Gee Wiz...what's Alonzo's ceiling???

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
At least 3 million a year for G33. See what I did there? LOL.

he is not going to get overpaid like Wes Matthews did

I think somewhere between Myoung's low estimate and the MLE is accurate

I think a good comparison is Kellena Azubuike. He came up from the DLeague and put up the following before signing a 3 year $9 million contract.

Year Team GP GS MPG FG% 3P% FT% RPG APG SPG BPG PPG
2006–07 Golden State 41 9 16.3 .445 .430 .782 2.3 .7 .5 .2 7.1
2007–08 Golden State 81 17 21.4 .445 .364 .717 4.0 .9 .6 .4 8.5

Just one recent contract to go off of: We signed Jamario Moon to a 3 year, 8.9 million dollar deal. He was 29 years old coming off a season of 7.2 ppg and 4.6 rpg.

Gee is 24 years old and averaging 10.6 ppg and 4.3 rpg while playing good to great defense. His numbers have improved since becoming a starter as well and there is still time for him to improve his game since he is only 24.

IF (that is a big if) he keeps playing like this for the remainder of the season, he is worth more than 3 million a year IMO. I'd give him 5 a year without hesitating. We won't be able to get a better player than him in free agency for less than 5 mil a season.

Boobie is making 4.4 million this year and a team option for 4.7 next year

somewhere between that and the MLE

I think they may be able to get him on a Boobie level contract. 4 or so a year. May depend on what his agent asks for. He is pretty valuable already just with the job he does on high scoring wings. His offense will likely continue to improve as he gains experience and learns how to execute in the NBA. Good investment unless someone offers him a ridiculous amount.

Its gonna be at least MLE...and he deserves it.

As long as we do a 3 year deal, I'm confortable with w MLE level contract or even a little more.

What Gee has done is within the concept of winning basketball, smart basketball, and team play. He has an ideal body for a SF, it plus level athletic, has a good head on his shoulders, a high work ethic, etc. Everything he already does well should fit into and contribute to high level winning basketball. Even though we are a losing team now, the way he plays and the stats he's putting up of late are not the kind of empty stats that you sometimes see from guys on bad teams.

I think MYoung is just about on target with a contract that is 3 years guaranteed, $3.5 Mil per year.

Gee is a restricted free agent with a low qualifying offer. If the Cavs offer more than that, they would be bidding against themselves. If some team does bid more, the Cavs can just match the offersheet. I really don't see any team outbidding the Cavs though.

I could also see the Cavs trying to get a non-guaranteed 4th year on that deal. The 4th year would be when Kyrie and Tristan are scheduled to become RFAs. Probably a good idea to keep the number of other expiring contracts and the guaranteed dollars low for that year.

Overpaying itself is (often) not good but overpaying for Alonzo Gee of all players is a very bad road to go down.

Maybe they could give him the MLE and follow it up with an $8M/yr offer to BJ Mullens.
