Grantland on the Cavs (2 new pieces on K-Love)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lebron doesn't lose weight if the back were 100%. Lebron may be "dying" but it is the player Lebron James. Hopefully he can find a new game that will click into James v2.

2013-14 was the end of a era for Lebron. It was the last we saw of him in his athletic prime. Now much like MJ after 1993, he must reinvent to stay on top.

This is not a "sky is falling" observation, I just simply have noticed since game 1 that Lebron doesn't seem to be out muscling opponents like I am used to seeing. This could most certainly be an issue with his back as I know how debilitating that can be but I just wonder if the weight loss has a role. Obviously a hard, if not impossible question to answer but he doesn't seem as overpowering.

I'm starting to really dislike this entire board at the moment.

Irrationality is at a 10. People are tripping over themselves to hit the panic button. Pegging LeBron as past his prime?! He's 29!!! Best player in the world!!!

You're all going to miss the cue to celebrate when this team finally hits its stride.

I feel like I'm in the minority of the fans here who actually remember the harsh reality that was forecast several weeks ago - this team would start slow, finish strong.

Marathon, people. Marathon.

I think there are a number of camps. I'm in the Lebron obviously doesn't look right camp.

I'm not panicked about silly w and l's at this point. If Lebron looked right, they could start 1-10 and it wouldn't concern me. If he gets a shot in low- back and looks like himself tonight, no worries at all. But weight loss doesn't explain problems jumping and dunking. It doesn't explain visibly being slower. Just the opposite, those things should be better. Banging down low would be affected.

If Lebron is Lebron, we have zero worries. I don't see anyone panicking. I see people stating the obvious that Lebron doesn't look himself, and those in denial acting like peope are panicking and wanting to believe he's the same guy who played in the finals 4 months ago.

He's not, and I don't know why? That's all. I don't think for a minute its age. You don't get old in 4 months. It's either diet-related, some type of nutritional deficiency that can happen after long low carb period, or injury related as to his play. Bad passes and losses are easily explained by chemistry issues and not knowing where guys are going to be. Running and jumping arent.

I look forward to him looking himself. Show me an athletic game, win or lose, and it won't be mentioned again by 90% here and we can focus on the x and o problems.

That it's going to be a marathon in regards to team building, learning roles, and becoming championship caliber is common sense. It's an entirely different subject than observing Lebron isn't right.

I'm not worried yet either but I keep thinking of how Roy Jones was never the same after he moved up to heavyweight then loss the weight to go back down to light heavyweight. I'm sure it's just my imagination but I swear he has gotten his shot blocked more in these 4 games then he did in his prior stint combined.

What if LBJ only came back because he is dying and wanted to make things right before passing on? Lou Gehrig declined the same way.
WTF ? Morbid post bro

I actually thought LeBron looked like his old self last night. He was flying around the court and driving to the rim with more purpose.

Maybe he was just rope-a-doping us all.

If you look at the way LeBron's playing right now, you can see that he's merely trying to manipulate these younger guys into playing the way that they need to play to win. If he's willing to sacrifice games early in the season for the betterment of the team long-term, I don't think it's unrealistic to think that he's also trying to save his body for the big push at the end of the season and into the playoffs. I don't think there's any reason to be concerned. This team could phone it in and get the second seed in the Eastern conference for the playoffs. If they push hard the last few weeks of the season, I think it's pretty realistic to expect a number one seed and a healthy a team that is ready to make a title push.

All of the premature doom and gloom about the Cavs but we played 4 out of 5 games on the road including tough teams like Chicago and Portland. Considering every one is trying to figure out their role on the team. I don't think a 2-3 record during that stretch is so bad. When we get back home against weak ECF teams it is going to be a whole lot easier.

One this team gets a good 4-5 game win streak under their belt things will start to gel with this team.

Agree about Lebron looking different. And not in a good way. Since somewhere during last year's finals.

Spurs are also 2-3. I doubt they are panicking.
