With the Cavaliers having a couple of kinks in their roster currently, will we see any moves from our office to iron them out before the deadline? We have the usual candidates of Sasha Pavlovic and Luke Jackson of being on the block with limited time behind both Hughes and James, but we are unlikely to see anything happen until we have a healthy Ira Newble. The same could be added with Drew Gooden, who is mentioned frequently as possible departee via a trade. Surely though again, nothing will be done until Anderson Varejao is 100% healthy.

Now I am not one for rash trades, but my thoughts here are for the future moreso then the present. I will say firstly I do not want to trade Luke, Sasha or Gooden until Ura and Varejao return. Now when it comes to moving Pavlovic or Jackson, it will hard to get back and even amount of "potential". Right now, neither player would likely have a great deal of value with Luke possibly getting us a late first rounder back at best. With that in mind I would not want to trade either of them on their own as we are likely going to get the short end of the deal.

Moving onto Drew Gooden. As we all know, Drew has raised him game up a level this season with his defense being the most obvious area of growth. His enthusiasm on the court is unmatched by any other Cavalier (Varejao would challenge him when healthy), which is vital to keeping energy levels high in this squad. However Drew's development could backfire on the Cavalier's. As we all know Gooden is off contract come season end, and with every solid ballgame, his contract demands rise. This is very important to Cleveland as we will have the luxury tax to concern ourselves with in the coming years, and a big contract to Drew could push us over the edge. Gilbert isn't shy about spending money, but there will be a limit.

Should the Cavalier's keep Drew Gooden and hope his contract demands a reasonable?

Or do the Cavalier's bite the bullet and look for something in return via a trade this season?

We also have the possibility of sign and trades next summer.

Personally I want to keep Drew Gooden, and it would be great to have the luxury of having two developing swingmen in Jackson and Pavlovic. But with Varejao looking like a great possible replacement, and limited time behind LeBron and Larry, we may need to look at some moves to shore up other areas like point guard and backup center. What could a combination of Gooden and Pavlovic / Jackson get us in return? If it gets a point guard in return, can we find a taker for Snow in this deal?

Your thoughts..........

we won't be making any trades in the near future. trading in the nba is like filing income taxes. most people wait until april 15.

trades are complicated to pull off and require matching salaries with the salary cap issues. it is much easier to fire the coach like we did last year.

Drew Gooden for Leandro Barbaso.

Gooden fits Phoenix's system to a tee and would look great in a running game with Marion at SF and Amare at C. Gooden and Marion would make up for Amare's lack of rebounding

Barbaso plays decent D and is a wonderful offensive player: almost as quick as T. Parker and can hit the long ball. Not a great playmaker but with Hughes and Lebron won't have to concentrate on creating for others. In addition would be playing with his Brazilian NT partner AV.

I can't see the Cavs making any big moves this season. There probably won't be any moves until the offseason. There have already been a ton of roster changes and I think the front office wants to give these guys a full chance to play together and find out exactly what they have.
Gooden is too important to the Cavs now to deal and has a good chance to resign here.

If any deal gets made it will be a smaller one involving one of the 2 young SG/SF's. I think Sasha is the most likely to go. I've been a fan of his and thought he had good potential but I'm starting to cool on him. It's his 3rd year and he still looks like a rookie and lost out there at times. Maybe he just needs a chance to get consistent minutes but that won't happen here. Jackson looks more comfortable on the court and he still hasn't even played 30 games in his career.
I wouldn't have a problem trading Sasha at this point. The Cavs won't get much in return but should be able to get a young prospect at a position where there's more of a need--a young PG prospect or young big man prospect.

I would deal av way before even considering trading Drew. People fall in love with their home grown talent. Drew has been solid as a rock this season while av has only proven he can be instant energy off the bench. I know it sounds like im selling av a little short but his offensive game isnt even close to drews and defensively he is pretty much relying on pure energy and hustle. Drew does all these things and is plain and simple a better player.

Drew is playing right now like he deserves to be in the Cavs long term plans. He's the right age and has the right amount of skill to fit very well with what the Cavs want to do. Give the guy some stability and a coach and he should improve. I don't see any major trades happening this season. Gooden for Barbosa would be a decent call, but that would leave too many point guards and not enough big men. Right now, Snow and Damon are comboing pretty well. Barbosa isn't going to be able to gurad Tony Parker either anyhow

Drew's talent is undeniable. It's not the question here though, the reason why we would consider trading him. It's the fact that he's up for a contract year, and we might not want to pay him what he wants, depending on what that is. Would you pay him 6 year, 60 mil? Dunno about that. Now that he's put it together, I can see a team offering him something in that range to set free his offensive skills in a first, second option role. It all depends on if he wants to take a pay cut to remain in a great situation or if he wants stardom. The most we'd be able to afford is around 8 mil a year, so in all it would be 6 year, 45-50 mil.

If I were him, I'd take a 3 year deal at 20-25 mil, what we'd probably offer him, succeed here, then grab a near max deal in his prime. That's what Hughes did, I believe, and look where he is now.

it is not too often that a team trades a power forward for a smallish shooting guard. barbosa looks awesome at times, but he did not flourish when the suns dumped marbury to the knicks. the suns went on to lose a ton of games that year and only improved when they got nash the next season. barbosa is not strong enough of a player to weaken the front line, which is what would happen with gooden gone. marshall is too prone to injury if he has to play heavier minutes.

and who on our team speaks portuguese?

lyXo got this smack on. This is not about how good Drew Gooden has become. It is about can we afford to keep him with his contract demands rising with very solid performance. We have a luxury tax to worry about in the next few years. Going over the top to sign Drew could lead to salary dumping trades down the line.

Karma,.,personally ..I love the upside Drew's game has, and think down the road that he could be a special player in this league. But, he's also not the perfect fit for this team ...what I'm saying is that what he can do, and what we ask of him aren't in parallel universes. He has more potential ..mre growth to his game ...and what he can add and gains that he can make to his overall game, we may never ask of him or need from him. His weaknesses are areas that we are most lacking ....what I'm saying is ...he's a talent ...a talent we can use and utilize ....but ....we may not be the perfect match for him, as a team ....and he may not be the perect match for us, as a player. My perfect type player, for this team ...would be a more physical power forward with some 'nasty' in his game ...a guy that can be more of an enforcer in the paint ...and one that knows what to do and when to do it in terms of 'help' defense. And what we could use less of is some of Drew's god given talents offensively. Because we just don't ever ask of him anything in that regard. Mike Brown himself said that they have not run one offensive play for him all year ...so there you go ...

I honestly think that if Ferry can find a trade match that would work ...he would be interested in making that move ...and there are teams out there with offensively limited centers, that could use a PF that has Drew's overall skill set. Moreso than us ...

This is just my opinion ...and feel for the situation. I haven't ever heard anything in this regard ...just to be perfectly clear...

I think there's a good chance Gooden sticks around. If he did get traded it wouldn't happen until the summer and would depend on his contract demands. I'd think he'd want to stay with the Cavs and with a great situation for him.

Barbosa does have talent but there's is question as to whether he's a real natural PG. This year he's been more at SG for the Suns. You also have to wonder what effect the Suns system has on his play this year.

I'd still say Sasha would be the most likely Cav to be traded at some point. I can't see a future for him here. Sasha wouldn't have a ton of value right now but like I wrote earlier the Cavs might be able to get a young prospect and one at a position where there's a bigger need like at PG or a C or C/PF.
I came up with some possible names that he could be traded for. It could also be possible that Sasha's potential would be worth more than what they could get for him.

Sasha to Boston for Marcus Banks

to the Lakers for Sasha Vujacic (can play PG)

to New Orleans for Maciej Lampe (young C/PF prospect)

to Memphis for PG Antonio Burks

to Toronto for the rights to Roko Ukic (young European PG drafted this year)

to Washington for Andray Blatche

I wouldn't mind trading him to the Spurs for Beno Udrih but I doubt the Spurs do that.

Again, Sasha's value isn't the highest right now and the Cavs are deep at the positions he plays so trading him for another young player at a positon of greater need might make sense.

Add to that list:

To Portland for Jarret Jack

That would be a great trade IMO, for both teams, really.

I would trade Luke for jarret Jack, Luke is a hometown kid there and they love him. Although who runs the point behind Telfair now and what do we do with Jack since Snow and Joens see significant minutes on this squad?
