Game Thread | Game #58 | Cavs @ Pelicans | Feb. 10, 2023

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I can’t wait to see the Cavaliers at Wells Fargo on Wednesday. I’m behind the Cavaliers bench.

There’s a lot of comments about scary Mobley will be in the future. I agree but he’s pretty damn good right now. In transition his handles are damn good and he’s got all kinds of offensive moves in the paint. Defensively he’s DPOY candidate already.

I’m starting to think we have a chance to do some serious damage in the playoffs.

I know he's only 25, but I think we know who Ingram is and he isn't going to be a 25+ wing unless he is on a shit team that let's him shoot all he wants. He's a nice player, not a star you can build a team around
I still think I would trade Allen for Ingram. Definitely think about it. Don't know why they would do that though. Just thinking of ways to upgrade our wings.

To build on this the only other 3 players in league history... Kevin Johnson, Steph and Dame... This dude is a fucking troll/idiot... The past few weeks I believe it was Mobley was a bum and the Cabs should trade him...
That is unfair. My advice was to the Cavs is if they don't believe he is a generational talent, deal him if somebody overpays.. Mobley is all projection. Garland is limited. All those players did it in 75+ games. Garland only plays 60-65 games a season.

Ingram isn't worth Allen. WS/48 is .80, struggles to average over .100.

@Marcus how we doing? Actually missed the entire first half and entirety of the game thread so missed all the crucial LeVert updates.

Edit: I can’t even remember if it was Marcus or someone else who threatened me with a good time of mentions every LeVert missed shot or dribbling exhibition so apologies if I’m @ the wrong person.

Also, this is just one game. It’s awesome to see the good trends continue( especially in the road!) but it’s not a referendum on whether the trade deadline decisions were correct, how the playoffs will play out, and what the long term ceiling is.

It’s fun to be a fan and enjoy the ride in the moment!
No complaints here tonight, other than the officiating! Didn’t seem right to tag you in something that was outside the Cavs’ control…

Guess we’ll have to wait for tonight against Chicago :chuckle:

That 73-point first half was the best I've seen the Cavs execute the offense all year, and they did it with Rubio out and Garland playing only a few minutes due to foul trouble. It's the most points ANY team has scored against the Pelicans in the first half this year. The Cavs came out and punched them in the mouth, building a 17-point halftime lead.

With DG in foul trouble LeVert had an excellent game with a line of 13/6/9, 2 steals, and a +9. With Rubio out and Garland limited to 23 minutes Caris really stepped up when we needed him. I think he appreciates not being traded.

Mobley was awesome on the glass with 13 rebounds. I know he had 28 points but at least half of those came on lobs where he was alone at the rim. Allen had another great game against the Pelis with a line of 20/11/4 and many contested shots that forced a miss. He kicked Vala's butt (7 points, 7 rebounds, -24 in 24 minutes).

The entire Cavs' starting lineup was +11 to +18. The defense was solid, holding the Pelis to 6 points below their season average, and that was with the Pelis scoring 16 points in the last four minutes of garbage time. Ingram was amazing but the Cavs handled the rest of them pretty well.

Offensively the Cavs had 101 points after three quarters. This may have been the first time they hit triple figures in three quarters and what was really impressive is they did it on the road against a quality team. This wasn't Houston or Detroit - the Pelicans rank 16th in scoring defense.

Donovan Mitchell appears to be fully recovered from the groin problem as he scored 30 points and only 9 were on 3's. The mid-range jumper and the floater were there.

Just an outstanding game on both ends of the floor as the Cavs were up by 23 points with four minutes to go when they went into the stall followed by garbage time. The Pelicans got some late points to make the score respectable, but this was a 20-point win on the road against a team that had won three straight at home and is over .500. Really impressive. You can see it coming together.

Cavs were 35-21 last year and then lost 6 of its next 7 around the all star break.

5 games up on last years team in loss column 36-27 vs 36-22. Obviously last years team continued to plunge to get just 44 wins After the very strong start.

This team is deeper and hopefully stays healthy (dealt with fair string of injuries already compared to last year) which should lead to an even stronger finish (50+ wins would be nice).

Defensively we were pretty solid against a long lineup. But offensive it looked like the cavs were making that one more pass, that murders the rotation.a lot of action big to big inside to go from contested layup to freehanded dunk.

Also seeing Mobley score in traffic, knocking down a guy, is pretty scary , if you are playing Cleveland next. He has gotten stronger, and still retains that pogo level pop above the rim.

Team clearly feeling thier oats. Will be interesting how they react when they get smacked in the mouth at some point..
