Rockets didn't include the back loaded year I'm 100% sure they would match Asik's deal.

Ah Poison pills. Made Nate Burleson way richer than he should be.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

I think the cavs were being used as leverage to get Houston to up the anti. I don't think Houston will get Howard but I think they replace us in this three team deal and end up with Bynum.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

One other question for Rico, if you are still reading...

I have a theory that Dallas gift wrapped Tyler Zeller to the Cavs just to screw over the Rockets. Think about it, everyone knew that Houston thought highly of Zeller, and he was likely going to Houston at pick 12, then they grab Lamb. Everyone thinks, okay Lamb could have been drafted higher than 12, so whatever. Then pick #16 rolls around, and Houston unexpectedly takes White. At this point, they are sitting there with the 18th pick and the player they liked all along is ripe for the taking with Houston's last pick. Then suddenly, The Mavs screw Houston over by taking Zeller just to trade him to Cleveland for the pu pu platter.

Are Houston fans talking about that Dallas trade at all?

We figured as much on draft night, but we're all pretty happy with our draft haul.

Fullcourt and/or Rico:

Do you guys think Lamb and White were specifically targeted to be in a deal with Orlando? That has been the rumor for weeks...

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

So with the new CBA, teams trading for impending free agents are basically just trading for their bird rights ??!! ( Due to the incentive of inking a new deal rather than sign an extension ?)

If this is the case, teams looking to move a free agent should not expect to get 100% value(demands) back.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

His wording was fuzzy enough to not preclude that. If Bynum signed an extension after being traded to the Cavs we would have him locked up for the next 3 seasons.

Anyway, the value of the extra year is a bit nebulous if the player in question has a good shot at staying healthy enough to sign another max deal. And the tradeoffs in risk are numerous:

What if he suffers a career ending injury this season?
What's the optimal age for him to sign his last max deal?

The year to year raises are potentially a bigger deal, because assuming he can keep inking max deals, they're what will limit what he ultimately gets paid.

A 6 month wait is required to get that 3rd year. He is pretty clearly talking about an extension as a condition of the trade, which has a 2 year limit.

Just how well-documented is it exactly that the Rockets "wanted" Zeller other than a few articles that have mentioned it when talking about how the Rockets drafted for Orlando? And why would Dallas want to do this? I know they're in the same state, conference, and division (I think), but would it have been worth it to do the trade they did fr that reason? Dallas did draft some pretty shitty players though with those picks, I thought.

Houston needed a center (obviously, since they just overpaid for Asik) and reports leading up to the draft pointed towards Zeller.

Tyler Zeller « CBS Houston

What Reeko mentioned regarding Dallas's interest in White would explain why they seemed to draft and trade Zeller to the Cavs on the cheap out of spite alone.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

I was initially lukewarm about the trade up for Zeller but am now happy the Cavs ended up with him. It's a much better use of capspace than spending an extra 20+ million for Asik over the next 3 years. Zeller likely has a much bigger upside than Asik too.

I think we just went BPA. All 3 players we picked up have question marks with high upside. We have traded away our entire team, and Orlando looks to be rebuilding. We are both basically in the market for the same things. Position doesn't matter to teams at the bottom, talent is talent.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

I apologize if this is a stupid question, but with the rockets rookies not having been signed yet, aren't they taking a HUGE risk playing in summer league ball injury and thus contract wise?

I think it's pretty common practice. Same as NFL rookies participating in OTA's. They draw the line at training camp.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

fullcourt, when do you think the rockets or the rockets/lakers will convince orlando to put pen to paper? have you stopped waiting at this point, or are you just hoping that the asik signing helps finalize things asap?
