Well with Marshall, Ilgauskas, Hughes and Dale Davis, I think we would have sent the right message to LeBron. Really I dont think it is much a down grade from Jones to a House or Pargo.

Its easy to make this statement at least about House at this point, but at the time House, Pargo and Blake were all gambles.

I also think we need to upgrade backup center and point, but these things do not require we get rid of Jones. Pargo and Blake are good examples of players deep on the bench that are obtainable with lesser trade meat (Luke, Sasha, Ira for example). Any road Damon will always be useful off the bench, because there are always situations when you want a dead eye Tre specialist in the game.

I also think we could get a decent back up center AND a point for Gooden and one of the three above. For example a Blount Banks combination for Gooden/Newble. I think there are three or four such trades out there that could be done before the Feb deadline, that I would be in favor of if we collapse on the road this month. If we play well on the road, I don't think we will see a significant trade.

pargo is a much better shooter than jones. they are both about the same as spot up shooters, but pargo is better at creating his own shot.

jones is a slightly better defender than pargo, who is prone to foul and does not do well in help situations.

pargo is a better ball ball handler and is better at bringing the ball up under pressure. jones is a better passer than pargo. pargo is one of the worst passing nba players 6'1" and under.

jones is a journeyman who is easily replaced. his four year contract is like an interst only home mortgage. love it in year one only to despise it toward the end of the contract.

jones will help us win regular season games. davis would have helped us win playoff games. jump shots don't win in the playoffs.

Jones is a much better player than either Pargo or House. I did agree with the possibility of signing either Pargo or House last summer when it appeared the Cavs would have to settle for lesser stopgap players.
Pargo has done nothing with the Bulls this year. He's only been a guy that has a rare good game in his career so far. I can't see any way he'd have any type of real impact with the Cavs this season.
House is more of an undersized SG. I also doubt he'd duplicate the success he's had with Phoenix this year if he was with the Cavs. The Suns and coach D'Antoni's system fit him well. He also has a great PG in Nash. House would have been an ok 1 year fill in that I could have lived with.

A name I brought up last summer who might have been a better player and who didn't cost much was Tyronn Lue. He's more of a legitimate PG and can hit the outside shot although he doesn't have Jones 3 point ability.

I really don't have a problem with Jones. I think any supposed attitude problem has been blown out of proportion. Jones hasn't been a major problem with Cavs or caused any lingering situations.
Jones isn't a perfect player but he does provide a major 3 point and perimeter threat that the Cavs still badly need.
Jones contract isn't outrageous either. It wouldn't prevent him from being traded at any point during it. The worse contract on the Cavs that is likely untradeable is Snow's. Snow will be making $6, $6.7, and $7.3 million the next 3 seasons after this one. I can't see Snow's quickness or shooting being better when he's a 35 then 36 year old PG in the last year of his contract.

I understand your comments Narl. Some of my statements have been misinterpreted. I'm pretty much the only person here to voice concern over his attitude, so it really hasn't been blown out of proportion. I feel my concerns are relevant, however the majority believe not, so we move on. Damon contract per year wise is very acceptable, but I believe it is too long. If his play generates any we will get nothing but a bad contract in return. We all know Snow's contract is terrible, but this thread was a hypethetical about last summer when Snow was already contracted. Tyronn Lue definately to me is a better point guard to Damon Jones, but again personal opinion. In saying that I would not have signed Lue to anything more then a 2 year deal. My look on the point guard situation last summer was that after we missed out on the better point guards, we should not have given out multi year deals to mediocre players. Jones to me sits in that catergory, as he only has one strength which when off tenders him useless. This is why my preferense would have been to look at Davis who actually was sought after, as he filled a need left open. We can all say we needed a shooter, but we had brought in a proven shooter in Marshall, the improved long range game of James, and also the arrival of Luke Jackson who had been hyped up by many. Our long range game would not be world beating, but adequate.

I swear, if Jay Williams comes back and puts up 11-6 ? I'm going to be pissed.

I believe there is as much chance as that as Jayson Williams coming back and putting up those numbers.

^I see someone else still has Jayson Williams on their radar. I've been keeping an eye on him for the last couple years in the CBA. He could come back and produce as a backup C, easily, should he ever wish to face all the negative publicity about the shooting.

No regrets about signing Damon Jones except it being 4 years. Not the backup PG I was hoping for, but the shooting is a nice luxury to have. Roster stability is nice but 3 years would have been better.

"I'm pretty much the only person here to voice concern over his attitude,"

Karma, I may not have been as vocal about it, but I'm with you on this one. There is a reason DJ has been on 10 different teams....and not one of them ever asked him to return. He's the class clown - funny at first, then annoying, in the end has an overall negative impact on the class. Ferry & Brown mentioned multiple times in every interview that they wanted to build a team of selfless players, team first players, players with character. Damon is a character who can shoot....that's about it. To be World Champions I think we need to find someone who is a better fit.

Kypus-- I'm talkin about the PG Jay Williams...

I just have a feeling he is going to get his career in order, and will become the same defensive force and solid PG that he was at Duke...

Or be Dajuan Wagner....

Shooting rarely gets worse with age so he'll have some role even he does get a bit slower although he'll only be 32 when the contract is over which is still within most NBA players prime.

Lue would have been useful in guarding ultra quick PG's who torch everyone on the Cavs except maybe Wilks. However he is not a great outside shooter and we still needed a back court shooter to stretch the court. Marshall while a great shooter still plays the 4 and he is definitely OLD. Luke Jackson was coming back from a back injury and I still hate seeing Lebron shoot 3's even when he is making them as he is so muc hmore devastating the post.

Shooting even with Marshall signed was a much bigger need particularly when we signed Larry Hughes. Now you have two players who handle the ball a lot doing a lot of the PG duties but who aren't known for that outside shot.

This too me seemed and still does more important then getting another backup big who will take away minutes from 4 guys in Z, AV, Gooden, and Marshall who will demand PT from only 2 spots. Signing Davis would not make losing Gooden any easier as his production has been deteriorating and he would have been a short term fix anyways. If we decide to trade or not resign Gooden it will be because management expects AV to be able to play close to 30 minutes a night

Dale Davis + Eddie House would have been a better choice but i reckon DJ is a player that has alot to offer from his outside shooting .so i would taken alan henderson and dj.
but im a nuggets fan so dont really mind.......just hoping 2 land artest or harrington into the nuggets

As the originator of the House and Davis combo shortly after missing out on Jasikevicius, I'm just posting to gather my pats on the back. House was not one of my favorite players during the early part of his career, but he showed me a lot of improvement last year bouncing from the Bobs, the Bucks, and finally with the Kings. He found a way to be consistent when the systems around him were not, even in sproadic playing time.

Seriously, Damon wouldn't be so villified if he consistently helped in the other areas of his game that he displaid while with Sactown, Milwaukee, and Miami. His assist to turnover ratio ranged from 4.6 to 3.4 during that time, but now it has shrunk to around 1.7. I do hope that he finds his role in the offense and gets it together.

Well, I wouldn't have seen it as a downgrade, period. I'm sure if you, I, or anyone had the opportuity to pick Danny Ferry's mind and find out the one move he's made so far that he'd like back ....you'd find that clearly that move would have been the Damon Jones' deal. But, at a point I think we might be finding a resolution to that, via trade, around the all-star break. Just a hunch...
