Four Team Deal Sends Howard to Lakers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

Considering he will be an unrestricted FA, and the Nets wont be allowed to do a sign and trade under the new CBA, and that Howard is going to laugh in their face end of the the week (when they beg him play out the year), this can't be going any worse. It has taken them months to do a coaching search and they still can't decide after interviewing each guy 4 times. Hennigan is delaying the rebuild and just showing he is unprofessional. What a complete disaster!

This can't be life...

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

I'm sure that extending this as far as possible will work out perfectly.

I cannot wait for Dwight to have to play with the Magic at home this year - that first game will be a night mare.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

In the same sense, its moronic because its delaying their inevitable rebuild an entire year. But who knows of these offers were legit

This is what confuses me. They have so many bad contracts, not even close to a title, why not press the reset button. Unless this is some move to try and get better offers it makes no sense. Plus, if they end up caving it makes the new GM look bad. Not a good start for the GM, sound like a young buck trying to be smarting then the rest of his peers.

Oh I am sure that back wont be ready if he is still on the team. He might need the whole year to rehab.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

According to the Magic forums... Dwight intends to tell Hennigan "there is no way he is putting on a Magic uni this season" Hennigan will try to convince him it will be easier to trade him in Feb (this is luncay) and that worst case they are willing to do a sign and trade next July to what ever team Dwight wants to go to that has cap space. Oh and Hennigan may want to reopen the coaching search:chuckles:

I am at a lost of words. What the hell is Hennigan doing? He thinks a sign and trade next July is going to fetch a great package. Guy has lost it! If I am the Magic Owener I may fire him before the end of the summer. Anyone with a clue that follows the NBA know the Magic need to rebuild. They blow a chance to clear cap space and dont get a top 4 pick next year with this trade and it sets the franchise back another set of multiple years

This GM is stupid. Take the deal, save face to the fanbase, and start the rebuild. His chips will run dry if he wait until next summer.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

I'm not going to presume to know what Morey plans to do once he gets Dwight, but I doubt the plan is to have him and a bunch of guys on rookie contracts. Also, sign and trading him is most likely off the table, since he can only earn as much as he would signing outright with another team, and teams over the cap can't receive players in a S&T. The new CBA forces players to walk away from A LOT of money if they want to play elsewhere. Deron was the first max player to test free agency since it was signed, and he stayed put. I wouldn't be so sure that Dwight will walk away from the money either, especially when all the big market teams don't have the cap room to sign him.
Teams over the cap can do sign and trades. It is only teams over the tax apron who can't receive a player in a sign and trade. Also, the receiving team might be willing to do a trade instead if it allows them the option not to renounce a player. Like if Dwight was a FA this summer, the Nets could have traded Lopez, Humph and picks for Dwight, which would have allowed them to keep Wallace.

Agreed, and that keeps open possibilities for S&T's. In terms of Howard, though, both the Nets and Lakers are above the luxury tax apron ($74.3M), which makes it problematic for two of the teams who want to be in this mix.

You're correct, but like wuck points out, my point was that the two teams he wants to go to cannot receive him in a S&T.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

This has to be posturing. I refuse to believe Hennigan would do this...too many cons. Upset fan base, hurt draft position, potentially limit trade partners, etc.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

Hennigan is an idiot.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

People around here are so eager to call any reporter a bullshitter, yet when they say something about the Magic, Hennigan is an idiot? You can't pick and choose what to believe. Either its all BS, or none of it is. I'm leaning toward all of it.

Fact is, Hennigan is just trying to get the best deal possible. I doubt he's intentionally leaking anything to the media. People were saying the same things about Ujiri because he refused to take the first offer for Carmelo, even though Melo made it clear he was NY-bound. Ujiri held out and ended up getting quite a haul for Melo. This is essentially the same thing.
