Gordon suspension reduced to 10, 12 if convicted of DWI

Lee I don't disagree with anything you've said really, except the fact that the fine is just. I don't agree and I think it's a joke.

A joke that is being treated as such when prominent members of the NFL media are joking that the biggest penalty for Irsay is his Twitter ban. Roger Goodell had an opportunity to make Irsay really think about future problems, but he stood behind the rules (that he can change, like the NBA did) rather than send a message that owners can't run around with cash and oxycotton in a briefcase while hammered in your car. White collar treatment. I just doubt that anyone of us would think twice about a fine of $13. I mean, parking tickets are $25 and many people get tons of them over and over.

And the opportunity to showcase their talent on a national stage such a professional sports team is a privilege and to be allotted something such as a high money contract is 100% a privilege. If you continually break contract by doing so simple as smoking weed full well knowing the consequences you lose that PRIVILEGE. I don't care how much money the team makes off of the players, if it wasn't for the teams these guys would be at the local rec doing shit with their lives.

The contract and exposure are things that they've earned from exceptional talent. Those with less talent simply don't get those lucrative contracts. I see no reason why non-performance enhancing infractions can't be handled by the teams themselves. If a team is comfortable being associated with a casual drug user / domestic abuser / whatever, that should be up to the team. I suspect most of the NFL franchises wouldn't revoke Josh Gordon's PRIVILEGE to play receiver at a pro-bowl level for them over his past and current behavior.

I disagree with this. I think that penalties should be set at an NFL level rather than a team level. Any other way opens the door to favoritism or star treatment.

The problem isn't that players are being punished for using banned substances or breaking the law, it's that the punishments themselves are ridiculous and don't necessarily fit the crime. Smoking marijuana should not be equivalent to using actual performance-enhancing drugs, just like the punishment for that shouldn't be more severe than knocking out your fiance and dragging her unconscious body across a hotel hallway.

He also isn't listed on the Browns' depth chart. A lot of speculation. I wouldn't be surprised to see him seek an injunction, though. Obviously, this isn't official (see Dion Lewis or Caylin Hauptmann).

C'mon Josh, get some liberal judge to drag this thing out until the NFL/NFLPA changes the rules. This is VERY important to the team, and also my fantasy team. Drafted Rd.14 159 overall.

What's the big deal if he leaves his football stuff in his locker, suspension or no? It's not like he's going to need it.

Part of a potential lawsuit would include a filing for a stop to the impending suspension and allow him to play.

As has already been discussed...

It might (probably actually) not mean anything, but you would think it would have been cleared by now

I feel also that the Browns would clear out his helmet/pads, etc...if they knew 100% there is no chance he is coming back. They are probably just waiting to see what the decision is.

Means nothing as of now until more details come out.

So could he delay the suspension long enough for the NFL and NFLPA to redo the drug policy and possible be reinstated this season? I have no idea if they would allow that to happen though.

They would if Gordon was a Steeler or a Raven or a Patriot or a Cowboy.

This thread is really getting to the point of "worst thread on the Browns board."

Tall task with the Manziel thread still humming, but it's getting there.
