Game Preview – Monday March 8, 2010 – San Antonio Spurs @ Cleveland Cavaliers
Well, the most recent win streak is over, but it comes with an asterik, as the Cavaliers played (and lost) their 1st game without their superstar, LeBron James on Saturday night, 92-85. However, a 7 point loss to a legitimate playoff team without the best player in the game & with your starting point guard shooting 3-17 from the field is absolutely nothing to sneeze at. The Cavaliers have still won 19 of their past 23 games & have still held their last 4 opponents to just 92.3 points per game.
The Milwaukee Bucks were the team to snap the Cavalier win streak at 6 games this time. Antawn Jamison stepped up big time for the Cavaliers, netting his 3rd double double as a Cavalier, as he shot 11-18 from the field for 30 points to go along with 11 rebounds, 5 steals & 4 triple hits. Delonte West came off the bench & kept the Clevelanders in the ball game the entire time, going off for a personal Cavalier high 27 points on 11-18 of his own shooting, with 4 rebounds & a block. Those 2 received no help from their teammates, however, as the rest of the crew shot just 12-41 (29.3%) from the field, including a 3-17 game from Mo Williams.
San Antonio meanwhile, won their 4th game in a row on Saturday night, defeating the Grizzlies in Memphis, 102-92. Richard Jefferson came off the bench to lead 6 Spurs in double figures with 18 points & 6 rebounds on 7-11 shooting, while Manu Ginobili & Tim Duncan pitched in 17 points apiece, with Ginobili adding 6 assists off the bench. Matt Bonner came off the bench & had his highest scoring night since the beginning of December, as he hit 4 from downtown for 13 points with 5 boards, as George Hill chipped in 11. DeJuan Blair added 10 points & 5 boards off the bench, as San Antonio’s bench outscored Memphis’, 66-15.
