Gee Wiz...what's Alonzo's ceiling???

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Overpaying itself is (often) not good but overpaying for Alonzo Gee of all players is a very bad road to go down.

Maybe they could give him the MLE and follow it up with an $8M/yr offer to BJ Mullens.

2/10 for trolling

I will give you a 4/10 for effort

With sessions gone Gee will really have to expand his game and carry a load, he is now the cavs 2nd best playmaker

Untrue. Byron Scott is still a pretty good playmaker. He just doesn't play against other people anymore.

Been a little disappointed in Gee's defense of late. He needs to step it up. I'm with MYoung on this. He should make less than Boobie or close to it at this point in his career. He's not worth MLE money by any means. Way overrated by us as he still only has one offensive move.

I'm starting to like him, but let's not drool all over his nuts just yet

Well then. We are all eagerly awaiting your approval of this, QD. :chuckles:

I have no problems offering Gee the MLE. He is 24, and he has shown a willingness to improve his game. Let us not forget that Gee was a PF in college, so his perimeter skills will likely take another year or two to develop before Gee reaches his ceiling.

Good luck finding a guy as good and young as Gee that makes that kind of money (unless they are on a rookie contract).

Big chunk of the lockout was about not overpaying guys like Alonzo Gee. Even if he continues to play well as a starter he will have less than a year of a track record.

Why should the Cavs pay him more than guys like CJ Miles, Dorrell Wright, Tony Allen, Corey Brewer, etc?

It's not like the Cavs wouldnt draft for his position. It's very likely they will

Gee will probably get a relatively cheap deal, over 4 or 5 years. Might be able to sweeten it with a player option (if these still exist in the new CBA)

I always felt that Tony Allen's contract was pretty decent. A little over 3 million a year for a premier perimeter defender in his prime seems like a good deal for both sides.

Yes, but GMs always end up having to pay more money for POTENTIAL.

He's proven that he has the potential to be a 5th, 6th man in this league, and maybe even better than that. I'm not saying that we overpay for him, but I bet we are going to have to do a little better than 3 million per year.

Great points. As Cavs fans, it's easy to watch Gee every game, hear his story, see his dunks, and think he's a unique find. I find myself hoping he's a long term piece of the puzzle for this team's future, often thinking that if Stevenson's scrubby ass can start for a champion, Gee can definitely be a major piece.

Then I realize that the Stevensons and Keith Bogans and Thabo Sefoloshas of this league actually undermine my own point rather than prove it; get the essential pieces around -- the stars, the scoring, the culture and coach -- and fill in the rest with mostly interchangeable parts like these guys.

As much as I love watching Gee, if he were to bolt for a fairly lucrative deal, his next team might end up with buyer's remorse and we might end up with somebody like Jeff Taylor, a younger and cheaper version of the same guy.

Gee is going to get more than 3 million, I agree. My comment was more about Tony Allen's contract being decent versus using it as a baseline for Gee's contract. As long as we don't wind up with a Jared Jeffries situation, then I'm okay with resigning Gee for slightly less than the MLE
