Gee Wiz...what's Alonzo's ceiling???

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I too have been very happy with Alonzo's development from last year to where he is now this year. You have to give Alonzo a lot of credit for all of his hard work. I'm also happy with how he is developing under Byron. It makes me very optimistic for other young players will pull in. You have to give the Cavs FO some credit for the approach they are taking by bringing in guys that are high character, high work ethic. This approach combined with Scott's coaching style is one of the things that has me the most hopeful moving forward.

The question I have is what would you pay to lock up Gee in Cleveland? Would you do so in the first place? I believe he is a restricted free agent this offseason. We are going to have the cap space to keep him, the question is, what is he worth?

Yes, he is a restricted free agent this off-season. Right now he makes around $900K, and the qualifying offer would be around $1.1M. I doubt the Cavs will let him get away.

Unfortunately, I don't think this is true of Samardo. Hopefully, since we won't have a lockout this summer, Gee's motivation to improve will inspire Samardo to lose some weight, add muscle, and work on his post moves.

If Grant/Scott can turn two D-League guys into important parts of our long-term 10 man rotation, that's going to really help move the rebuild along.

I'm thinking the Lakers would love to get Gee back with Hollywood Sessions

He starting to remind me of a young Gerald Wallace.. It took Wallace four years in the league to average over 10 ppg due to mostly injuries and lack of minutes. But really improved through playing and growing into the game and their potential

I agree with you and I hope the Cavs keep him. I'm just posing the question of what people think he is worth. I'd do something similar to the deal Sessions signed with Minnesota - a four year, approximately $16M deal.

This idea over whether or not to offer him a contract reminds me of my first year in fantasy sports. Some Veteran in the league told me "if you drop that guy will someone pick him up right away"? I think that situation applies to Gee. If we fail to offer him some type of deal, there will be plenty of teams looking for his service.

Edit: As for a contract, I would have to look at some #'s. But I'm lazy right now. :)

The Cavs have Samardo under contract for another season, so they don't have to make any decisions right way--

p.s. Love Gee's play lately. He's looking like he's legit and still getting better.

Gee got some love from Shaq & the TNT crew

#6 dunk from this week or this half of the season? Not sure. You heard in the background "oohh I didn't see that one" , Blake Griffin-ish"

fuck espn

Hearing that representatives for Alonzo Gee will ask NBA if it has any interest including the #Cavs swingman in All Star Game dunk contest.

He can do a progression, a timeline of some sort of dunks. Start by jumping over someone dressed like Judas, then 2nd round jump over someone dressed as Benedict Arnold, then in the last round jump over someone in a #6 Heat Jersey.

:chuckles:

He looked like a scorer tonight. Man, he looked good on some of those moves, especially the one where he ran around Howard and dunked it in sneaky. I really like Alonzo, and I have said his ballhandling needs work. I definitely think he needs more, but he has definitely improved in this area.

His shot has been pretty good too. He squares to the basket very quickly. I think he could develop a very good shot. I love how he lulled them to sleep driving and then just stepped into his shot towards the end.

He was a leader tonight, trying to take the scoring load on himself. I'd like him to do that and be more aggressive. His main defender Turkolu did seem to be saving his energy for offense. Screw that guy.
