Grantland on the Cavs (2 new pieces on K-Love)

Good enough for a max contract though?
A 75% LeBron is still better than most of the league and the added revenue he generates for the Cavs and the commercials showing Cleveland in a positive light makes that an easy decision. BTW, I have already had a couple very positive comments on the Cleveland Nike commercial here in Portland.

It was a joke about a comment from the game threads, no one seriously thinks LeBron isn't worth a max contract.

LeBron has always been someone that doesn't look overly explosive when he's thinking a lot and trying to figure things out. Think back to the Finals in '07, '11, and to an extent, '14. While he lacked overall aggression at times during those series, it's also hard to think back and remember him blowing past defenders and dunking the ball a whole lot. Perhaps the most perplexing part of his play in those series was in fact the idea that he seemed to be unable to get to the rim as easily as he generally seemed able to, and also had trouble getting shots off over people in the paint.

To me, the same thing is happening now and illustrates the idea that LeBron's explosiveness is often a function of his confidence during a basketball game. Because there are currently so many moving parts and so many unknowns surrounding this team, LeBron definitely hasn't fully settled in and I think that has more to do with his "diminished athleticism" than anything else. This is something that's a bit hard to grasp for folks that haven't watched him play since the beginning, but I really do believe that it holds true. When we start to figure things out, I think LeBron will start getting to the rim easier and start trying to jump over guys again.

The Denver game was the Lebron I'm use to seeing he was everywhere on the court pushing the ball he went to the basket in the 4th and took contact every time and finished. He is working his way back into game shape and getting his legs underneath him and his explosiveness will come back with above the rim.

They're keeping that Lebron love pick and roll under wraps. When they finally ran it against Denver, Lebron got to the rim frighteningly easily. That could be deadlier then Stockton to Malone.

If they run that all the time I think the LeBron declining talk would go away quickly. Feeling like they want to work on other things right now and have less film for other teams to scout with

He showed a lot of strength and energy in that Denver game -- he finished through contact a lot better than in the previous games. But he was still doing those crafty layups and not elevating, still a very below the rim game. He should 70 percent or so from up close. We'll see how things develop. Definitely was an encouraging game though.

I hope you're right, it's been mystifying why that p&r hasn't showed up more. Not sure I see the point in 'keeping it under wraps', you've got to develop their chemistry with each other over the course of the season. And they should be keying other elements of the offense off that too.

All this speculation. Saving plays and energy 5 games into the season, psychological warfare on his teammates? C'mon, he's hurt.

He's recovering IMO Since he looks better from game to game. Showing progress

I'm sure his back is bothering him some. But I think the main issue is he is still getting into game shape. He barely played preseason didn't he sit out 2 games? Then only played like 20 minutes a game and even in those games he played at 1/3 the speed he usually does.

He would deny it I'm sure, but not playing serious minutes in preseason and taking off practices forced him to get into game shape during the season.

His jumper and FT stroke have improved so much since he was last year, but he's taken a lot of below-the-rim awkward shots near the rim. In addition, a lot of these "0-3 feet" shots in the past were fast break dunks and not awkward shots at the rim. If he was making these shots at the rim, nobody would be mentioning anything.

Agreed too much jetting around the world and not playing. He does not appear in shape to me. Not clear what to make out of the weight loss. I hope it is not what incarcerated bob keeps repeating that he is off the roids.

If he was on roids for 10-15 years the benefits he had wouldn't leave him all of a sudden, steroids effects stay with your body for at least 2 years

Dont know about that. Maybe you meant 2 months.

Rodriguez has won two MVPs since he stopped juicing. Can athletes keep the gains in muscle mass without continuing steroids?
The muscles begin to come down, though there’s still a significantly greater difference in size and strength even eight weeks after you’ve taken the drugs. Again, it all depends on how much you’ve taken and how hard you train. But can you keep gains three years later? No.
