Game 37 | Cavaliers (27-9) @ Spurs (34-6) | January 14th, 2016 | 8:00pm EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The bench players were not the problem. Delly and Shump played better than most of the starters. The big problems were that Kyrie and Love played like matadors, JR disappeared after the first, and TT could grab a board when it counted. I would start Shump and up Delly's minutes, until Kyrie is really back. JR's offense helps the second unit more than the first.
SA bench 32p
Cavs bench 12
And yea our bench wasn't the problem!

Again look at the whole picture, yes there bench did score more but they almost played 16 more mins then ours.

I feel like a lot of posters watched a different game than I did. The Cavs had a double digit lead for most of the first half. They only lost by 4, while the Spurs beat people by about 17 at home. And that was WITH:

Kyrie on a min restriction
Kyrie had a poor shooting night
17 turnovers
Only 11 FTAs vs. 22 for SAS
5th game of a 6 game road trip (I thought they got tired and sloppy in the second half due to this)
A turn back the clock game by David West (+13, 5-7 shooting)
A speed forward the clock game from RJ (0-3, -12)
Mozgov still finding his form
Mo not with the team due to a death in family (he may not have played anyways but still)

And they only lost by 4?! And had a real shot to win, just needed the $82MM man to get a rebound off of a missed FT?

There is no reason to think the Cavs can't win a series against the Spurs. Can the Spurs also win? Of course! Don't be ridiculous. But we are right there with them. We have the pieces, it's all about executing.

Very encouraging game. We are right there! If there were 2 more minutes I believe the Cavs would have won. With two top team, it's a game of runs and the Spurs had theirs at the right time early in the 4th.

We are going to the Finals, and this time we just may win.

you have any idea how much shit i got when I pointed out that we got mo williams and they got david west?

i wont grave dig the summer, but holy shit

I still felt hopeful, 24 hours ago. But Mo and RJ are really turning out to be liabilities. And who KNOWS what Kaun can do? Only Cunningham is contributing (when he's allowed). Really too bad. The Spurs fully reloaded, and we stocked up on schlock.

JR had a good start and got benched by the refs on some very questionable calls. We had good looks to start the game.. Then we went isolation heavy.. I'm not sure what you mean?

JR bricked 3 open threes in the second quarter, before he got into foul trouble. He had already ceased to be a factor.

I think you misunderstood (which is alright, because my wording kinda sucked). My post wasn't directed at Shump or Delly. But...

Mozgov was atrocious and has been a liability all year, and I personally feel there were key moments in the game where he helped the momentum swing to the Spurs with stupid fouls and turnovers. RJ was shit.

Yes, Irving was bad. Love stopped getting touches again after the first quarter thanks to hero ball, and his defense was poor.

You won't win very many games when your bench is outscored 35-12, though.

We really need one more guy.

This is ridiculous. Is Markeiff Morris going to cure 17 TOs, bad shots in traffic, isolations, etc? No. We have the best Cavs team of all time. We have enough to win. The players need to execute.

Chris Parker with a great column today.

To win the NBA Championship they’ll almost definitely have to win a road playoff game against a team of the Warriors or Spurs caliber. Right now this team doesn’t look capable.

They look close, but lack the focus, intensity and discipline to get it done down the stretch. That’s disappointing, but there is still plenty of time for that to change. The fact that it always seems to come down to the same issues is even more disconcerting because it starts one wondering whether they might be implacable facets of this team’s personality.

We’re not there yet. We still believe this team has the character, and will develop the grittiness to stand up when the Spurs (and let’s be honest, the refs) push them down. The complaining really needs to stop because it accomplishes nothing and feels like a ready excuse for failure not the accountability one expects from a champion.

The Cavaliers continue to improve and perhaps these continued failures are the constant inspiration the team needs. They’ve climbed a few rungs, and can hang with the big boys (which we sort of expected after the Finals run), but don’t look solid enough to put the highest caliber teams away on the road. Yet.

We almost won vs GSW, we almost won vs SA..... Yea almost, but but we didn't!

We didn’t almost beat the Warriors on Christmas...at least not how I remember it.

Would have been a different game if our guys (Lebron and KI) would have been able to execute when we got them mismatched against one of their bigs.

Have to work on that for the next time we play the Spurs

It was a two possession game. We missed a lot of open looks. They certainly didn't soundly beat us if that is what you are peddling here

Do you think we could turn some of our garbage into a useful piece like Kaun and Mo to LAL for Brandon Bass? That's the least Byron can do for us.

Interesting thought. But I DO think we need another big, because I don't think Moz is coming around. I think this is who he is.

Tried to work a trade including renting sorry Hibbert for a championship run. But I think that's only swingable on a buyout.

I don't know what to CALL Moz, since he should be starting, but is too much of a liability to do that. In an ideal world, we would start Kyrie-Shump-Bron-Love-Moz and have Delly, JR, RJ, Mo, and Cunningham as guards off the bench, and TT, AV, and Kaun off the bench as bigs.

With Moz sucking and Shump hurt, we've had to start TT and JR. And RJ, Mo, and AV have been useless as teats on a boarhog. So our bench is depleted. Our bench was supposed to be better, but I guess we can only get washed-up guys at the end of their careers. RJ and Mo = Matrix and Mike Miller = Jamison and Shaq. Why is it that other teams can get contributions from wily veterans, but not us?
