Kypus-- I'm talkin about the PG Jay Williams...

I just have a feeling he is going to get his career in order, and will become the same defensive force and solid PG that he was at Duke...

Yeah, I know. I'm just not feeling it :chuckles: Karma was referring to Jayson "Shotgun" Williams in the post above.

This is off-topic so I"ll just say I was on the Earl Watson/Tyronn Lue bandwagons for their defense along with the 3-point shooting. They were better choices than Amon Jones then, and still are, but we simply got beat in the FA signing race. As far as Damon having a bad A/T ratio, yes I'd like to see more assists, but he is *the* sharpshooter here, that's his role. It's a great weapon to have, I can't complain.

Eddie House I wouldn't brag too much on (it WAS a good combo though, Keys), after all he's in Phoenix. Steve Nash simply makes everyone around him more efficient. If Damon Jones ended up in Phoenix, he would've taken Q's role and flourished, no question.

Jones is basically been doing what he was brought here to do so I can't complain too much about him. He'll never be a good defender but his PG skills need to be stepped up. He showed better PG ability on other teams although his role here has been to be more of a shooter and shooting threat while LeBron, Hughes or Snow play more of a PG role.
Let's not forget how poor of an outside shooting team the Cavs have been in recent seasons and how many G's they've had who provided little to no perimeter threat. Jones along with Marshall have provided a major upgrade in this area.

I also seem to remember Dale Davis choosing to go to Detroit rather than sign with the Cavs. Davis is at the end of his career and just chose to go to a guaranteed contender instead. It was basically the same situation as Sarunas choosing Indiana over the Cavs. There's not much you can do when a player just decides to sign with another team although I do wonder if Sarunas might be regretting his decision now.

Sorry fellas, but I have no problem complaining about Damon Jones.

I appreciate the comment that he would be blowing up offensively as a Sun, and totally agree. D'Antoni knows how to build an offense, and there is always a place for a shooter in his system. I think D'Antoni prioritizes gifted athletes who shoot and Jones doesn't appear as quick as he once was, but I bet he would average 18 per game with the Suns.

I don't know how much we offered Dale Davis, so I don't know if our offer was significant enough to make Davis really struggle with accepting a role as the 12th man in Detroit. Most NBA players prefer to play, so I think we could have made a good offer. I truly didn't think Damon Jones would leave Miami, so in some ways I am pleasantly surprised Damon Jones ended up on our roster. I actually liked him quite a bit for a few years before establishing himself as a household name in Miami.

But as a Cavalier, Damon is performing well below expectations in almost every capacity outside of shooting. One could argue he isn't getting as many assists because he plays more of an off-guard position, but that also means he shouldn't have nearly as many turnovers. While I don't think he has ever been a defensive stopper, he certainly defended the ball better in the past. I saw him play quite a few games when he was with the Bucks, and a handful of games with Miami. There is no question he has not yet reached his own potential as a Cavalier.

Jones is pretty much exactly what I expected. As is house over on the Suns. I, like many others, think that the Suns can polish a turd that can shoot into a gem. But deep down, its still a turd. To see this, and the impact of D'Antoni's offense, look no further than Quenton Richardson.
House would, IMO, not be as impactful on the Cavs as Jones has been. I would like to see Jones begin to lower the TO total, but with him usually being the third option as a ball handler in the half court, I doubt the assist total will go up much....unless he is inserted into the starting lineup.

As for his attitude, we will have to wait and see how that impacts the rest of the squad. He doesnt strike me as a problem player, just a rather outspoken one. We will see if it, like some have said, will wear on them.

Anyhow, our impressions on this arguement may well change as the season wears on. depending on how AV comes back, as well as how the other guys continue to adjust to the roster/coaching.

The Houston game just ended, and I just wanted to remind a few folks that I have no problem complaining about Damon Jones.

I guess the best way to cut down on turnovers is to jack up an ill-advised trey as soon as you touch the ball. And from the looks of things, the problem with Damon wasn't coming off the bench... the problem was Damon.
