Recently, Coach Brown is just showing that he can flat out coach. Against the Pacers, he used Z very efficiently even drawing up a spectacular play to get the ball in his hands, recognizing that is was key.

Against the Suns, he decided to not use Z in the last 20 minutes. That is pretty insightful. Instead he put in Varejao, who matched the Suns energy and was just what the doctor ordered for this game.

He had patience with Jones, Newble and Jackson playing time at the 2, but suprisingly decided to start Sasha. It was perfect.

He is active on the sidelines, constantly talking to the guys on the floor and recognizing things. He has passion, patience and knows what does wrong some nights and corrects himself. These are things that Silas never had.

It is just refreshing to see competence. :)

i like him and see him as a main stay in cleveland for years to come.....he is a rookie and we all need to have patience with him.....he has me shaking my head sometimes but then other times like today when he left AV in i am thinking man this guy knows his stuff.....his defensive scheme is finally setting in though which is nice

Oh yeah, and that defense that forced Nash to be a scorer rather than a playmaker...beautiful! He was forced to take hard shots down the stretch and you could tell his rythme was thrown way off.

For his first year, Mike Brown has been pretty phenominal.

I like Mike Brown a lot. However, we didn't play defense in the first half of the game today and got lucky enough to get away with it. Mike needs to find a way to get the defensive energy in the first half that he gets out of the final few minutes or we're gonna take some more lumps.

The results in doing this was...Well let the number speak for themselves.

Past 5 games

5-0 W-l
9.6ppg
2.6RPG
.5APG
1.0SPG
47%-FG%
44%-3pt%
64%-FT%
33.2MPG

Not very consistant, but having another guy that can open up the floor and slash to the hoop with a 47% fg% and scoring near 10ppg is impressive.

Brown found a way to win again, he's gonna be a great coach.

This guy has even got Damon Jones playing some game winning D.

Seriously though, the defense has looked pretty good lately. Im especially impressed with the mid-game adjustments that seem to be working out. Also, the zones he occasionally goes to seem to be executed well, and the defense is only improving.

Some weaknesses so far are at the end of games. Hes gotta get some better draw up plays and such, maybe start focusing a bit on executing an offense a bit since the D is looking better.

Its all an illusion.

Well, as long as his smoke and mirrors gets us wins, couldn't care less :D

When we're winning, he's a genius. When we're losing, he's an idiot.

Such is the cycle for coaches in professional sports. Receive too much credit for good, too much blame for bad.

I agree that giving Sasha playing time was the only thing left. I'm glad that it worked.

Once Mike Brown gets these guys playing in the first half, like they do in second halves, I'll be impressed and we will be that much better.

Yeah, that's about right Pilot. The defensive principles are starting to gel some, but it'll be a while before they're instinct. Lebron saved us today, plain and simple.

I was totally against bringing in a rookie coach, and for good reason. Luckily his coaching staff includes Hank Egan, who is definitely not a rookie, and he kept Kenny Natt around for some continuity. Browny is a good communicator and that's very important.

He's doing a decent job but he still hasn't gotten around to drawing up that inbounds play yet. We couldn't inbound the ball at least twice today, very little movement off the ball.

I have to give Mike Brown props for making us look like a team that actually belonged on national TV though. Last year that was definitely not the case.

he is better than Brendan Malone and Paul Silas....hes not quite Phil Jackson but he is doing ok

I was calling for Anderson about 5 minutes before he put him in but credit should be given to Brown for making the right sub and sticking with it.

He also looks like has made the right decision in going with Sasha. I think both Sasha and Anderson were outstanding against the Suns

I never considered him a genius or an idiot at any point in the season, he is just coaching well now that his feet are wet.

I never said you did. I was merely poiting out how quickly coaches can fall in and out of favor as the season goes on.

Take the Knicks for example. As soon as they won a couple in a row, Larry Brown is a genius and the Knicks are going to the playoffs. When they came back to reality it was back to "Larry and Stephon don't get along, Larry wants to trade everybody, etc;" Such is the nature of coaching in pro sports.

Though I do think that overall Mike Brown has gotten the job done.

He's been coaching well all season, it's just taken a while for the players to adopt his system - now that they have, watch out. That's why I wasn't even concerned with our 6 game losing streak - you could see we were on the verge of breaking out.
