Game Thread | Game #12 | Cavs @ Warriors | Nov. 11, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
- Warriors are 2nd in the league in 3PA per game.
- Draymond and Looney are smart extremely physical defenders with strong centers of gravity.
- Steph is a nightmare to guard.
- Tons of off ball movement.
- Wiggins is a long athletic wing.
- They switch readily on defense.

Basically the perfect recipe for a team that will give us major issues, regardless of how they've played this season. Mobley and Allen are going to have a brutal time against their frontcourt. Wiggins is going to love going up against LeVert. We have no defender to put on Steph. And their team takes a ton of threes while we give up a ton of them in our effort to lock down the paint. Our one hope is their bench is absolutely terrible while ours has been good, so if Love/Wade/Cedi get hot, we could punish them there.

Feel free to be mad at me over being pessimistic already, but we've lost 14 games in a row to these guys, and we very well could be looking at 15 in a row and a 3 game losing streak for the Cavs after tonight. I think regardless we'll rebound at home against Minnesota though, who have looked mediocre all season. You would also think Mitchell wants to get up for that game against Gobert.

Good God, get a grip. Mobley and Allen are gonna have a "brutal time" against their front court? Why would that be? Geez, how will Frobley ever deal with their "strong centers of gravity" lol? The horror!!! Come on, Jarrett and Evan are both much better than their counterparts from the Warriors, on paper. They score almost twice as much per game, 3X more blocks per game, and even 50% better on the glass. Ok, I didn't scale it for minutes. Whatever, doesn't matter, they're much better than these chumps.

Now, the PG/SF match-ups are concerning, I'll grant you this.

Going to be really tough. I don't care about a loss what I want to see is the effort on defense.

Because it isn’t length that Mobley and Allen struggle against. It’s oftentimes shorter strong physical bigs with veteran savviness.

If you thought Harris Barnes manhandled Mobley with his body…..wait until you see what Draymond does to him. And Draymond is bigger and stronger than Barnes!

Areas where Draymond has declined since last season:

Useage rate
Assist rate (from 33% to 22% of the W's field goals)
3-point percentage (now 30%)
Free throw percentage
Block percentage
Steal percentage
Offensive rebound percentage
Defensive rebound percentage
Fouls drawn, both shooting and non-shooting
Turnovers (more than last year)
Fouls committed percentage (higher than last year)

He has improved his shooting percentages at the rim and mid-range, but he only averages 7 shots per game so I don't know if shooting percentages are relevant. He's been more of a pick setter, passer, rebounder, and defender in his career and the numbers show a decline in assists, rebounds at both ends, steals, blocks, and 3-point shooting.

That being said, he knows all the dirty tricks of shoving and grabbing while screening his activities from the refs. I think Mobley (if he guards Mobley) will learn a lot from him.

If Garland is back to his normal self and LeVert plays like he did against the Kings (21 points, 10 boards) then I think the Cavs have a good shot against a 4-7 team. But with three days off the Dubs will have fresh legs and be bombing away from the outside while the Cavs are on the last day of a five-game road trip. Fortunately, the Cavs had a day off and only a short hop from Sacramento to deal with.

That’s my biggest worry! The way we played the three point line here in Sac if we do the same tomorrow night we will get blown out!

Longer leash with the bench. Please. Wade needs to be a minimum 20 minutes a night guy. Even on bad nights.

Osman, at least on this current team, needs to be at minimum 18 minutes a night.

Neto needs to get 10.

I wanna see some improvement in this area and quickly. JBB isn't a rookie coach. He's had enough time to figure this out.

Also, I wanna see evidence that this current starting 5 can defend.

We could defend when LeVert was playing a guard and Wade was on the wing.

We haven't defended since Garland returned and Wade was put on the bench. I'm not sure I believe we can. I need to see it first.

The more we get the ball out of Draymond's hands the better. Make Wiggins and Klay into playmakers if you can.

Last year LeVert made 44% of his short mid-range shots. The year before was 43%. This year he's at 28%. However, even if he gets back to his norm of 44% - that's not good. We won't win hitting 44% of our 2-point shots.

The last two years Caris is shooting 62-63% at the rim, which is consistent with his career. This year he's at 50%. IMO Caris should try to get to the rim as much as possible since he's shooting almost 20% higher than on mid-range shots for his career. Get the layup or draw a foul. Even at his best the short pull-up jumper only goes down 44% of the time.

Garland was sick on Wednesday so the "get his head out of his ass" remark was uncalled for. If anybody had his head up his ass it was Bickerstaff for playing him 34 minutes when he was clearly not OK and was 1-for-9 with 6 turnovers. Has JBB lost that much confidence in Neto? What about moving Mitchell to the 1, LeVert to the 2, and giving Wade or Cedi more minutes?

We've seen Garland suck in the first half and then get hot in the second, so maybe that's what JBB was expecting.
Wow. That's the first I've heard that Garland was sick. That explains his off night.

That said, if JB asked Garland, "Are you able to play?" and Garland said, "Yes," JB would play him.
