Don't play like crap and maybe you won't get benched in the 4th, when needed the most. I like Scott's logic. Come on guys, it's not like beating the Pistons tonight would get us anywhere. We're tanking right now and who cares? Better to teach our young guys now when we don't need the wins, opposed to the next few years when we may really NEED a win.

It makes no sense. How can you defend Scott for not playing Kyrie, when he didn't play Tristan either, who was having a great game

He's a head coach sending a message to his team ...anybody whose played knows what is going down right now in the locker room ...they are, collectively, getting their asses chewed out.

If that were the message, you'd think he'd play the players that were playing D and were having a good game. Not playing them isn't sending a message... makes no sense.

Think it's safe to say that it's exactly what happened.

"I take full responsibility for my lackluster play and it trickled down to everybody else. It just can’t happen. It’ll never happen again, I guarantee that,” Irving said. “My energy wasn’t there. It was there in the first quarter, then the second and third I was disinterested. That just can’t happen.”

Irving said he wasn't upset with the officials.

"Different plays in the game were mind boggling for me," Irving said. "Just specific plays on the defensive and offensive end just kind of pissed me off."

Personally, I thought it was simply saving our guys for tomorrow at home vs. the Thunder. But maybe it was them thinking ahead and the coach getting pissed off about it? What do I know?

I don't know what game you were watching, but no starter, not 1, played good defense. Sure, Tristan played well on offense and his stat sheet looks nice, but he was constantly losing his man after showing on screens, getting smoked by Maxiell and Monroe, taking the wrong man on give and go's, etc. I am happy as hell Byron benched all of the starters because even I could see they were giving absolutely no energy on defense, and to be honest I hope he starts the bench tomorrow, not happening but the message must be sent loud and clear. These past 2 weeks the starters defense has been awful and the bench keeps bailing them out and making the game close towards the end, so who should really be awarded with more playing time? Fact is the Cavs are a young team and when the youngins aren't there mentally, you do exactly what Byron did tonight. Otherwise this type of shit defense, individual and team, will become second nature to them because they feel there are no repercussions to only giving a shit about the offensive side of the ball. That's how you become the Monta Ellis/Steph Curry Warriors.

Again

They should be punished as a group

The players need to hold each other accountable or they all suffer. KI plays shit D Waiters, TT or someone else should say something and vice versa. Why do you think Bostons D was so good after KG got there..he wouldn't let other players get away with faking D.

It's a very simple lesson and one that isn't taught a lot because a coach usually doesn't have the luxury to do so. Scott has that luxury and is using it. It will be of benefit down the road when the games matter.

When Scott spoke to the press a few minutes ago ..after keeping the press out of the locker room for a decent amount of time while he spoke with the team ...it was very clear that he saw no sense in putting players back on the court that made it clear the game wasn't that important to them based on the effort he saw them giving. It's safe to say that benching the starters the entire 4th quarter, even when they got the lead down to single digits with around six minutes left, was a message being sent to certain players. I'll give him credit, he didn't single out the glaring offender.. by making it the entire starting unit he saved the main player at issue from having to wear the scarlet letter.

benching the whole unit for one guy playing really baldy and the other 4 mediocre. ridiculous. its not like this teams motto is all for one. one for all or anything like that.

I think it was the smartest way to handle it myself. I think we all know who the main culprit is here,... it's just reaching a point where something needed to be done more than what they have been trying to do to rectifiy it man to man. So, now it's going to benching ...He's doing it now by making it the entire starting unit. Hopefully that does the trick, it if has to go much further to get the message across, then we may have a bigger problem on our hands than I truly foresee.

Kyrie is this team's leader on the court ...maybe he's just not ready for that at this point in his development. But, he's right now a very good shooting guard. I'd like to see him develop into a true point guard, and a player that can lead by the effort he shows on both ends of the court. He has to to reach his potential. Lebron in his second year was a poor defender as well ...something we have to understand. Kyrie may not have the natural ability to become as strong defensively as Lebron has become, but he has it in him to play smart and aggressive defense which is what we ask of him.

Maybe it was just the entire starting line-up? They played like horse shit collectively.

Well, I'm going to be "that guy" and say that I was incredibly impressed with Drummond tonight, although he is absolutely horrid from the foul line. He already is a presence down low that you have to worry about when driving to the hole. 4-4 shooting with nine points in eighteen minutes and five boards.

Looking back, I really do wish we would of taken Drummond. I know it wasn't the pick anybody really wanted, but had we done this, we'd have our center, power forward, and point guard for the next decade, and we would of had those three other picks because we wouldn't of had to bother trading up for the Pillsbury Dough Boy.

I like Waiters. I think he has a ton of potential. I just don't like having him next to Kyrie. Whenever they are together, they just don't seem to play well. There's plenty of time to learn though, so I'm hoping things will get better with time. I do know one thing though, Monroe and Drummond is going to be damn scary another year or two from now.

Re: Game 47: Cleveland Cavaliers @ Detroit Pistons | February 1st, 2013 | 7:30 PM [ES

it was clearly a message to the team . your not just accountable for how you play but how you play as a group. The winning streak was nice but they all involved t he team playing like crap and then putting an effort to scrape out a win by coming back. which is good that a team can rally like that but bad that they continued to put themselves in that position.
If they were down and putting in sufficient effort im sure scott would of put them back in.

I was at the game tonight. Kyrie and Dion were the biggest defensive liabilities I have ever seen. Knight and Stuckey were abusing them. Alonzo Gee has absolutely no offensive game. Kyle Singler looked like liked a way better player than Gee. Tyler Zeller, as usual, looked like a terrified little girl out there. The whole crowd erupted when he missed that alley oop. It was hilarious.

I think TT should drive to the hoop more. He is very, very fast for his size. He doesn't look that fast on TV but he can really just blow by his defenders. Too bad he doesn't have a jumpshot like Monroe.

And my god Andre Drummond is a monster. I was 100% okay on taking Waiters over Drummond at the draft because I thought Drummond wouldn't be worth the risk, but now I'm not so sure. That guy is scary. He literally just controls the paint and muscles everyone out of the way. I don't doubt that he could be like a 2009 version D12 type player someday.

Also, I have to give Fred and Austin a ton of credit for making this team semi-watchable. Not hearing them getting super excited after every Cavs bucket makes this team an abortion to watch.

At least Detroit was entertaining.

Well I went to the game tonight and have a much different view than you guys hahaha I was really pissed that Scott didn't play any of the starters in the fouth quarter. Like seriously, I came just to see Irving and the Cavs fight in the fourth quarter, and I didn't get a lickin' of that taking place... Irving looked ticked off from the pre-game to the end of the game, where he was eventually just sitting all the way back on the bench, not even watching the game, clearly ticked as hell. I was really ticked too, Kyrie, trust me...

BTW Speights looked really good and like he was in control of the offense on the floor. I wouldn't mind keeping him around if his contract doesn't suck, but idk it.
