Game #48| Cavs @ Knicks| Wednesday Feb. 4th, 2009| 7:30pm [ET]

first off dope user name, welcome to RCF.

but yeah that's what kobe condoms do....attempt to discredit lebron around every turn because they're a) threatened by his greatness at such a young age and b) bitter that he is the face of the league and not kobe.

thanks man. true that, it will make the whoopin we give them on the 8th even more enjoyable. I can't wait.

The defense was the biggest problem, no doubt. We had collapses and mismatches and didn't really shore anything up during the course of the game.

My gripe was with comparing this game with Kobe's and incriminating Kobe because he was me-first. LeBron's game was a better one, there we can agree. But the aforementioned reasoning is faulty.

I still almost can't believe this game. 52/10/11/2blk/steals? Man that is sick.

Lol this Knick fan is over on the realgm Cavs forums bitching because Lebron was playing the air guitar.

It's a road win on a back-to-back against a gimmick team. I'm for it regardless of how it worked out.

Cavs were shorthanded on the road, LeBron wanted to toy with the Knicks (but he played hard on defense frequently and also went to the basket more than usual), and his team ended up winning a game that will be remembered for a lot longer than the key stat: Cavs now 30 games over .500. He had some bad stretches but also made the key plays of the game on an assist and by getting to the line. It was crystal clear that the Cavs could run their offense more smoothly when he was out of the game, but also that they weren't scoring while doing it. Neither team buckled down on defense.

If LeBron wants to have fun like that once in awhile, I don't really have a problem with it. I'm actually surprised he doesn't do it more often. It's a long season and a long career. And it was a massive performance that wasn't just about scoring. If he keeps going after a ME-SHOW offense for multiple games, or if the Cavs lose because of a petty scoring duel with Kobe on Sunday, then it's a problem.

But tonight, they got a road win. LeBron grabbed headlines. Cavs have a well-deserved 3 days off so that Wally can get his legs replaced, Z can continue to recover, and Sasha can get over the flu.

I would have taken that before the game, and am more than happy to enjoy (or be relieved by) what happened tonight. LeBron looked like a pro out there having fun in a high school game. He deserves to enjoy his greatness once in awhile.

Thanks to thewuck for pointing out that we are now 30 games over .500. That got me thinking... we only need to go:

a) 19-15 (.558) over our final 34 to set a franchise record of 58 wins... a mere formality at this point
b) 21-13 (.617) to get to 60 wins... almost a lock
c) 26-8 (.764) to get to 65 wins... definitely possible
d) 31-3 (.911) to get to 70 wins... we can dream can't we?

I predicted 58 wins this year and they will surely blow that out of the water. When you take a step back and admire the body of work so far, it really is impressive. Not to mention we've almost played 60% of the regular season and still haven't suffered a losing streak. Wow.

Nice stat-work. [Insert clever "neat-o stats are now up" plug here].

I'm glad I am no longer a big-time stats guy anymore... because I was sincerely concerned that your head might explode for the past 30 minutes. :chuckles:

Nice stats. Just don't start a 'magic number' thread with them. :)

I think that big picture thinking is necessary for the whole regular season, whether after bad losses or problematic wins. The bottom line is that the team is having a remarkable season. At the rate they're going, every game is setting a new record for best start in Cavs history (they were 37-12 in 1988-1989 at this point in the season). I respect 70 wins even more - hard to fathom. But not losing 2 games in a row is also virtually unfathomable.

Developing bad habits would be an unfortunate result of tonight's game but I see what happened more as a statistical anomaly, and one that allowed LeBron to revel being the best player in the word.

And I just wanted them to win in as ugly a manner as possible with the back to back...

Beat L.A. !!!!

Wally tells it like is with a little humor thrown in on LeBron:

"A pretty impressive triple-double... I bet his fantasy owners are pretty happy."

I was at the game tonight and wowzer, its was equal parts amazing and terrifying to watch... well maybe a little more amazing, but despite the great start, the Cavs let the Knicks stay in it the whole game and nobody could stop Al Harrington.. I dont want to be bitching about a win, and an AMAZING Lebron performance, i'm just saying, it was pretty nervewracking. It sure would have sucked if we lost this game! but we didnt, so i'll shut up and enjoy it haha

Side note, its pretty amazing how many stars come out to MSG. Off the top of my head they featured all these people on the jumbo tron at one point or another: Chris Rock, Whoopi Goldberg, Ciara, Adam Yauch of Beastie Boys, the dude from Black Crowes, and 5 of the NY Rangers... no sign of Hov or B
