Hidden Restaurant Gems: Cleveland's Best Eats

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Regarding Mama Santa's...I just don't get it. I went to CWRU, so I've been there enough times. I just think if it were located anywhere but Little Italy, it wouldn't get any attention at all. The pizza was just ok.

I grew up in Parma and swear by Antonio's. I haven't had any of their delivery-only satellites, but their home base at the end of the Parmatown Mall strip makes great pizza with some outstanding sausage and nice crispy crusts.

I want to add onto the hype behind Bangkok Thai. After driving by it maybe thousands of times previously, I finally tried it about a year ago and it is now an almost weekly stop for me. Its family owned, with good quality, and reasonably priced. Go there on a Friday/Sat night for dinner and its absolutely packed. Pretty amazing for having such an inconspicuous facade. Also, be careful when you ask for extra spicy. This place won't screw around.

As far as Thai, etc goes, Mekong River in Cleveland Heights is excellent too, although it has more of a Vietnamese flair to it.

Ditto on Lee Wah's dim sum too. Its an experience that is hard to find in Cleveland and is top quality too, and thats coming from someone who has experienced dim sum in several different Chinatowns across the US and beyond.

Personally, I find B-Spot somewhatoverrated. I don't think the burgers are big enough for the price, especially coming with no fries. Great beer selection and milkshakes though (especially the spiked ones).

I want some god damn Barberton Chicken. I hate you all right now.

Fahrenheit in Tremont is great. It's an uncle Rizzo staple and a lot of browns players go there.

If you're heading to the burbs:
Hot Dog Heaven Amherst
Thai House in Elyria is great for Pad Thai.
Nuevo Acapulco North Olmsted
The Strip in Avon if you want good steak.

I have had their satellite sites and they're pretty similar to the real deal.

I'm with you-just ate there on Friday night. Their carry-out locations are nothing like the original restaurant at Parmatown. Best pizza!

I went to Wasabi just off of Chagrin Blvd. on Friday night. It was the most obnoxious eating experience I've ever had. And that isn't even the part where my girlfriend turned down getting Sake sprayed into her mouth only to have the chef squirt her nice shirt instead... I'm all for a good time and I'm usually the comic relief who will catch the shrimp when the dude tosses it and will do a sake bomb if given one...

I must say, though, that we couldn't hear ourselves speak through the entire dinner. There was a relatively large table of folks celebrating a birthday, which is quite normal there. These people were shouting about how they're spending the same money and can hoot and holler as much as they want. They had kids at the table and were screaming "fuck this, fuck that, fuck, fuck" with the entire restaurant full. They were hitting on peoples' wives and dates as they walked out of the restaurant past the table.

Total management fail; I'll never go there again.

Agreed. Wasabi is too loud, too packed, and the food is just average, if you ask me. I went a couple of years ago, for a friends birthday. They atmosphere, as soon as you walk in seems slightly hostile. But that could be the "cliental", that seem to frequent that place.

Hate the sake shots. I said I didn't want it, and the guy proceeded to "shot" the sake stream, my way. When I waved that it was enough, he still kept going. I had filet mignon, and it was alright. I just remember that I couldn't wait to get out of there. Tried to have a good time, but it was a miss. ANd I never plan on going back there.

Mama Santa's is good, but the best pizza is the house special at Angelo's in Lakewood.

I have to agree, but im going to through out Dina's for second. Its reasonable, tasty, and the specialty pizzas are all great. I have had angelos many many times, but it never impresses me. I give them the nod for plain pizzas, but specialties goes to Aneglos, and Dinas.

If your going to Dina's you have to try something different. Their regular pizzas are ok, but their Chicken BLT pizza is pheominal. Same for Angelo's, I would kill a small animal for their Acapulco Chicken pizza with banana peppers and red onions added.

B-Spot is great if you get something different. I dont understand the hate. If you go there and get a cheeseburger and expect a relgious experience GTFO. The draw for many is the different burgers offered.

Melt just go mid meal and you will be seated immediatly. I must say the Dude Abides (Italian metballs, parmesan cheese, romano chease, mozzarella sticks, and marinara sauce) may be my favorite sandwich in town.

I have grown fond of Ohio City Burrito. Packed wit flavor, great portion, and very reasonable.

Mongolian BBQ on coventry is a chain, but pretty tasty. Hard to leave hungry.

Molly McGees & Crystal Keg are two of my favorite wing places. Sauces are pretty good, their cheap per wing, and they are pretty large. Molly McGees has excellent gameday specials along with 30 cent wings.

I enjoy the Steak @ Red. Its pricey, but they are good quality and very well seasoned.

For dessert: I still love ice cream from Malleys on W 117. Get a sundae and throw some pretzels on it. Everything is homemade/ handmade.

For gyros....if you have to ask your not worthy.

I do some work for the owner/chef at Red. Great guy. He has a bunch of smokers set up in the back parking lot and it's a big reason he gets such good flavor on his steak.

Compola's Tasty Pizza in Lyndhurst. This spot's been around forever and with good reason. I'll warn you though, if your not looking for a greasy meatza (pepperoni, sausage, double cheese with grease) then you're not going to dig this place. If that's your forte check them out http://www.compolastastypizza.com/

I love Tasty's Pizza! I grew up in South Euclid and now I live in Aurora but my brother and sister both live in Lyndhurst so I still go there every once in awhile.
